Book Synopsis Regulation of Genome Editing in Human iPS Cells by : Hans-Georg Dederer
Download or read book Regulation of Genome Editing in Human iPS Cells written by Hans-Georg Dederer and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-23 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a concise overview of currently applicable regulatory frameworks of states which are among the world leaders in research and development (R&D) of cell and gene therapies. Developments in genome editing are expected to lead to new possibilities for the treatment of hereditary diseases in humans. The treatment of such often severe but hitherto uncurable diseases can be based on genome-edited induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells). Such treatments constitute combined cell/gene therapies. These therapies need to be governed by a regulatory framework which ensures quality, safety, and efficacy of the relevant therapeutic products. On the other hand, such regulations may retard product approval and impede R&D. Accordingly, national regulations for therapies based on genome-edited iPS cells are an important and, as the case may be, decisive factor for both researchers and industry regarding their decision where to locate their R&D activities. Therefore, regulatory frameworks impact significantly on the competitiveness of states and their economies. This is why a comparative analysis of laws and regulations of different countries matters. Such a comparative legal analysis provides an important insight into regulatory concepts which, in turn, may inspire adjustments of, or amendments to, domestic legal regimes. For this purpose, experts present country reports on France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, and the USA. The reports on France and Germany also refer to the parameters and implications arising from pertinent EU law. This contributed volume is aimed at researchers, but also at, e.g., legal scholars, lawmakers, regulators, and political decision makers.

Download or read book Genome Annotation written by Jung Soh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of individualized medicine, advanced crops, and new and sustainable energy sources requires thoroughly annotated genomic information and the integration of this information into a coherent model. A thorough overview of this field, Genome Annotation explores automated genome analysis and annotation from its origins to the challenges of next-generation sequencing data analysis. The book initially takes you through the last 16 years since the sequencing of the first complete microbial genome. It explains how current analysis strategies were developed, including sequencing strategies, statistical models, and early annotation systems. The authors then present visualization techniques for displaying integrated results as well as state-of-the-art annotation tools, including MAGPIE, Ensembl, Bluejay, and Galaxy. They also discuss the pipelines for the analysis and annotation of complex, next-generation DNA sequencing data. Each chapter includes references and pointers to relevant tools. As very few existing genome annotation pipelines are capable of dealing with the staggering amount of DNA sequence information, new strategies must be developed to accommodate the needs of today’s genome researchers. Covering this topic in detail, Genome Annotation provides you with the foundation and tools to tackle this challenging and evolving area. Suitable for both students new to the field and professionals who deal with genomic information in their work, the book offers two genome annotation systems on an accompanying CD-ROM.

Book Synopsis Genome Duplication by : Melvin DePamphilis
Download or read book Genome Duplication written by Melvin DePamphilis and published by Garland Science. This book was released on 2010-10-06 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genome Duplication provides a comprehensive and readable overview of the underlying principles that govern genome duplication in all forms of life, from the simplest cell to the most complex multicellular organism. Using examples from the three domains of life - bacteria, archaea, and eukarya - Genome Duplication shows how all living organisms store their genome as DNA and how they all use the same evolutionary-conserved mechanism to duplicate it: semi-conservative DNA replication by the replication fork. The text shows how the replication fork determines where organisms begin genome duplication, how they produce a complete copy of their genome each time a cell divides, and how they link genome duplication to cell division. Genome Duplication explains how mistakes in genome duplication are associated with genetic disorders and cancer, and how understanding genome duplication, its regulation, and how the mechanisms differ between different forms of life, is critical to the understanding and treatment of human disease.

Book Synopsis The Spruce Genome by : Ilga M. Porth
Download or read book The Spruce Genome written by Ilga M. Porth and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers comprehensive information on the genomics of spruces (Picea spp.), naturally abundant conifer tree species that are widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to their tremendous ecological and economic importance, the management of forest genetic resources has chiefly focused on conservation and tree improvement. A draft genome sequence of the 20-gigabase Norway spruce genome was published in the journal Nature in 2013. Continuous efforts to improve the spruce genome assembly are underway, but are hindered by the inherent characteristics of conifer genomes: high amounts of repetitive sequences (introns and transposable elements) in the genome and large gene family expansions with regards to abiotic stress, secondary metabolism and spruces' defense responses to pathogens and herbivory. This book presents the latest information on the status of genome assemblies, provides detailed insights into transposable elements and methylation patterns, and highlights the extensive genomic resources available for inferring population genomics and climate adaptation, as well as emerging genomics tools for tree improvement programs. In addition, this volume features whole-genome comparisons among conifer species, and demonstrates how functional genomics can be used to improve gene function annotations. The book closes with an outlook on emerging fields of research in spruce genomics.

Book Synopsis Regulation of Genome Editing in Plant Biotechnology by : Hans-Georg Dederer
Download or read book Regulation of Genome Editing in Plant Biotechnology written by Hans-Georg Dederer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides in-depth insights into the regulatory frameworks of five countries and the EU concerning the regulation of genome edited plants. The country reports form the basis for a comparative analysis of the various national regulations governing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in general and genome edited plants in particular, as well as the underlying regulatory approaches. The reports, which focus on the regulatory status quo of genome edited plants in Argentina, Australia, Canada, the EU, Japan and the USA, were written by distinguished experts following a uniform structure. On this basis, the legal frameworks are compared in order to foster a rational assessment of which approaches could be drawn upon to adjust, or to completely realign, the current EU regime for GMOs. In addition, a separate chapter identifies potential best practices for the regulation of plants derived from genome editing.
