Book Synopsis The Development of an Integrated Planning and Decision Support System (IPDSS) for Land Consolidation by : Demetris Demetriou
Download or read book The Development of an Integrated Planning and Decision Support System (IPDSS) for Land Consolidation written by Demetris Demetriou and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an extensive review of three interrelated issues: land fragmentation, land consolidation, and land reallocation, and it presents in detail the theoretical background, design, development and application of a prototype integrated planning and decision support system for land consolidation. The system integrates geographic information systems (GIS) and artificial intelligence techniques including expert systems (ES) and genetic algorithms (GAs) with multi-criteria decision methods (MCDM), both multi-attribute (MADM) and multi-objective (MODM). The system is based on four modules for measuring land fragmentation; automatically generating alternative land redistribution plans; evaluating those plans; and automatically designing the land partitioning plan. The presented research provides a new scientific framework for land-consolidation planning both in terms of theory and practice, by presenting new findings and by developing better tools and methods embedded in an integrated GIS environment. It also makes a valuable contribution to the fields of GIS and spatial planning, as it provides new methods and ideas that could be applied to improve the former for the benefit of the latter in the context of planning support systems. “From the 1960s, ambitious research activities set out to observe regarding IT-support of the complex and time consuming redistribution processes within land consolidation – without any practically relevant results, until now. This scientific work is likely to close that gap. This distinguished publication is highly recommended to land consolidation planning experts, researchers and academics alike.” – Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Thomas, Münster/ Germany "Planning support systems take new scientific tools based on GIS, optimisation and simulation and use these to inform the process of plan-making and policy. This book is one of the first to show how this can be consistently done and it is a triumph of demonstrating how such systems can be made operational. Essential reading for planners, analysts and GI scientists." – Prof. Michael Batty, University College London
Book Synopsis The Geography of Southeast Asia by : Thomas A. Rumney
Download or read book The Geography of Southeast Asia written by Thomas A. Rumney and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2010-04-07 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Geography of Southeast Asia, Rumney discusses an area that has long been of interest to geographers and other academics. As interest in Southeast Asia has grown, particularly over the past forty years, the volume and variety of scholarly publications on the varied geographical aspects of the region have also increased. This collection is an attempt to identify, organize, and present as many of these works as possible. The region as a whole, and each individual country of the area, are covered in individual chapters. Each chapter is further systematically organized by topic, including general works, cultural-social geography, economic geography, historical geography, physical geography, political geography, and urban geography. This book presents a myriad of sources, such as atlases, books, chapters, articles, dissertations, and theses are included, as well as works written in English, French, German, and other languages, providing the reader with a thorough view of Southeast Asian geography.
Book Synopsis Agricultural Terracing Development Perspectives by : Ek Raj Ojha
Download or read book Agricultural Terracing Development Perspectives written by Ek Raj Ojha and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural terracing is intrinsically intertwined with the overall livelihoods, and living style and situation of people. This is most distinctly so in highlands of predominantly agricultural regions and countries. In many important ways, in the similar vein, the processes and patterns of sustained growth and development in human settlements, such as the rural settings in particular, have very strong linkages with agricultural terrace systems. Clearly, therefore, the need for and importance of improved and sustainable management of, and hence a better understanding about, these systems have been persistently growing. Besides technical and financial backing, a thorough understanding of and due consideration to the location and people are crucial. Only then, achieving the aims and ambitions of any conservation program would be possible. Being a brief yet balanced account of various vital aspects of agricultural terracing, this book should be of considerable interest and use to everyone concerned with using the land and preventing its degradation. However, its extensive readership may mostly comprise planners, policymakers, professional as well as student researchers, teachers and students of agriculture and forestry, agriculturists, silviculturists, pedologists, extension workers, environmentalists, conservationists, nature lovers, tourism promoters, resort managers, landscape architects and some farmers.
