Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich VWL - Außenhandelstheorie, Außenhandelspolitik, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Fluctuation in export earnings is a great concern to policy makers and can be caused by many factors. This study has analyzed the causes of export instability from 1980/81 to 2012/13 based on secondary data. Using Ordinary Least Square technique the empirical result shows that there is positive relationship between export instability index and three independent variables: commodity concentration index, geographic concentration index and openness index. Furthermore, it again establishes the negative relationship between export instability index and four independent variables: consumption ratio, food ratio, instability index of real agricultural GDP and instability index of real nonagricultural GDP having coefficients of -2.922, -7.633, -5.169, and -0.474 respectively.

Book Synopsis Nepal by : International Monetary Fund
Download or read book Nepal written by International Monetary Fund and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1996-07-18 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper highlights that progress on structural reforms in Nepal stalled during 1994/95 while economic performance deteriorated. Real GDP slowed as agriculture output was depressed by a less favorable monsoon, and exports declined as both the carpet and garment sectors faltered. Although the government’s domestic borrowing remained low, rapid growth in private credit financed a surge in imports that in combination with weakening export demand led to a sharp reduction of the external surplus. In 1995/96, economic activity rebounded as favorable weather conditions boosted agricultural output, while inflation performance continued to be satisfactory.
Book Synopsis China's Changing Trade and the Implications for the CLMV by : Mr.Koshy Mathai
Download or read book China's Changing Trade and the Implications for the CLMV written by Mr.Koshy Mathai and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s trade patterns are evolving. While it started in light manufacturing and the assembly of more sophisticated products as part of global supply chains, China is now moving up the value chain, “onshoring” the production of higher-value-added upstream products and moving into more sophisticated downstream products as well. At the same time, with its wages rising, it has started to exit some lower-end, more labor-intensive sectors. These changes are taking place in the broader context of China’s rebalancing—away from exports and toward domestic demand, and within the latter, away from investment and toward consumption—and as a consequence, demand for some commodity imports is slowing, while consumption imports are slowly rising. The evolution of Chinese trade, investment, and consumption patterns offers opportunities and challenges to low-wage, low-income countries, including China’s neighbors in the Mekong region. Cambodia, Lao P.D.R., Myanmar, and Vietnam (the CLMV) are all open economies that are highly integrated with China. Rebalancing in China may mean less of a role for commodity exports from the region, but at the same time, the CLMV’s low labor costs suggest that manufacturing assembly for export could take off as China becomes less competitive, and as China itself demands more consumption items. Labor costs, however, are only part of the story. The CLMV will need to strengthen their infrastructure, education, governance, and trade regimes, and also run sound macro policies in order to capitalize fully on the opportunities presented by China’s transformation. With such policy efforts, the CLMV could see their trade and integration with global supply chains grow dramatically in the coming years.

Book Synopsis Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia by : Pravakar Sahoo
Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia written by Pravakar Sahoo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1990s, the governments of South Asian countries acted as ‘facilitators’ to attract FDI. As a result, the inflow of FDI increased. However, to become an attractive FDI destination as China, Singapore, or Brazil, South Asia has to improve the local conditions of doing business. This book, based on research that blends theory, empirical evidence, and policy, asks and attempts to answer a few core questions relevant to FDI policy in South Asian countries: Which major reforms have succeeded? What are the factors that influence FDI inflows? What has been the impact of FDI on macroeconomic performance? Which policy priorities/reforms needed to boost FDI are pending? These questions and answers should interest policy makers, academics, and all those interested in FDI in the South Asian region and in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Book Synopsis Economic Benefits of Export Diversification in Small States by : Arnold McIntyre
Download or read book Economic Benefits of Export Diversification in Small States written by Arnold McIntyre and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-04-11 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper considers concepts of economic diversification with respect to exports (including service sectors) for small states. We assessed the economic performance of different groups of 34 small states over the period of 1990-2015 and found those more diversified experienced lower output volatility and higher average growth than most other small states. Our findings are consistent with conventional economic theories but we found that export diversification has a more significant impact on reducing output volatility than improving long run growth in small states. Diversification requires fundamental changes and should be contemplated in the context of a cohesive development strategy.
