This book was released on 1955 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: It is demonstrated with the aid of similitude arguments that a model fired from a hypervelocity gun upstream through a special supersonic nozzle should undergo motion and experience aerodynamic heating and resulting thermal stresses like those encountered by a long-range ballistic missile entering the earth's atmosphere. This combination of hypervelocity gun and supersonic nozzle is therefore termed an "Atmospheric Entry Simulator."

Book Synopsis Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads by : E. G. Bodine
Download or read book Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads written by E. G. Bodine and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the present investigation was to study the interaction of bearing and tensile loads on the creep behavior of joints. To achieve this objective, a simplified model was employed which contained many of the features found in riveted connections. Through the use of this simulated joint, an analysis of complex regions in actual joints could be effected. In the study, results for a number of tensile-to-bearing load ratios were obtained, and the results were analyzed.

Book Synopsis Modeling Flight NASA Latest Version by : Joseph Chambers
Download or read book Modeling Flight NASA Latest Version written by Joseph Chambers and published by Joseph Chambers. This book was released on 2015-08-10 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: state of the art in aeronautical engineering has been continually accelerated by the development of advanced analysis and design tools. Used in the early design stages for aircraft and spacecraft, these methods have provided a fundamental understanding of physical phenomena and enabled designers to predict and analyze critical characteristics of new vehicles, including the capability to control or modify unsatisfactory behavior. For example, the relatively recent emergence and routine use of extremely power- ful digital computer hardware and software has had a major impact on design capabilities and procedures. Sophisticated new airflow measurement and visualization systems permit the analyst to conduct micro- and macro-studies of properties within flow fields on and off the surfaces of models in advanced wind tunnels. Trade studies of the most efficient geometrical shapes for aircraft can be conducted with blazing speed within a broad scope of integrated technical disciplines, and the use of sophisticated piloted simulators in the vehicle development process permits the most important segment of operations—the human pilot—to make early assessments of the acceptability of the vehicle for its intended mission. Knowledgeable applica- tions of these tools of the trade dramatically reduce risk and redesign, and increase the marketability and safety of new aerospace vehicles.
