Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sensor for measuring body glucose concentration non-invasively was designed. This non-invasive sensor is an inductor with plastic material as its core having permeability nearly equal to that of air. The proposed sensor is examined by placing it on the body usually on wrist or arm and the obtained results are analyzed to know the change in glucose concentration. The working principle of the sensor is that the stray capacitance present between the turns of the inductor varies with the change in body glucose because the change in glucose levels changes the dielectric properties of the tissue and as the sensor is on the body, it senses these changes in dielectric properties. The circuit model of the sensor is simulated to analyze its electrical characteristics and the observed results are provided in this work. A prototype of the sensor is built and several tests are conducted on body and even on sugar solutions of different concentrations. A detection circuit is built which includes amplitude and phase detectors to measure the variations of sensor output. With the analysis of body test results, the sensor seems to sense the change in body glucose concentration before and after the meals which is observed as a change in the voltage of the detection circuit.
