Foy and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The FAA Wind Shear Program has the objectives of examining the hazards associated with low-level wind shear, developing solutions to the wind-shear problem, implementing the solutions, and integrating them into the National Airspace System. In support of this program, potential solutions in the category of airborne equipment are being investigated by the All-Weather Landing Systems (AWLS) team under Task 2 of a contract from the FAA Approach and Landing Division. The Task 2 team consists of SRI, Bunker Ramo Corporation (BR), and Collins Avionics Group of Rockwell International. The investigation has been concerned with airline transport jet aircraft. The approach has been to give primary consideration to the lowest-cost candidate aiding concepts to ensure that any potential solution will be cost effective. The project task has included the design and test of airplane control laws, the analysis of airplane responses to wind shears, the development of wind models, the determination of the hazards presented by various wind fields, and the development and test of various instruments intended to aid the pilot in coping with wind shear. The majority of the effort has been spent on a series of piloted flight simulation tests.

This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document contains a description of a comprehensive database that is to be used for certification testing of airborne forward-look windshear detection systems. The database was developed by NASA Langley Research Center, at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to support the industry initiative to certify and produce forward-look windshear detection equipment. The database contains high resolution, three dimensional fields for meteorological variables that may be sensed by forward-looking systems. The database is made up of seven case studies which have been generated by the Terminal Area Simulation System, a state-of-the-art numerical system for the realistic modeling of windshear phenomena. The selected cases represent a wide spectrum of windshear events. General descriptions and figures from each of the case studies are included, as well as equations for F-factor, radar-reflectivity factor, and rainfall rate. The document also describes scenarios and paths through the data sets, jointly developed by NASA and the FAA, to meet FAA certification testing objectives. Instructions for reading and verifying the data from tape are included. Switzer, G. F. and Proctor, F. H. and Hinton, D. A. and Aanstoos, J. V. Book Synopsis Analysis and Specification of Slant Wind Shear by : H. Albert Brown
Download or read book Analysis and Specification of Slant Wind Shear written by H. Albert Brown and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind data have been analyzed to produce frequencies of occurrence of slant wind shear with respect to surface wind speed, time of day, vertical temperature gradient and wind shear direction differences. Slant wind shear (SWS) is a measurement that more closely approximates the shear encountered by an aircraft on takeoff or landing. It is computed as the wind shear between a higher level wind (in this study, 60 m) and the surface separated by a horizontal distance equivalent to that which an aircraft would traverse in descending or ascending that height. Additional study was also completed on the specification of slant wind shear along the runway through the use of an offset towersurface site system.
