Book excerpt: Les oxydes thermoélectriques (TE) Ca4Mn3O10 et CaMnO3 ont été synthétisés par voie solide et différentes conditions de synthèse ont été optimisées afin d’obtenir des composés de grande pureté et de grande densité. La substitution sur le site du Calcium par un élément de valence différente (Terre Rare) ainsi que la variation des conditions de mise en forme de ces céramiques ont permis de diminuer significativement la résistivité électrique, facteur limitant les performances. Un facteur de puissance de l’ordre de 0.46 mW.K-2.m-1 a ainsi été obtenu sur le composé Ca0.95Sm0.05MnO3 mis en forme par pressage isostatique et fritté à 1450°C, une valeur particulièrement élevée pour cette famille de matériaux. Ce matériau a ensuite fait l’objet d’une intégration dans des dispositifs de conversion thermoélectrique, d’architectures conventionnelle et « unileg ». Parallèlement à ce travail, le développement d’un banc de caractérisations a permis d’évaluer les performances des différents modules réalisés. Des puissances en sortie d’environ 300 mW ont été atteintes pour des générateurs composés de 36 jambes et soumis à une différence de température de 400°C. Ces premiers résultats sur les générateurs à base de matériaux oxydes ont permis de mettre en évidence que les contacts métal-céramique dans ces systèmes sont particulièrement résistifs et limitants. Les performances qui en découlent sont logiquement affectées et leur amélioration passe par un travail d’optimisation des interfaces. Une étude approfondie basée sur la méthode TLM (Méthode des Lignes de Transmission) a permis d’aboutir à une amélioration substantielle des résistances de contact.
