Book excerpt: Excerpt from Development of Muslim Theology, Jurisprudence and Constitutional Theory It is with very great diffidence that I send out this book. Of the lack and need of some text-book of the kind there can be little doubt. From the educated man who wishes to read with intelligence his "Arabian Nights" to the student of history or of law or of theology who wishes to know how it has gone in such matters with the great Muslim world, there is demand enough and to spare. Still graver is the difficulty for the growing body of young men who are taking up the study of Arabic. In English or German or French there is no book to which a teacher may send, his pupils for brief guidance on the development of these institutions; on the development of law there are only scattered and fragmentary papers, and on the development of theology there is practically nothing. But of the difficulty of supplying this need there can be even less doubt. Goldziher could do it fully and completely; no other Arabist alive could approach the task other than with trepidation. The following pages therefore form a kind of forlorn attempt, a rushing in on the part of one who is sure he is not an angel and is in grave doubt on the question of folly, but who also sees a gap and no great alacrity on the part of his betters toward filling it. Book Synopsis The Closing of the Muslim Mind by : Robert R. Reilly
Download or read book The Closing of the Muslim Mind written by Robert R. Reilly and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam's Intellectual Suicide—and the Threat to Us All People are shocked and frightened by the behavior coming out the Islamic world—not only because it is violent, but also because it is seemingly inexplicable. While there are many answers to the question of “what went wrong” in the Muslim world, no one has decisively answered why it went wrong. Until now. In this eye-opening new book, foreign policy expert Robert R. Reilly uncovers the root of our contemporary crisis: a pivotal struggle waged within the Muslim world nearly a millennium ago. In a heated battle over the role of reason, the side of irrationality won. The deformed theology that resulted, Reilly reveals, produced the spiritual pathology of Islamism, and a deeply dysfunctional culture. Terrorism—from 9/11, to London, Madrid, and Mumbai, to the Christmas 2009 attempted airline bombing—is the most obvious manifestation of this crisis. But Reilly shows that the pathology extends much further. The Closing of the Muslim Mind solves such puzzles as: · why peace is so elusive in the Middle East · why the Arab world stands near the bottom of every measure of human development · why scientific inquiry is nearly dead in the Islamic world · why Spain translates more books in a single year than the entire Arab world has in the past thousand years · why some people in Saudi Arabia still refuse to believe man has been to the moon · why Muslim media frequently present natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina as God’s direct retribution Delving deeper than previous polemics and simplistic analyses, The Closing of the Muslim Mind provides the answers the West has so desperately needed in confronting the Islamist crisis.
Book Synopsis Corpus Juris of Islamic International Criminal Justice by : Farhad Malekian
Download or read book Corpus Juris of Islamic International Criminal Justice written by Farhad Malekian and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 769 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pioneering scholarly oeuvre evaluates the major comparative philosophy of Islamic international criminal justice. It represents an in-depth analysis of the necessities of creating an Islamic international criminal court, its possible jurisdiction, proceedings, judgments, and sanctions. It implies a court functioning under the legal personality of the International Criminal Court, with comparative international criminal lawyers with basic knowledge of Shariah contributing to the prevention of crimes and impunity at an international level. The morality and philosophy of Islamic justice are highly relevant with reference to the atrocities committed explicitly or implicitly under the pretext of Islamic rules by superiors, groups and governments. The volume focuses on substantive criminal law and three methods of the criminal procedure, namely the inquisitorial, adversarial, and adquisitorial. The first two constitute the corpus juris of civil and common law systems. The third term presents a hybrid of the first two methods. The intention is to enhance the scope of each method of the criminal procedure comprehensively. The volume examines their variations and effects on a shared system of international criminal justice. The inherence of comparable norms in the foundation of Islamic and international criminal law affirms their efficiency in the implementation of the essence of the complementarity principle. This book will appeal to readers who are interested in comparative criminal law, international criminal justice, and Shariah criminal law. It is recommended for course literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islamic jurisprudence or usul al-fiqh provides the foundation for any meaningful study of Islamic law. The present book has been in the field for more than a decade and has received a positive response from many quarters. It is used as a textbook in a number of university courses. Over the years, however, students have shown an eagerness to know more. They have raised many questions whose answers the book did not provide. A catalogue of the questions asked, and those not asked, gave rise to the need to revise the book. The present, third, edition of the book has, therefore, been revised and three chapters at the end have been completely rewritten.
