Book excerpt: This book offers a definitive, scientifically grounded guide for better teaching and learning practices. Drawing from thousands of documents and the opinions of recognized experts worldwide, it explains in straight talk the new Mind, Brain, and Education Science—a field that has grown out of the intersection of neuroscience, education, and psychology. While parents and teachers are often bombarded with promises of “a better brain,” this book distinguishes true, applicable neuroscience from the popular neuromyths that have gained currency in education. Each instructional guideline presented in the book is accompanied by real-life classroom examples to help teachers envision the direct application of the information in their own schools. The author offers essential tools for evaluating new information as it flows from research and adds to what we know. Written by a teacher for teachers, this easy-to-use resource: Documents the findings of the top experts in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, and education. Addresses the confusion around the misuse of concepts in brain-based education. Applies well-substantiated findings about the brain to classroom practice and teaching.

Book Synopsis Farm-Level Microsimulation Modelling by : Cathal O'Donoghue
Download or read book Farm-Level Microsimulation Modelling written by Cathal O'Donoghue and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which is the first to be published in the emerging field of farm-level microsimulation, highlights the different methodological components of microsimulation modelling: hypothetical, static, dynamic, behavioural, spatial and macro–micro. The author applies various microsimulation-based methodological tools to farms in a consistent manner and, supported by a set of Stata codes, undertakes analysis of a wide range of farming systems from OECD countries. To these case studies, O’Donoghue incorporates farming policies such as CAP income support payments, agri-environmental schemes, forestry planting incentives and biomass incentives – in doing so, he illuminates the merits of microsimulation in this environment.

Book Synopsis Modeling Disease Spread and Control by : Tariq Halasa
Download or read book Modeling Disease Spread and Control written by Tariq Halasa and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical models are useful tools to understand the epidemiology and agent-host interaction of diseases. They are developed and applied since over a century, but with increasing computer capacity, they become increasingly prominent as part of evidence based decision making. Mathematical models are frequently used to construct preparedness and contingency plans for highly contagious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease. This allows proposing effective strategies to control the spread of the disease in case of an incursion, and avails useful tools to support decision making during an outbreak. They are also used to monitor, prevent and control endemic diseases within populations or farms. In addition, mathematical models improve our understanding of the contact structure between farms, pointing out risky elements in the contact network for disease introduction or further spread within the population. This Research Topic presents valuable studies presenting different aspects and implementations of mathematical modeling for disease spread and control in the veterinary field. The areas covered include model construction, network analysis, tools for decision makers, and costeffective control of endemic diseases.
