Book Synopsis Development of Improved Coatings for Nickel-and Cobalt-Base Alloys by : James F. Nejedlik
Download or read book Development of Improved Coatings for Nickel-and Cobalt-Base Alloys written by James F. Nejedlik and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to develop and upgrade aluminum containing coating systems for the protection of nickel and cobalt alloys used in gas turbine hot section components. A comprehensive investigation of modifying elements was undertaken and correlated with hot corrosion resistance and diffusional stability under blade and vane cycle conditions (1950 amd 2200F peak temperatures, respectively). The modifying elements and combinations evaluated were Co, Mn, Cr, Ta, Fe, Mg, Si, Y, Cr-Mn, Co-Cr and Fe-Cr. The influence of the modified coatings on mechanical properties, stress-oxidation, impact and thermal shock of the superalloys was also determined. (Author).

Book Synopsis Further Development of Coatings for Protection of Dispersion Strengthened Nickel from Oxidation, Parts i and Ii by : F. R. Baker
Download or read book Further Development of Coatings for Protection of Dispersion Strengthened Nickel from Oxidation, Parts i and Ii written by F. R. Baker and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies were made to develop and evaluate Cr/Al duplex coatings for protection of dispersion-strengthened TD-Nickel and related alloys. Improved coating processes, both for vacuum and atmospheric pressure operation were developed. Modifications of the pack inert to control the rate of chromizing were found helpful in reducing coating defects. Protective capabilities for Cr/Al ocatings in cyclic-oxidation of greater than 500 hours at 2200F and 200 hours at 2400F were achieved. In sulfidation-erosion rig tests at 2100F, coatings were protective for about 150 hours. For temperatures of 2200F or below, neither thermal shock nor mechanical behavior were adversely affected by coating. Duplex coatings applied to TD Cobalt and TC-Nickel-Molybdenum alloys also gave satisfactory protection. (Author).

Download or read book Directory of High Temperature Corrosion Research written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The directory lists the organizations, together with the investigators and the research areas (or specific programs) in which they are working, alphabetically by countries. There are 178 organizations from eleven NATO countries included. A category index indicates the high-temperature corrosion research areas in which the various organizations are conducting research. The two research areas currently receiving the most attention are (1) material behavior under corrosion and (2) reaction kinetics and diffusion processes, in which 119 and 97 organizations, respectively, are working. An alphabetical index of investigators includes approximately 240 names. (Author).

Book Synopsis Development of Dispersion-Strengthened Nickel and Cobalt-Base Alloys by : Richard F. Cheney
Download or read book Development of Dispersion-Strengthened Nickel and Cobalt-Base Alloys written by Richard F. Cheney and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two methods were compared for preparing dispersion-strengthened nickel- and cobalt-base alloys. A technique of selectively reducing intimately mixed oxides, which were prepared by atomizing and drying a solution of the components, was more successful than one involving the coating of dispersoid particles with the matrix by vapor deposition. The conditions were determined for preparing Ni-15Mo-4ThO2 and Co-15Mo-4ThO2 powders by selective reduction. Hot pressing, hydrogen sintering, and powder rolling were evaluated for powder consolidation. The conditions for successful rolling, extrusion, and forging were investigated for Ni-15Mo-4ThO2. Process temperatures above 1200C promoted ThO2 growth to 400-500A. Deformation-anneal sequences were critical to good strength at elevated temperatures. Ultimate strengths of 21 ksi at 1800F were obtained and higher strengths seem possible. Molybdenum considerably improved the matrix strength to at least 1400F.
