The best time to start praying for your marriage is before you say, "I do." This devotional guide helps you learn how to pray together for twelve specific areas of your relationship, including · the purpose of marriage · communication and conflict · spiritual, emotional, and sexual intimacy · understanding your roles and your differences · friendship and romance · money · parenting · and more It may sound like a cliché when you hear the old adage that "couples who pray together stay together," but the reality is that the divorce rate for couples who pray together, out loud, on a consistent basis is less than one percent. Prayer is key to a strong and lasting relationship. The Ready or Knot Prayer Guide shows you how to develop a lifelong habit to sustain a lifelong marriage.

Book excerpt: Want More From Your Prayer Life? If you’re dissatisfied in your prayer life, wanting to be more consistent in prayer, or looking to deepen your intimacy with God, then this Bible study was written for you. It examines the prayers of eight biblical characters and teaches you how to pray like the prayer warriors who went before you. You’ll study: Jesus: A Model Prayer Paul: A Prayer of Intercession Job: A Prayer of Despair Hannah: A Prayer of Longing David: A Prayer of Lament Asa: A Prayer of Seeking God Jehoshaphat: A Prayer of Dependence Nehemiah: A Prayer of Boldness Follow in the footsteps of these spiritual giants and discover anew what our loving God does with a little faith and a whole lot of prayer. You’ll love studying these scriptural prayers, like the prayer of Asa: Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, "Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You." (2 Chron. 14:11)

Book excerpt: “I’ve always loved the book of Genesis, where faith in the eternal, unchanging God of Abraham proves—paradoxically—to be more human than heroic. This is surely why I appreciate Ezra Byer’s exploration of the life of Jacob, whose story provides a window for examining his own seasons of doubt and depression. Mercifully, Ezra strips us of the illusion that faith will always be the swift, steady, sure climb. He reminds that we might cling to God—and still feel his absence. This is a book for the trenches—a book for building gritty, honest, ultimately resilient faith.” – Jen Pollock Michel, Author of Surprised by Paradox and Keeping Place “Walking with a Limp will point you to the sure sources of hope for the hopeless: The God of all hope and His word of hope. In it you’ll find practical help and encouragement to stay the course. You, like Jacob, can be a prince with God, an overcomer whose limp testifies to tenacious clinging to God.” – Dr. Philip Brown, Author of A Reader’s Hebrew Bible “In recent years, believers in Christ have become more transparent about the struggles we face with depression and mental illness. In this timely book, Ezra Byer contributes to this encouraging trend by inviting readers to re-read the ancient narrative of the Patriarch Jacob and encounter anew the God who heals and also sets apart his people for worship and service.” – Dr. Edward Smither, Author of Mission in the Early Church and Christian Martyrdom “When we suffer, we don’t need glib answers or easy truths. We need to hear from someone who knows what it’s like, can remind us of biblical truth, and point us to hope. That’s why I’m grateful that Ezra has written this honest, profound, and encouraging book. I can’t wait to read it again and to share it with others.” – Darryl Dash, Author of How to Grow

Book excerpt: Rebecca Lemon illuminates a previously-buried conception of addiction, as a form of devotion at once laudable, difficult, and extraordinary, that has been concealed by the persistent modern link of addiction to pathology. Surveying sixteenth-century invocations, she reveals how early moderns might consider themselves addicted to study, friendship, love, or God. However, she also uncovers their understanding of addiction as a form of compulsion that resonates with modern scientific definitions. Specifically, early modern medical tracts, legal rulings, and religious polemic stressed the dangers of addiction to alcohol in terms of disease, compulsion, and enslavement. Yet the relationship between these two understandings of addiction was not simply oppositional, for what unites these discourses is a shared emphasis on addiction as the overthrow of the will. Etymologically, "addiction" is a verbal contract or a pledge, and even as sixteenth-century audiences actively embraced addiction to God and love, writers warned against commitment to improper forms of addiction, and the term became increasingly associated with disease and tyranny. Examining canonical texts including Doctor Faustus, Twelfth Night, Henry IV, and Othello alongside theological, medical, imaginative, and legal writings, Lemon traces the variety of early modern addictive attachments. Although contemporary notions of addiction seem to bear little resemblance to its initial meanings, Lemon argues that the early modern period's understanding of addiction is relevant to our modern conceptions of, and debates about, the phenomenon.

This title provides the real spiritual base for the use of numbers, illustrating why they have their own integrity. It explains why they relate to particular psychological states and shows how they can be used for diagnosing life's problems and providing solutions. It shows how numbers are a mirror of our very essence, explaining the relevance of time cycles and dates of birth. It also highlights the universal message of the ten Sikh gurus and shows how you can become a Ten-in-One Being. As an offering of the formula behind all formulas, it offers no quick fixes, but presents numerology as a multi-faceted jewel that you can refer to again and again in your life. Not limited to any one numerology system, it reveals the ground of them all. Describing the essence of numbers it goes beyond the usual fortune telling or application of a particular system to put the soul back into numerology. It covers dates of birth, time calendars and spiritual bodies, telling you more about yourself in a friendly way than you imagine there is to know.
