Clark Wissler (pedagogical Seminary, vol. 5) conducted an investigation of the reading of some 2000 children in Indiana schools, based upon the selections in the class readers, from the second to the fifth year. He deals with children of an earlier age than those considered in this book, and he makes no attempt to find elements of inter est in the several classes of literature; but his classification of selections is practically the same as this, and the choice of literary works shown in his report is of interest for com parison with that of older pupils.
