Download or read book Transforming Nature written by Michael E. Gorman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is but the draft of a draft, as Melville said of Moby Dick. There is no prose here to match Melville's, but the scope is worthy of the great white whale. No one could possibly write a comprehensive, authoritative book on ethics, invention and discovery. I have not tried to, though I hope my bibliography will be a useful starting point for other explorers, and the cases and ideas presented here will keep people arguing for years. Although this book is nothing like a textbook, it is written for my students. I was trained as a teacher of psychology in graduate school and ended-up, by one of those happy chances of the job market, teaching psychology to engineering students rather than psyche majors. My dissertation and early research were in the psychology of scientific hypothesis-testing (see Chapter 2). When I team-taught a course with W. Bernard Carlson, a historian of technology, I saw how cognitive psychology might be applied to the study of invention. Bernie and I received funding from the National Science Foundation for three years of research on the invention of the telephone; a portion of that work is described in Chapter 3.

Book Synopsis SOFTWARE DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING by : BHATT, PRAMOD CHANDRA P.
Download or read book SOFTWARE DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING written by BHATT, PRAMOD CHANDRA P. and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2021-07-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook aims to prepare students, as well as, practitioners for software design and production. Keeping in mind theory and practice, the book keeps a balance between theoretical foundations and practical considerations. The book by and large meets the requirements of students at all levels of computer science and engineering/information technology for their Software design and Software engineering courses. The book begins with concepts of data and object. This helps in exploring the rationale that guide high level programming language (HLL) design and object oriented frameworks. Once past this post, the book moves on to expand on software design concerns. The book emphasizes the centrality of Parnas's separation of concerns in evolving software designs and architecture. The book extensively explores modelling frameworks such as Unified Modelling Language (UML) and Petri net based methods. Next, the book covers architectural principles and software engineering practices such as Agile – emphasizing software testing during development. It winds up with case studies demonstrating how systems evolve from basic concepts to final products for quality software designs. TARGET AUDIENCE • Undergraduate/postgraduate students of Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology • Postgraduate students of Software Engineering/Software Systems

Book excerpt: Pascal is the standard structured programming language for the personal computer. The novice programmer needs a strong grounding in the fundamentals of structured programming, whether preparing to program under Microsoft Windows, DOS, or the Apple Macintosh. Pascal is also a precursor to programming languages such as C++, Java, and Delphi. "Learn Pascal" teaches the novice programmer the basics of Pascal through hands-on examples and easy-to-follow drills in each chapter, and guides readers from the basic fundamentals to advanced techniques needed to effectively program real-world applications. The book also includes advanced material on problem-solving algorithms, which provide the experienced Pascal user with specialized tools to solve specific programming problems. The companion CD contains the examples and drills discussed in the book, along with the drill solutions. Also included is a full retail version of Delphi 4 Standard Edition. Sam Abolrous is a software engineer with an extensive background in software design and programming. He earned his electrical engineering degree from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and is currently a programmer/writer with Microsoft Corp. Abolrous has published articles for leading programming journals and has written over 50 books on computer science ranging from C++ to COBOL programming, including Wordware's "Learn C in Three Days" and "Learn Pascal in Three Days, Second Edition".
