Book Synopsis A Divine Revelation of Satan's Deceptions by : Mary K. Baxter
Download or read book A Divine Revelation of Satan's Deceptions written by Mary K. Baxter and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1976, Jesus took Mary K. Baxter on a spiritual journey for thirty nights to witness the torments of hell, charging her to reveal the terrible reality of God’s judgment and to relate the urgent message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Mary wrote about her journey to hell in her best-selling book A Divine Revelation of Hell, which has sold more than 1.3 million copies. After those thirty nights, Jesus told Mary, “I will close up your mind, and you will not remember some of the things I have shown and told you. But I will reopen your mind and bring back your understanding in the latter days. Then I will open up your remembrance….” Recently, God has brought back to Mary’s remembrance many of those experiences because these revelations are particularly for our day. A Divine Revelation of Satan’s Deceptions contains new images of hell that Mary has not related in her other books, as well as crucial insights into the deceptions Satan uses to destroy people and the tactics he employs to defeat believers. God has given His people anointings, gifts, and resources to build His kingdom that Satan has stolen and is holding captive in hell. This book reveals how we can use various “keys to the kingdom” to restore these blessings and to destroy the powers of darkness. Our choice is between allowing Satan to deceive and rob us—or claiming our spiritual inheritance and conquering the enemy in the power of God.

She must grapple with the fact that the man she thought she knew has lied and deceived her. She may even bear the brunt of shame and judgment when the people around her find out. Drawing from her experience both as a marriage and family therapist and a woman who personally experienced the devastation of sexual betrayal, Dr. Sheri Keffer walks women impacted by betrayal through the pain and toward recovery. She explains how the trauma of betrayal affects our minds, bodies, spirits, and sexuality. She offers practical tools for dealing with emotional triggers and helps women understand the realities of sexual addiction. And she shows women how to practice self-care, develop healthy boundaries, protect themselves from abuse or manipulation, and find freedom from the burden of shame and guilt.

Download or read book The Deceptions written by Jill Bialosky and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2023-09-05 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An explosive tale of art and myth, desire and betrayal, from New York Times best-selling author Jill Bialosky "Bialosky urgently captures the moment in an adult's life when reflection leads to regret, and a desire to recapture the promise of one's youth becomes a kind of desperation. A vulnerable and searching tale of art, myth, and mortality." —Oprah Daily Something terrible has happened and I don’t know what to do. An unnamed narrator’s life is unraveling. Her only child has left home, and her twenty-year marriage is strained. Anticipation about her soon-to-be-released book of poetry looms. She seeks answers to the paradoxes of love, desire, and parenthood among the Greek and Roman gods at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As she passes her days teaching at a boys’ prep school, spending her off-hours sequestered in the museum's austere galleries, she is haunted by memories of a yearlong friendship with a colleague, a fellow poet struggling with his craft. As secret betrayals and deceptions come to light and rage threatens to overwhelm her, the pantheon of gods assume remarkably vivid lives of their own, forcing her to choose between reality and myth in an effort to free herself from the patriarchal constraints of the past and embrace a new vision for her future. The Deceptions is a page-turning and seductively told exploration of female sexuality and ambition as well as a human drama that dares to test the stories we tell ourselves. It is also a brilliant investigation of a life caught between the dueling magnetic poles of privacy and its appropriation in art and literature. Celebrated poet, memoirist, and novelist Jill Bialosky has reached new and daring heights in her boldest work yet.

Book Synopsis Lying and Deception in Everyday Life by : Michael Lewis
Download or read book Lying and Deception in Everyday Life written by Michael Lewis and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 1993-02-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I speak the truth, not so much as I would, but as much as I dare...."-- Montaigne "All cruel people describe themselves as paragons of frankness.'" -- Tennessee Williams Truth and deception--like good and evil--have long been viewed as diametrically opposed and unreconcilable. Yet, few people can honestly claim they never lie. In fact, deception is practiced habitually in day-to-day life--from the polite compliment that doesn't accurately relay one's true feelings, to self-deception about one's own motivations. What fuels the need for people to intricately construct lies and illusions about their own lives? If deceptions are unconscious, does it mean that we are not responsible for their consequences? Why does self-deception or the need for illusion make us feel uncomfortable? Taking into account the sheer ubiquity and ordinariness of deception, this interdisciplinary work moves away from the cut-and-dried notion of duplicity as evil and illuminates the ways in which deception can also be understood as a adaptive response to the demands of living with others. The book articulates the boundaries between unethical and adaptive deception demonstrating how some lies serve socially approved goals, while others provoke distrust and condemnation. Throughout, the volume focuses on the range of emotions--from feelings of shame, fear, or envy, to those of concern and compassion--that motivate our desire to deceive ourselves and others. Providing an interdisciplinary exploration of the widespread phenomenon of lying and deception, this volume promotes a more fully integrated understanding of how people function in their everyday lives. Case illustrations, humor and wit, concrete examples, and even a mock television sitcom script bring the ideas to life for clinical practitioners, behavioral scientists, and philosophers, and for students in these realms.

Book Synopsis The Great Deceptions by : Carey Ingram
Download or read book The Great Deceptions written by Carey Ingram and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chaotic world, one thing that is obvious is that the enemy of God, Satan, is using his powers to attempt to deceive the Christian Church and those who have no relationship with Christ at all. He does this by any means necessary. His greatest power is that he knows our weaknesses. He is sullen, taking his time and making light of godly issues. And he is seductive, luring his prey into the world and into his train of thoughts. You must know that this is the only response that this defeated foe can have: try to bring others down into the pit of eternal damnation with him. Keep in mind that Satan has evil spirits who possess people whose only objective is to deceive God's people and the sinner man. As I am convicted to share my thoughts and ideas, my objective is to touch the hearts of people. I am one of many fighting for the very souls of mankind. This is spiritual warfare, and as a soldier, I am just doing what my Commanding Officer has commissioned me to do. I know many people will disagree with me as it is their right; however, I pray those who read this book with an open heart will be blessed in the way God intends. This work is about learning to make good choices that one might grow and be in an intimate relationship with God. This work is not about judging and condemning, but rather, in the spirit of love, I want to be sensitive and enlightening in my efforts to explain what I see as the danger of living worldly lifestyles. However, in order for me to do this, I pray that my readers will hear me out, and give me a real chance to express my beliefs and feelings. In the words of Pastor Rick Warren: "Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, then you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You do not have to compromise your convictions to be compassionate." We are all saved by the grace of God. However, that grace was not free. It was purchased by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, there is no room for compromise. We must know Christ as our Lord and Savior. I pray that this work will help define truth according to God's Holy Word and that this truth will set us all free.

Book Synopsis Passions and Deceptions by : Sabine Hake
Download or read book Passions and Deceptions written by Sabine Hake and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collaborator with Warner Brothers and Paramount in the early days of sound film, the German film director Ernst Lubitsch (1892-1947) is famous for his sense of ironic detachment and for the eroticism he infused into such comedies as So This Is Paris and Trouble in Paradise. In a general introduction to his silent and early sound films (1914-1932) and in close readings of his comedies, Sabine Hake focuses on the visual strategies Lubitsch used to convey irony and analyzes his contribution to the rise of classical narrative cinema. Exploring Lubitsch's depiction of femininity and the influence of his early German films on his entire career, she argues that his comedies represent an important outlet for dealing with sexual and cultural differences. The readings cover The Oyster Princess, The Doll, The Mountain Cat, Passion, Deception, So This Is Paris, Monte Carlo, and Trouble in Paradise, which are interpreted as part of an underlying process of negotiation between different modes of representation, narration, and spectatorship--a process that comprises the conditions of production in two different national cinemas and the ongoing changes in film technology. Drawing attention to Lubitsch's previously neglected German films, this book presents the years until 1922 as the formative period in his career.

Download or read book Mystical Mimesis written by Philip Krill and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Has there been anyone who has grasped the scandal of Christianity more profoundly than René Girard? Is there anyone who understands the paradoxical depths in which the uniqueness of the gospel subverts and dissolves the violent fabric holding together every form of human culture? Commentaries abound on the anthropological ingenuity of Girard’s mimetic theory. This book is an expression of my profound gratitude for Girard’s prescient insights into the scandalous power of the crucified Christ. The vision of Jesus standing silent and serene before Pilate and Caiaphas recapitulates for me, in iconic form, the ‘power and wisdom of God’ that defeats, sans violence, ‘the powers and principalities’ of the world. Mimetic violence, as Girard predicted, now threatens to engulf the entire world in a final spasm of apocalyptic annihilation. A demonic dynamic which begins as innocently and unconsciously as two infants wrangling over a simple toy now hypnotizes and blinds ‘the best and the brightest’ at the highest echelons of power. Our virtually irresistible need to exchange tit for tat finally has the whole world in its grip, ready to squeeze the life out of us all. Is this the reason the last verse in the bible is, ‘Maranatha, come, Lord Jesus’ (Rev. 22:20)?Without a doubt, only a divine intervention can deliver us from the Apocalypse on the horizon.
