Book Synopsis Development of Turbulence-measuring Equipment by : Leslie S. G. Kovásznay
Download or read book Development of Turbulence-measuring Equipment written by Leslie S. G. Kovásznay and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot-wire turbulence-measuring equipment has been developed to meet the more-stringent requirements involved in the measurement of fluctuations in flow parameters at supersonic velocities. The higher mean speed necessitates the resolution of higher frequency components than at low speed, and the relatively low turbulence level present at supersonic speed makes necessary an improved noise level for the equipment. The equipment covers the frequency range from 2 to 70,000 cycles per second. The equipment is adaptable to all-purpose turbulence work with improved utility and accuracy over that of older types of equipment. Sample measurements are given to demonstrate the performance.

Book Synopsis Calorimetric Determination of Constant-pressure Specific Heats of Carbon Dioxide at Elevated Pressures and Temperatures by : Virgil E. Schrock
Download or read book Calorimetric Determination of Constant-pressure Specific Heats of Carbon Dioxide at Elevated Pressures and Temperatures written by Virgil E. Schrock and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The constant-pressure specific heat of carbon dioxide has been measured over the range of temperatures and pressures from ambient condtions to 1000 pounds per square inch gage and 1000 degrees F using a steady-flow calorimeter operated on an open cycle. It appears that the apparatus as used in this determination will yield values with a probable error of 0.5 percent at the highest temperature level considered. The results of these tests check the widely accepted spectroscopic data within 1 percent. The values at elevated pressure are in reasonable agreement with those derived from the zero-pressure spectroscopic values and the application of the Beattie-Bridgeman equation of state. Only very limited calorimetric data are available in the literature, but substantial agreement exists with those considered reliable.
Book Synopsis Turbulence and Transition Modelling by : M. Hallbäck
Download or read book Turbulence and Transition Modelling written by M. Hallbäck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to give, within a single volume, an introduction to the fields of turbulence modelling and transition-to-turbulence prediction, and to provide the physical background for today's modelling approaches in these problem areas as well as giving a flavour of advanced use of prediction methods. Turbulence modelling approaches, ranging from single-point models based on the eddy-viscosity concept and the Reynolds stress transport equations (Chapters 3,4,5), to large-eddy simulation (LES) techniques (Ch. 7), are covered. The foundations of hydrodynamical stability and transition are presented (Ch. 2) along with transition prediction methods based on single-point closures (Ch. 6), LES techniques (Ch. 7) and the parabolized stability equations (Ch. 8). The book addresses engineers and researchers, in industry or academia, who are entering into the fields of turbulence or transition modelling research or need to apply turbulence or transition prediction methods in their work.

Download or read book Turbulence written by P. Bradshaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulent transport of momentum, heat and matter dominates many of the fluid flows found in physics, engineering and the environmental sciences. Complicated unsteady motions which mayor may not count as turbulence are found in interstellar dust clouds and in the larger blood vessels. The fascination of this nonlinear, irreversible stochastic process for pure scientists is demonstrated by the contributions made to its understanding by several of the most distinguished mathematical physicists of this century, and its importance to engineers is evident from the wide variety of industries which have contributed to, or benefit from, our current knowledge. Several books on turbulence have appeared in recent years. Taken collectively, they illustrate the depth of the subject, from basic principles accessible to undergraduates to elaborate mathematical solutions representing many years of work, but there is no one account which emphasizes its breadth. For this, a multi-author work is necessary. This book is an introduction to our state of knowledge of turbulence in most of the branches of science which have contributed to that knowledge. It is not a Markovian sequence of unrelated essays, and we have not simply assembled specialized accounts of turbulence problems in each branch; this book is a unified treatment, with the material classified according to phenomena rather than application, and freed as far as possible from discipline-oriented detail. The approach is "applied" rather than "pure" with the aim of helping people who need to under stand or predict turbulence in real life.
