En 2020 se impuso la modalidad remota y virtual, en 2021 la mixta y ahora podremos reencontrarnos en el marco del décimo séptimo seminario internacional. Con regularidad anual, convocamos a investigadores y expertos, nacionales y extranjeros, para que presenten –desde sus disciplinas– sus contribuciones bajo un hilo conductor. Para el XVII seminario anual internacional fueron bienvenidas todas las contribuciones relativas al desarrollo sostenible e integración. Atendieron la convocatoria pública 31 académicos con 24 escritos que fueron sometidos a una rigurosa evaluación por pares arbitrales, quienes recomendaron la publicación de los 18 artículos que componen este libro por capítulos de investigación y que serán defendidos presencialmente en las tres celebraciones del XVII seminario: Bogotá (Colombia), el 19 de octubre; en Quito (Ecuador), el 25 de octubre y en Alicante (España) el 9 de noviembre de 2022.

Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of governance and development in the Mesoamerican Region (MAR), the design and scope of the Plan Puebla Panamá (PPP), its relationship to pre-existing regional organisms and its transformation into Proyecto Mesoamérica. The PPP was introduced as a holistic project that would reverse the cycles of poverty in Mesoamerica. However, the plan incited huge opposition from many groups within Mesoamerica, and throughout its duration few of its objectives were met. The author analyses the plan and describes the regional setting and precursors, as well as the US policy towards the Mesoamerican countries. Using this approach with an analysis of governance in Mesoamerica, this monograph shows a more complete picture of why this ambitious development project did not reach its goals and draws applicable insights to other regions where governance is complex.

The number of entries included has gone up to over 68,000 of which over 9,000 are new or amended. Cross-references from defunct organizations in the previous edition have been deleted, and references (indicated by ex and now) added for organizations which have changed their name since the previous edition. As before, the range of organizations included is broad and only purely local organizations have been excluded. This directory therefore lists official and unofficial organizations, national and international, on all SUbjects: political, economic and social. Acronyms of parent bodies of subsidiary organizations are given where appropriate and equivalencies are used to link acronyms in different languages for the same organization.
