Book excerpt: Planning and Design of Information Systems provides a theoretical base and a practical method of executing the planning of computerized information systems, and the planning and design of individual applications. The book is organized into five parts, covering the non-technical and nonimplementational part of information systems planning, design, and development. Part I gives the theoretical base for the subsequent parts of the book. It discusses modeling, techniques, notations, boundaries, quality issues and aspects, and decomposition techniques and problems. Part II discusses the needs, problems, and possible solutions for user participation. It describes user organizations, in respect of culture; maturity in the use of automation and computers; and gives a synthesis of participation, cultures, maturity, and information systems development techniques. Part III describes how to develop an Information Systems Architecture, an Information Systems Plan, and a Data Architecture. Part IV presents a structured, programmed approach to planning an application in a short period while maintaining high quality, and discusses project management of application development. Part V covers information analysis, data specification and conceptual data base design, and process and dialog design.

Book Synopsis Developing Web Information Systems by : Richard Vidgen
Download or read book Developing Web Information Systems written by Richard Vidgen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-09-25 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing Web Information Systems brings together traditional system development methods that have been taught for many years on information systems and computer science courses with web/e-commerce development. It is the first book to bring together IS development and the web applications in a thorough and systematic way. There is a running case study that illustrates web IS development from start to finish. The case is easy to understand (a theatre) and results in a working web application. Most, if not all, analysis and design texts fall short of making that step into software. The book draws heavily on practical experiences of web-based IS development resulting from commercial system development, so as well as appealing to students and academics, it will also interest practitioners. The coverage of data management and e-business strategy gives the book the broader scope essential for understanding IS development properly in an Internet context. First book to bring together IS development and web applications thoroughly and systematically Covers full development process from strategy, through analysis and design, to working software Interactive case study which can be accessed on author's website

Book Synopsis Design Research in Information Systems by : Alan Hevner
Download or read book Design Research in Information Systems written by Alan Hevner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 5 years since the publication of the seminal paper on “Design Science in Information Systems Research” by Hevner, March, Park, and Ram in MIS Quarterly and the initiation of the Information Technology and Systems department of the Communications of AIS. These events in 2004 are markers in the move of design science to the forefront of information systems research. A suf cient interval has elapsed since then to allow assessment of from where the eld has come and where it should go. Design science research and behavioral science research started as dual tracks when IS was a young eld. By the 1990s, the in ux of behavioral scientists started to dominate the number of design scientists and the eld moved in that direction. By the early 2000s, design people were having dif culty publishing in mainline IS journals and in being tenured in many universities. Yes, an annual Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS) was established in 1991 in conju- tion with the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and grew each year. But that was the extent of design science recognition. Fortunately, a revival is underway. By 2009, when this foreword was written, the fourth DESRIST c- ference has been held and plans are afoot for the 2010 meeting. Design scientists regained respect and recognition in many venues where they previously had little.

Book Synopsis High Level Models and Methodologies for Information Systems by : Pedro Isaias
Download or read book High Level Models and Methodologies for Information Systems written by Pedro Isaias and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-24 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors introduce and explain many methods and models for the development of Information Systems (IS). It was written in large part to aid designers in designing successful devices/systems to match user needs in the field. Chief among these are website development, usability evaluation, quality evaluation and success assessment. The book provides great detail in order to assist readers’ comprehension and understanding of both novel and refined methodologies by presenting, describing, explaining and illustrating their basics and working mechanics. Furthermore, this book presents many traditional methods and methodologies in an effort to make up a comprehensive volume on High Level Models and Methodologies for Information Systems. The target audience for this book is anyone interested in conducting research in IS planning and development. The book represents a main source of theory and practice of IS methods and methodologies applied to these realities. The book will appeal to a range of professions that are involved in planning and building the information systems, for example information technologists, information systems developers, as well as Web designers and developers—both researchers and practitioners; as a consequence, this book represents a genuinely multi-disciplinary approach to the field of IS methods and methodologies.
