Einleitung Wird in einem alltäglichen Gespräch das Wort Kultur erwähnt, so glaubt jeder zu wissen, was damit gemeint ist. Doch eine genaue Definition, die weder zu viele noch zu wenige Aspekte berücksichtigt, ist nicht einfach zu formulieren. Dies beweisen unter anderem die vielen unterschiedlichen kulturtheoretischen Ansätze, die in der Literatur zu finden sind. Doch auch die Schwierigkeit, das Phänomen Kultur für sich selbst zu beschreiben, ist bezeichnend für die Vagheit des Begriffs. Etymologisch gesehen entstand das Wort Kultur aus dem lateinischen "cultus", was soviel heißt wie Bearbeitung, Erziehung oder auch Lebensweise . Allgemein bezeichnet Kultur die Gesamtheit des vom Menschen Geschaffenen. Doch die Fülle an spezifischeren Theorien bietet sehr viele verschiedene Ansätze, abhängig von der jeweiligen Epoche, dem Wissenschaftscharakter und dem Kontext. Im Folgenden soll nun versucht werden, den Begriff Kultur im Kontext des Faches Deutsch als Fremdsprache zu vertiefen. Basis hierfür ist die von Claus Altmayer verfasste Abhandlung "Zum Kulturbegriff des Faches Deutsch als Fremdsprache", in welcher er verschiedene kulturtheoretische Ansätze vorstellt.

Sie bezieht sich dabei insbesondere auf das Fach Deutsch als Fremdsprache, beansprucht aber gleichwohl eine zumindest analoge Gültigkeit auch für andere Fremdsprachenwissenschaften. Die Kulturwissenschaft, wie sie hier entworfen und in einer exemplarischen Analyse vorgeführt wird, versteht sich nicht als wissenschaftliche (Sub-, Teil-)Disziplin, sondern als transdisziplinäre Forschungspraxis, für die nicht primär der Forschungsgegenstand, sondern das erkenntnisleitende Interesse an der Lösung praktischer Problemstellungen konstitutiv ist. Konsequenterweise geht die Darstellung daher von den mit der 'Landeskunde' verbundenen praktischen Problemstellungen aus und expliziert von hier aus das dominante Erkenntnisinteresse landeskundlich-kulturwissenschaftlicher Forschung, nämlich substanzielle Beiträge zu leisten zur Entwicklung einer interkulturellen Verstehenskompetenz im Rahmen des Deutsch als Fremdsprache-Unterrichts. In kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit der aktuellen kulturtheoretischen Diskussion wird ein einerseits hinreichend komplexer, andererseits aber auch noch praktikabler Begriff von 'Kultur' entwickelt, der sich insbesondere auf die kulturellen Deutungsmuster bezieht, von denen in sprachlich-kommunikativen Handlungen ('Texten') in der Regel implizit Gebrauch gemacht wird und die das Verstehen maßgeblich beeinflussen, aber auch behindern können. Die Aufgabe der Kulturwissenschaft besteht daher vorrangig darin, diese in Texte eingehenden Deutungsmuster zu rekonstruieren und für Lerner des Deutschen als Fremdsprache nachvollziehbar zu machen, indem sie ein komplexes Geflecht von Texten herstellt, in denen die fraglichen Deutungsmuster implizit verwendet und/oder expliziert und selbst gedeutet werden. Auf dieses Verfahren der Herstellung eines komplexen Textgeflechts, das im Schlusskapitel anhand einer Plakatserie zum Thema 'Einbürgerung' exemplarisch vorgeführt wird, bezieht sich die im Titel der Arbeit verwendete Metapher 'Kultur als Hypertext'.
