Book Synopsis Development of Alternating Current Plasma Accelerator for Application as an Ultra-high-velocity Tunnel by : J. M. Rocard
Download or read book Development of Alternating Current Plasma Accelerator for Application as an Ultra-high-velocity Tunnel written by J. M. Rocard and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of the research was to develop the technology required for the application of the continuous traveling wave concept to provide moving environment simulation of the conditions prevailing in the upper atmosphere between 300,000 and 400,000 feet altitude at velocities between 2,600 and 12,700 meters/sec. The efficient application of the travel concept to large wind tunnel facilites requires that polyphase tuned circuits be matched to appropriate power supplies and used to produce the traveling magnetic field. The design principles and prototype polyphase coil circuit and associated tuning circuitry are described in Section 3. The details of the prototype accelerator and associated power supplies are described in Section 4.

Download or read book Low-Speed Wind Tunnel Testing written by Jewel B. Barlow and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1999-02-22 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brand-new edition of the classic guide on low-speed wind tunnel testing While great advances in theoretical and computational methods have been made in recent years, low-speed wind tunnel testing remains essential for obtaining the full range of data needed to guide detailed design decisions for many practical engineering problems. This long-awaited Third Edition of William H. Rae, Jr.'s landmark reference brings together essential information on all aspects of low-speed wind tunnel design, analysis, testing, and instrumentation in one easy-to-use resource. Written by authors who are among the most respected wind tunnel engineers in the world, this edition has been updated to address current topics and applications, and includes coverage of digital electronics, new instrumentation, video and photographic methods, pressure-sensitive paint, and liquid crystal-based measurement methods. The book is organized for quick access to topics of interest, and examines basic test techniques and objectives of modeling and testing aircraft designs in low-speed wind tunnels, as well as applications to fluid motion analysis, automobiles, marine vessels, buildings, bridges, and other structures subject to wind loading. Supplemented with real-world examples throughout, Low-Speed Wind Tunnel Testing, Third Edition is an indispensable resource for aerospace engineering students and professionals, engineers and researchers in the automotive industries, wind tunnel designers, architects, and others who need to get the most from low-speed wind tunnel technology and experiments in their work.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion by : Dan M. Goebel
Download or read book Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion written by Dan M. Goebel and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-22 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout most of the twentieth century, electric propulsion was considered the technology of the future. Now, the future has arrived. This important new book explains the fundamentals of electric propulsion for spacecraft and describes in detail the physics and characteristics of the two major electric thrusters in use today, ion and Hall thrusters. The authors provide an introduction to plasma physics in order to allow readers to understand the models and derivations used in determining electric thruster performance. They then go on to present detailed explanations of: Thruster principles Ion thruster plasma generators and accelerator grids Hollow cathodes Hall thrusters Ion and Hall thruster plumes Flight ion and Hall thrusters Based largely on research and development performed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and complemented with scores of tables, figures, homework problems, and references, Fundamentals of Electric Propulsion: Ion and Hall Thrusters is an indispensable textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students who are preparing to enter the aerospace industry. It also serves as an equally valuable resource for professional engineers already at work in the field.
