This book was released on 2001 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the final report of a task force formed to dialogue with the public and investigate the role of schools in Saskatchewan society. Section 1 contains background to the task force study, including discussion of the factors that are changing the role of the school today (such as special needs education, demographic shifts, the information society, child poverty, changes in family structure, rural depopulation, & student behaviour) and what those factors mean from the teacher's perspective. It also reviews historical changes in the role of the school; the function, purpose, & power of schools; and the need for vision, will, and resources to equip schools to play their role in a new society. Section 2 presents task force recommendations in four sections addressing a different aspect of a new vision for Saskatchewan schools: structure, roles, & partnerships; programs; support (facilities & funding) for the vision; and implementation. The recommendations are also listed in a summary at the end. Appendices include budget estimates related to the recommendations and a glossary.

This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Democratizing educational access and building capacity in developing countries and amongst indigenous peoples in developed countries may be elusive but are hopeful goals. Many developing countries are striving to reengineer their incoherent education systems at a time when they are most vulnerable, particularly with susceptibility to natural disasters, political unrests, and economic instabilities (UNESCO, 2007). Similarly, indigenous peoples in developed countries are seeking more control over education as they consider the long?term effects of educational policies that have been forced on them. Research on education and social change in developing countries has a long history (Glewwe, 2002; Hanushek, 1995; Sider, 2011). However, there is limited research on educational capacity?building in developing countries such as Kenya, Honduras, Haiti, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Peru, China, and Thailand. Further, the educational frameworks by which Indigenous peoples (M?ori, Canada’s First Nations, and American Indian/Alaska Natives) have been educated have some significant similarities to those encountered in developing countries. The compilation of chapters illuminates research and collaborative initiatives between the authors and local leaders in developing countries’ and Indigenous peoples in developed countries’ efforts to solve the complexity of social inequities through educational access and quality learning. The authors draw on theoretical lens, knowledge bases, and strategies, and identify trends and developments to provide the scope of educational improvement in a globalization context (Brooks & Normore, 2010; Jean?Marie, Normore & Brooks, 2009).

Book excerpt: Organized by region, this edited collection provides a comprehensive look at how teacher education has evolved regionally and nationally in Canada. Offering an in-depth look at specific provinces and territories, this volume contextualizes the landscape of Canadian public education and the place of teacher education within it. Shedding light on the ways Canadian teacher education was shaped by and in turn influenced its environment, contributors evaluate the current state of education and consider themes, tensions, and historical developments, presenting a view of teacher education that encompasses both its future and its past. A significant contribution to the field of curriculum history, this book offers a benchmark for conversations about the purposes, means, and ends of teacher education in Canada.

Book excerpt: This volume highlights work being done in qualitative inquiry through a variety of critical lenses such as new materialism, queer theory, and narrative inquiry. Contributors ranging from seasoned academics to emerging scholars attend to questions of ontology and epistemology, providing, in the process, insights that any qualitative researcher interested in the state of the field would find of value. The authors: re-think taken-for-granted paradigms, frameworks, methodologies, ethics, and politics; demonstrate major shifts in qualitative inquiry, and point readers in new and exciting directions; advocate for a critical qualitative inquiry that addresses social justice, decolonization, and the politics of research; present plenary addresses and other key original papers from the 2015 International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry. This title is sponsored by the International Association of Qualitative Inquiry, a major new international organization which sponsors an annual Congress.
