Viele verschiedene Facetten von Heterogenität finden sich zwischen Individuen, Familien, Schulen, Unternehmen und vielen weiteren Mikroebenen der Gesellschaft und der Gesellschaft als Ganzes wieder. Im pädagogischen Kontext meint Heterogenität die Verschiedenheit von Schülern im Hinblick auf ein oder mehrere Merkmale, wobei die Merkmale aus verschiedenen Dimensionen von Heterogenität entstammen, sodass man in Relation der institutionalisierten Bildung grundsätzlich "institutionsinterne von –externen Kategorien" unterscheidet. Schüler in jeder Klassenstufe differieren sich in den verschiedenen Heterogenitätsdimensionen bezüglich eines oder mehrerer Aspekte und in den jeweiligen Schulfächern existieren weitere Heterogenitätsaspekte, die durch den jeweiligen Unterricht unmittelbar beeinflusst oder modifiziert werden können.

Die wissenschaftliche Arbeit erforscht diese sowohl in vorwiegend mathematikdidaktischer Literatur, als auch in der Unterrichtspraxis und stellt in einem abschließenden Resümee Handlungsprämissen für die Zukunft eines produktiven Umgangs mit Vielfalt im Mathematikunterricht heraus. Mit Blick auf die didaktisch-methodische Planung und Gestaltung des Mathematikunterrichts wurden dafür problemzentrierte Leitfadeninterviews mit vier Lehrerinnen unterschiedlicher Schulen durchgeführt und anschließend mithilfe des Verfahrens der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse ausgewertet. Darin zeigte sich, dass der Fokus in Literatur und Interviews auf der Leistungsheterogenität liegt und andere Heterogenitätsdimensionen dahinter zurückbleiben. Die Einstellungen der Lehrerinnen bzgl. dieser Vielfalt sind zwar grundlegend positiv, unterscheiden sich aber dennoch voneinander. Für einen gelingenden Umgang mit Heterogenität werden in Theorie und Praxis Differenzierungs- und Individualisierungsmaßnahmen erläutert. In der Unterrichtsgestaltung überwiegen pädagogische, binnendifferenzierende Maßnahmen statt der in der mathematikdidaktischen Literatur populären fachbezogenen natürlichen Differenzierung. In den Interviews war weiterhin eine Kategorisierung der Lernenden entsprechend ihrer Leistungsniveaus und eine weite Spanne von eher schüler*innenzentrierten zu lehrer*innenzentriertem Unterricht und individualisierendem zu sozialem Lernen erkennbar. Auch Diskrepanzen zwischen den Ebenen der Lehrkraft, dem Schulsystem und der Bildungspolitik wurden sichtbar. Um im Mathematikunterricht der Grundschule produktiv mit Vielfalt umgehen zu können, braucht es eine kritische Reflexion der Lehrer*inneneinstellungen und der Unterrichtsplanung und -gestaltung in Hinblick auf verschiedene Heterogenitätsdimensionen der Schüler*innen, aber auch ein Hinterfragen des Schulsystems an sich.

Through Bodin's work, Ann Blair explores the fascinating and previously little known world of late Renaissance natural philosophy. A study of the text, of its context (through comparisons with different genres of natural philosophy and works entitled "Theater"), and of its reception in the seventeenth century highlights above all the religious motivations, encyclopedic ambitions, and bookish methods characterizing much of late Renaissance science. Amid the religious crisis and the explosion of knowledge in the late sixteenth century, natural philosophy offered grounds for consensus across religious divides and a vast collection of useful and pleasant information, admired for both its order and its variety. The commonplace book provided a versatile tool for gathering and sorting bits of natural knowledge garnered from a wide array of bookish sources and "experience,'' fueling a vigorous cycle of text-based science at least through the mid-seventeenth century. The miscellaneous genre of the problemata into which Bodin's text was adapted attracted more popular audiences until even later. To place the Theatrum in its cultural context is also to reveal more clearly the peculiarities of Bodin's philosophical project in this, its final expression. He combined arguments from reason, experience, and authority to undermine traditional Aristotelian conclusions and proposed instead a natural philosophy based on pious, often biblical, solutions. Originally published in 1997. Schechner Genuth delineates the evolution of people's understanding of comets, showing that until the seventeenth century, all members of society dreaded comets as heaven-sent portents of plague, flood, civil disorder, and other calamities. Although these beliefs became spurned as "vulgar superstitions" by the elite before the end of the century, she shows that they were nonetheless absorbed into the science of Newton and Halley, contributing to their theories in subtle yet profound ways. Schechner weaves together many strands of thought: views of comets as signs and causes of social and physical changes; vigilance toward monsters and prodigies as indicators of God's will; Christian eschatology; scientific interpretations of Scripture; astrological prognostication and political propaganda; and celestial mechanics and astrophysics. This exploration of the interplay between high and low beliefs about nature leads to the conclusion that popular and long-held views of comets as divine signs were not overturned by astronomical discoveries. Indeed, they became part of the foundation on which modern cosmology was built.
