This book was released on 1998 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES SYSTEMES D'INFORMATION (SI) PRESENTENT DEUX ASPECTS FORTEMENT DEPENDANTS : UN ASPECT STRUCTUREL (OU STATIQUE) ET UN ASPECT COMPORTEMENTAL (OU DYNAMIQUE). TRAITER DE FACON DISTINCTE CES DEUX ASPECTS REND PLUS DIFFICILE L'ANALYSE ET LA CONCEPTION DU SI, AINSI QUE SON EVOLUTION. MEME LES METHODES DE CONCEPTION ORIENTEES OBJET, QUI INTEGRENT PARTIELLEMENT LE COMPORTEMENT DU SYSTEME AU NIVEAU DE LA STRUCTURE (PAR LE BIAIS DE METHODES), NE PERMETTENT PAS DE PRENDRE EN COMPTE TOUTE LA DIMENSION DYNAMIQUE DU SI. NOUS CONSTATONS EN EFFET QUE LES REGLES DE GESTION (AU SENS LARGE, C'EST-A-DIRE CONTRAINTES D'INTEGRITE, REGLES DE DERIVATION ET REGLES ACTIVES) QUI EXPRIMENT, POUR BEAUCOUP D'ENTRE ELLES, LES ACTIVITES DU SI AINSI QUE LES CONDITIONS DE LEUR EXECUTION, SONT GENERALEMENT DIFFUSEES A TRAVERS DE NOMBREUX MODELES (D'UNE MEME METHODE). CECI APPAUVRIT LA SEMANTIQUE AU NIVEAU DE LA MODELISATION DU COMPORTEMENT. EN NOUS INSCRIVANT DANS LE CONTEXTE DE L'APPROCHE OBJET, NOUS PRECONISONS, DANS CE TRAVAIL, L'UTILISATION DU CONCEPT D'OBJET ACTIF COMME ENTITE DE MODELISATION, CAR IL CONSTITUE UN SUPPORT IDEAL POUR EXPRIMER NON SEULEMENT LES PARTIES DONNEES ET TRAITEMENTS D'UN OBJET, MAIS EGALEMENT L'ENSEMBLES DES REGLES DE GESTION QUI LE REGISSENT. LE CONCEPT D'OBJET ACTIF REND AINSI PLUS AISEE LA CONCEPTION DES SI EN INTEGRANT EFFICACEMENT LE MECANISME EVENEMENT-CONDITION-ACTION (ECA), MECANISME CLE DANS LES BASES DE DONNEES ACTIVES. L'INTRODUCTION DE CE CONCEPT NECESSITE DE NOUVEAUX MODELES POUR EXPRIMER ET TRADUIRE LES COMPORTEMENTS PASSIF ET ACTIF DU SI. NOUS PROPOSONS POUR CELA UNE EXTENSION AUX DIAGRAMMES D'ETATS. PAR AILLEURS, LE NOMBRE IMPORTANT DE REGLES PRODUITES AU NIVEAU CONCEPTUEL NECESSITE LEUR PARTITIONNEMENT. NOUS LE REALISONS PAR UNE STRATIFICATION DES REGLES. ENFIN, SUR LE PLAN DES OUTILS, NOUS AVONS ETE AMENE A AJOUTER DE NOUVELLES FONCTIONNALITES AUX ATELIERS DE GENIE LOGICIEL (AGL).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: CE MEMOIRE A POUR OBJECTIF DE DEFINIR UN STANDARD DE SYSTEME D'INFORMATION ADAPTABLE A TOUTE ORGANISATION ET PERMETTANT SURTOUT SA REUTILISATION: AU NIVEAU CONCEPTUEL POUR FACILITER LE DIALOGUE AVEC LES UTILISATEURS; AU NIVEAU ORGANISATIONNEL CAR LA REACTION A CERTAINS EVENEMENTS EST SIMILAIRE D'UNE ORGANISATION A L'AUTRE; AU NIVEAU TECHNIQUE PAR UNE REPRISE DES COMPOSANTS LOGICIELS. UN PANORAMA DES DIFFERENTES METHODES UTILISEES DANS LA CONCEPTION DES SYSTEMES D'INFORMATION EST PRESENTE. UNE APPROCHE ORIENTEE OBJET EST SUGGEREE; ELLE EST ASSOCIEE A UN STANDARD D'ORGANISATION POUR CONSTRUIRE LE SYSTEME D'INFORMATION S'APPUYANT SUR UNE APPLICATION-PILOTE: LA LOGISTIQUE COMMERCIALE. LE STANDARD EN INTEGRANT LES INVARIANTS CONSTITUE UN CADRE DE REFERENCE POUR LA CONCEPTION ET LA REALISATION. EN PERMETTANT LA RECUPERATION DE TOUT OU PARTIE D'ETUDES ET DE PROGRAMMES PREALABLEMENT CONSTITUES, LE STANDARD PERMET DE REDUIRE SIGNIFICATIVEMENT LES COUTS. Book excerpt: IL S'AGIT DE CONSTRUIRE UNE METHODOLOGIE ORIENTEE-OBJET SPECIFIQUE QUI S'ADAPTE MIEUX A LA MODELISATION DES SYSTEMES D'INFORMATION DE GESTION (S.I.G.). EN HERITANT DES METHODES D'ANALYSE ET DE CONCEPTION ORIENTEES-OBJET EXISTANTES, NOUS AVONS ELABORE UN MODELE DU SYSTEME D'ENTREPRISE A OBJET (MSEO). LE MSEO EST UNE BASE D'OBJETS DE REFERENCE QUI A POUR OBJECTIF DE RENFORCER LES METHODESORIENTEES-OBJET ET DE FACILITER LE DEVELOPPEMENT DES S.I.G. A OBJET. LA CONSTRUCTION DU MSEO FAIT APPEL, A LA FOIS, A LA MODELISATION SYSTEMIQUE, A L'APPROCHE ORIENTEE-OBJET ET A LA THEORIE DE LA GESTION DE L'ENTREPRISE. LE MSEO EST REPRESENTEE PAR UN ENSEMBLE D'OBJETS TYPIQUES ET PREDEFINIS CONCERNANT LA GESTION DE L'ENTREPRISE, QUI CONSTITUENT LES SOURCES D'OBJETS POTENTIELS POUR DES APPLICATIONS PARTICULIERES. EN SE GUIDANT PAR LE MSEO, L'IDENTIFICATION DES OBJETS DEVIENT PLUS FACILE. LES OBJETS DANS LES S.I.G. S'INSPIRENT DE CEUX DU MSEO, EN HERITANT DIRECTEMENT DES DEFINITIONS DES OBJETS REFERENCES. ET PUIS, EN SE BASANT SUR LE S.I.G. A OBJET CONSTRUIT, ON PEUT REALISER LES S.I.A.D. A OBJET, LES E.I.S. A OBJET ET LES OUTILS DE GESTION A OBJET (LES TABLEAUX DE BORD DE GESTION A OBJET). LE MSEO DONNE EGALEMENT UNE REFERENCE A L'ATELIER DE GENIE LOGICIEL POUR CONSTRUIRE UN ENVIRONNEMENT A OBJET QUI FACILITE AUSSI LA REALISATION DES S.I.G. A OBJET.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prize-winning book Organizational Intelligence focuses on the structural and ideological roots of intelligence (informational and analytical) failures in government, industry, and other institutions. It provides groundbreaking theory and structure to the analysis of decision-making processes and their breakdowns, as well as the interactions among experts and the organizations they inform. In this book, both "organization" and "intelligence" are taken to their larger meanings, not just focused on the military meaning of intelligence or on one set of institutions in society. Astute illustrations of intelligence failures abound from real-world cases, such as foreign policy (the Bay of Pigs, Soviet predictions in the Cuban missile crisis), military (civilian bombing of Germany, Pearl Harbor), financial (AmEx's investment in a vegetable oil guru), economics (the Council of Economic Advisers) and industrial production (Ford's Edsel), as well as many other telling arenas and disciplines. Economic, cultural, legal, and political contexts are considered, as well as the more known institutions of government and commerce. The new Classics of the Social Sciences edition from Quid Pro Books features a 2015 Foreword from Neil J. Smelser, University Professor Emeritus at Berkeley and former chair of its sociology department. He writes that the book remains "one of the classics in organizational studies, and—in ways I will indicate—it is still directly relevant to current and future problems of organizational life. ... What makes this book a classic? It is a disciplined, intelligent, and elegant model of applied social science. ... The text itself, richly documented empirically, yields an informed and balanced account of the decision-making process as this is shaped by the quality of information available (and unavailable) to and used (and not used) by organizational leaders." Reviews of the book at the time it was written similarly attest to the originality and breadth of its interdisciplinary analysis. Amitai Etzioni wrote in the American Sociological Review: "This book opens a whole new field — the macrosociology of knowledge. It is as different from the traditional sociology of knowledge as the study of interaction is from that of the structure of total societies." He adds, "The power of Wilensky's contribution is further magnified by his historical perspective. He studies structures and processes, but not in a vacuum." Gordon Craig wrote in The Reporter that the book's examples from organizations "show a similar tendency to believe what they want to believe, to become the victims of their own slogans and propaganda, and to resist or to silence warning voices that challenge their assumptions.... In his fascinating analysis of intelligence failures and their causes ... in the public and private sectors, Wilensky finds that the most disastrous miscalculations are those which have occurred in the field of governmental operations, especially foreign policy and national security." The book explains how such highly institutionalized actors are vulnerable to informational pathologies. The new digital edition features active Contents, a fully linked Index, linked notes, and proper ebook formatting. It is a modern, quality, and authorized re-presentation of a classic work in social science and organizational studies.

Book excerpt: The Production and Distribution of Knowledge in the United States marked the beginning of the study of our postindustrial information society. Austrian-born economist Fritz Machlup had focused his research on the patent system, but he came to realize that patents were simply one part of a much bigger "knowledge economy." He then expanded the scope of his work to evaluate everything from stationery and typewriters to advertising to presidential addresses--anything that involved the activity of telling anyone anything. The Production and Distribution of Knowledge in the United States then revealed the new and startling shape of the U.S. economy. Machlup's cool appraisal of the data showed that the knowledge industry accounted for nearly 29 percent of the U.S. gross national product, and that 43 percent of the civilian labor force consisted of knowledge transmitters or full-time knowledge receivers. Indeed, the proportion of the labor force involved in the knowledge economy increased from 11 to 32 percent between 1900 and 1959--a monumental shift. Beyond documenting this revolution, Machlup founded the wholly new field of information economics. The transformation to a knowledge economy has resonated throughout the rest of the century, especially with the rise of the Internet. As two recent observers noted, "Information goods--from movies and music to software code and stock quotes--have supplanted industrial goods as the key drivers of world markets." Continued study of this change and its effects is testament to Fritz Machlup's pioneering work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Buckland offers an examination of information systems that is comparative rather than narrowly technical in approach. With careful attention to different meanings of information, Buckland examines the nature of retrieval-based information systems such as archives, databases, libraries, and museums, and their relationships to their social context. The introductory material examines difficulties of definition and terminology in relation to information systems. There is a systematic overview of the concepts and processes involved in the provision and use of information systems. Buckland's attention to unusual examples, to how different aspects interact with each other, and to how information systems are influenced by their contents and their context yields interesting insights and conclusions which force reconsideration of common assumptions in information science. This volume, with its subject index and bibliography, provides for students and professionals a valuable and readable introduction to this rapidly expanding field.
