Book excerpt: This report is one in a series that examines the development of research tools to support this research. The focus of this research was to develop methods for designing a gunnery training strategy. A training strategy was defined as any method for configuring instruction to enhance learning and/or reduce training costs. However, this report was limited to the discussion of methods that address the following key functions of training strategies: (a) organizing training objectives into units of instruction, (b) sequencing training both within and among units of instruction, (c) selecting the appropriate training device or medium for each unit, and (d) allocating training time to each unit/device combination. The training strategy methods were first discussed in terms of their theoretical rationale and usefulness for gunnery training. The methods were then tested by applying them to two prototypical problems in gunnery training: (1) the use of two different devices for training similar basic gunnery skills, and (2) the use of multiple devices to train the dissimilar skills in platoon gunnery. The application of methods for designing a training strategy demonstrated, in general, that the various methods can be applied to dissimilar gunnery training problems with sensible results. Only one of the methods failed to apply to both problems--the methods for allocating training time were not able to handle the more difficult multi-device tactical training problem. (sdw).

This book was released on 1996 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A strategy is proposed for minimizing the device-based training time required to prepare armor crews of the U.S. Army National Guard for on-tank training and live-fire gunnery qualification. Using two devices (i.e., the Conduct-of-Fire Tramer (COFT) and Abrans Full-Crew Interactive Simulation Trainer (AFIST), efficiency is achieved by training only gunnery engagements subjected to later live-fire evaluation, focusing on those engagements not performed to standard, and allocating training time to crews that need it most, as determined through pretesting. Guidance is provided to support strategy implementation at the company level and the conduct of research needed for future strategy refinement."--DTIC.

Download or read book Trainer's Guide for the Device-Based, Time-Compressed Army National Guard Tank Gunnery Training Strategy written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is a guide for trainers in Army National Guard (ARNG) armor units for a device-based gunnery training strategy. The purpose of the strategy is to reduce or compress the time required to prepare for tank crew gunnery qualifications (i.e., Table VIII). The strategy compresses the required training time by (a) limiting training to those skills and knowledges needed for successful Table VIII performance, (b) focusing training on Table VIII engagements that are most difficult to ARNG crews to perform, and (c) allocating device training time to crews that need it most and away from crews that are demonstrably proficient on the training device. The strategy is designed to be implemented at the local level with either the Conduct-of-Fire Trainer (COFT) or the Guard Unit Armory Device Full-Crew Interactive Simulation Trainer, Armor (GUARDFIST I). Reserve component, Table VIII, Tank gunnery, Army National Guard, Armor training, Training strategy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report provides an historical account and analysis of the U.S. Army Research Institute's (ARI) research and development (R & D) efforts on structured simulation-based training (SST). These R & D efforts have led to the development of 30 research reports, 14 conference papers, and over 200 training support packages (TSPs). The developed TSPs focused on optimizing the simulation-based training opportunities for armor and mechanized infantry platoons and companies, and their battalion and brigade staffs. The TSPs have also been developed for representatives of a battalion's or a brigade's combat support and combat service support elements. This report's findings indicate that the developed TSPs would, if utilized properly, help the U.S. Army more fully exploit its advanced simulation-training systems. In addition, 43 lessons learned have been derived from these SST projects. The present report provides a central information source on ARI's SST efforts, and has important implications for future SST research and development efforts."--Stinet.

Book Synopsis Design Institutional and Unit Sustainment Training Programs for XM1 Armor Crewmen by : Charlotte H. Campbell
Download or read book Design Institutional and Unit Sustainment Training Programs for XM1 Armor Crewmen written by Charlotte H. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an effort to reduce the costs and increase the efficiency of initial and sustainment training of XM1 armor crewmen, the Army is exploring the use of simulators for driving and tank gunnery. Assessment of transfer of training to operational equipment and estimation of the predictive validity of proficiency on a simulator are addressed empirically by the Army's operational testing system for device evaluation. The purpose of this report is to present the products prepared in response to the Task 1 and Task 2 requirements for Mission-Based Simulation and Training Requirements to design institutional training for XM1 driving and gunnery, and unit sustainment training for XM1 gunnery. Specifically, three products are presented: Capabilities analyses for XM1 armor crewman training devices; Recommended training program for XM1 armor crewman institutional training; Recommended unit sustainment training program for XM1 gunnery.
