Book Synopsis The Storage Correlator by : Peter Gustave Borden
Download or read book The Storage Correlator written by Peter Gustave Borden and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a complete analytic theory of the acousto-electric storage correlator, and experimental applications which demonstrate its versatility as a signal processor. Within the storage correlator, externally applied signals interact with the potentials associated with an acoustic surface wave traveling on a piezoelectric substrate. A spatially varying charge pattern is thereby stored in a linear array of semiconductor diodes. Application of a later reading signal yields the convolution or correlation of the reading signal and the stored charge pattern. A number of modes of both storing the charge pattern and reading it have been reported. The theory provides analytic predictions of the device performance for most of these modes of operation and most reported device structures. Experimental confirmation of the theory is given. Particular attention is paid to the transient characteristics of p(+)n diodes. It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that their response is nearly equivalent to that of fast diodes (e.g., Schottky diodes) in this application. As a consequence, they may be charged quickly (in nanoseconds) and can retain their charge for long times (seconds).

Book Synopsis Supramolecular Chemistry in Biomedical Imaging by : Stephen Faulkner
Download or read book Supramolecular Chemistry in Biomedical Imaging written by Stephen Faulkner and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2022-04-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been many great advances in the field of biomedical imaging in recent years, with supramolecular chemistry playing a key role in the evolution of modern imaging techniques. Non-covalent supramolecular interactions are fundamental to countless biological processes, from host–guest binding to the stabilisation of complex structures. Supramolecular chemistry techniques can be employed to create probes that can be targeted to either exploit or disrupt these interactions, giving the potential for both diagnostic and therapeutic effects. Furthermore, in techniques such as contrast enhanced MRI, controlling the interactions between solvent molecules and the imaging agent is crucial to the development of the technique. With rapid growth in the synthesis and study of molecular imaging agents, the understanding of their associated techniques has sometimes lagged behind. Supramolecular Chemistry in Biomedical Imaging will fill this gap by clarifying the state of current understanding and the nature of the underlying problems inherent to addressing problems in biology. It will cover both the techniques used in imaging and the molecular and supramolecular systems used to exploit them. This publication targets academics coming to the field from mainstream supramolecular chemistry, research graduates and undergraduates interested in supramolecular chemistry, synthesis or imaging agents and imaging techniques for biomedical applications.
Download or read book Video Microscopy written by Shinya Inoue and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since television became practical in the early 1950s, closed-circuit television (CCTV) in conjunction with the light microscope has provided large screen display, raised image contrast, and made the images formed by ultraviolet and infrared rays visible. With the introduction of large-scale integrated circuits in the last decade, TV equipment has improved by leaps and bounds, as has its application in microscopy. With modem CCTV, sometimes with the help of digital computers, we can distill the image from a scene that appears to be nothing but noise; capture fluorescence too dim to be seen; visualize structures far below the limit of resolution; crispen images hidden in fog; measure, count, and sort objects; and record in time-lapsed and high-speed sequences through the light microscope without great difficulty. In fact, video is becoming indispensable for harnessing the fullest capacity of the light microscope, a capacity that itself is much greater than could have been envisioned just a few years ago. The time seemed ripe then to review the basics of video, and of microscopy, and to examine how the two could best be combined to accomplish these tasks. The Marine Biological Laboratory short courses on Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy in Biology, Medicine, and the Materials Sciences, and the many inquiries I received on video microscopy, supported such an effort, and Kirk Jensen of Plenum Press persuaded me of its worth.

Book Synopsis Acoustically Scanned Image by : Stanford University. Microwave Laboratory
Download or read book Acoustically Scanned Image written by Stanford University. Microwave Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes work on a new type of optical scanning device which makes use of acoustic surface waves to scan an optical image. The device employs a silicon semiconductor as the photodector; the nonlinear interaction of two acoustic surface waves, whose electric fields interact with the silicon is employed in the basic mechanism of detection. Work on the airgap Si-LiNbO3 convolver configuration which is employed in this optical imaging device is described. Described is the theoretical development of the semiconductor convolver theory. Development of the technology of the ZnO on Si convolver configuration for use in the optical imaging device is discussed. A short description is given of a chirp generator, which was constructed for use in transform coding in these types of devices.
