Book Synopsis Fabulous Fossils by : Donald G. Mikulic
Download or read book Fabulous Fossils written by Donald G. Mikulic and published by University of State of New York. This book was released on 2007 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Fabulous Fossils is a timely and significant contribution to the history of science and evolutionary paleontology. It details humanity's interest and developing understanding of trilobites from the recovery of these fossils at 15,000 year-old Paleolithic sites, to the 18th century appreciation that they were arthropod fossils. This volume elaborates on the development of modern trilobite research in Australia and a number of American, European, and Asian countries"--Publisher's description.

Book Synopsis Early Vertebrates by : Philippe Janvier
Download or read book Early Vertebrates written by Philippe Janvier and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 1996 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents our current knowledge of the early vertebrates, which were mainly fish, but included some land vertebrates, and lived 470 to 250 million years ago. It centres on anatomical and phylogenetic questions, but includes information about fossil discovery and preparation, as wellas the analysis of the characteristics from which their relationships may be reconstructed. It addresses critically both old and new problems in the evolution of certain anatomical structures and deals briefly with the animals' way of life, extinction, and former distribution. In addition, the author gives a potted history of the field of vertebrate palaentology and the rise of cladistics, a cmajor methodological revolution in comparative biology. The book is the first in this field to use a cladistic approach. For each major vertebrate group, the reader will find a diagram or relationships, or cladogram, with a selection of characters at each node, and a succinct phlyogenetic classification.

Book Synopsis The Ordovician Earth System by : Stanley Charles Finney
Download or read book The Ordovician Earth System written by Stanley Charles Finney and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ordovician period is a significant chapter in Earth's history that included the great Mid-Ordovician biodiversification event, the Hirnantian glaciation, and long-term greenhouse conditions. Ordovician rocks are widespread on most continents and the recent finalization of a modern chronostratigraphic classification of the Ordovician system now facilitates high-resolution correlations that allow for integrated multidisciplinary research. The diverse papers comprising this volume address orogenesis, paleogeography, climate modeling, sedimentation, biodiversity, and isotopic excursions; together they promote an integrated view of the Ordovician earth system."--Publisher's description.
Book Synopsis Understanding Late Devonian and Permian-Triassic Biotic and Climatic Events by : Jeff Over
Download or read book Understanding Late Devonian and Permian-Triassic Biotic and Climatic Events written by Jeff Over and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-12-02 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Late Devonian and Permian-Triassic intervals are among the most dynamic episodes of Earth history, marked by large secular changes in continental ecosystems, dramatic fluctuations in ocean oxygenation, major phases of biotic turnover, volcanism, bolide impact events, and rapid fluctuations in stable isotope systems and sea level. This volume highlights contributions from a broad range of geological sub-disciplines currently striving to understand these critical intervals of geologically rapid, global-scale changes.* Provides updated, current models for the mid-Late Devonian and Permian-Triassic mass extinction episodes* Highlights several new analytical approaches for developing quantitative datasets* Takes an integrated approach presenting datasets from a broad range of sub-disciplines

Book Synopsis Late Ordovician Brachiopods from the South China Plate and Their Palaeogeographical Significance by : Zhan Ren-Bin
Download or read book Late Ordovician Brachiopods from the South China Plate and Their Palaeogeographical Significance written by Zhan Ren-Bin and published by Blackwell Publishing. This book was released on 1998 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Paper details the highly endemic mid Ashgill brachiopod faunas of the border regions of Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces, east China. These are the only brachiopods of this age known from the South China Palaeoplate. Forty-one taxa are described, including two new genera and seven new species. The brachiopods are illustrated photographically and by line drawings, including several of serial sections. The South China fauna is compared, through faunal affinity analysis, with contemporary faunas from Asia and Australia. It is most similar to that from Kazakhstan, and this provides important biogeographical data to back up plate tectonic models for this region.
