Book excerpt: Meet Andrew Bowry, an English journalist and the son of a priest, whose curiosity of life in the jungle has been with him since being a child. Sent to live in New Amsterdam at a young age, Andrew has grown up surrounded by different races and always loved seeing how other people lived but never in his wildest dreams, did he think he'd get an invite to stay in Supenaam and write a biography on Peter D'Abrue, who was his hero! But, Andrew quickly realises it's not going to be easy. Peter D'Abrue is a very private man and not one for opening up. So Andrew hatches a plan to get to the heart of this amazing man and find out what makes him tick. But, it's not just Peter's heart that begins to open up. The more time Andrew spends in Supenaam, the more he learns about his own heart and his own hopes and dreams. But can he survive their way of life?
Download or read book Guyana written by Kirk Smock and published by Bradt Travel Guides. This book was released on 2008 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South America's often overlooked English-speaking country lies far off the well-trodden tourist path. Guyana is the ideal destination for the discerning visitor seeking adventure. Within its vast interior, the Guiana Shield (one of the four pristine tropical rainforests left in the world) converges with the Amazon Basin, creating a unique geography composed of coastal waters, mangroves, marshes, savannas, mountains and tropical rainforests.Bordered by Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname and the Atlantic Ocean, the lively locals - a melting pot of East Indian and African descendants, peppered with Chinese, Europeans and Amerindians - create a culture decidedly more Caribbean than Latin.

Book Synopsis Bibliography of Natural History Travel Narratives by : Anne S. Troelstra
Download or read book Bibliography of Natural History Travel Narratives written by Anne S. Troelstra and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-06-01 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anne Troelstra’s fine bibliography is an outstanding and ground-breaking work. He has provided the academic world with a long-needed bibliographical record of human endeavour in the field of the natural sciences. The travel narratives listed here encompass all aspects of the natural world in every part of the globe, but are especially concerned with its fauna, flora and fossil remains. Such eyewitness accounts have always fascinated their readers, but they were never written solely for entertainment: fragmentary though they often are, these narratives of travel and exploration are of immense importance for our scientific understanding of life on earth, providing us with a window on an ever changing, and often vanishing, natural world. Without such records of the past we could not track, document or understand the significance of changes that are so important for the study of zoogeography. With this book Troelstra gives us a superb overview of natural history travel narratives. The well over four thousand detailed entries, ranging over four centuries and all major western European languages, are drawn from a wide range of sources and include both printed books and periodical contributions. While no subject bibliography by a single author can attain absolute completeness, Troelstra’s work is comprehensive to a truly remarkable degree. The entries are arranged alphabetically by author and chronologically, by the year of first publication, under the author’s name. A brief biography, with the scope and range of their work, is given for each author; every title is set in context, the contents – including illustrations – are described and all known editions and translations are cited. In addition, there is a geographical index that cross refers between authors and the regions visited, and a full list of the bibliographical and biographical sources used in compiling the bibliography.

Book excerpt: A transcription of a text published in British Guiana in 1948 listing 4351 individuals together with their occupations and some details of their accomplishments. This directory must have been very useful at the time of its original publication, but after nearly 70 years is of little if any practical commercial value. It has been reproduced purely for the purpose of informing current and future generations in Guyana of their ancestors and their accomplishments. From a genealogical perspective therefore, it may serve some useful purpose.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my life I have seen the horrors that happen in this world and have on occasions been present when they happened. My experiences of life give me the qualification to write my book. I have written this book for a very young boy who is very severely handicapped and who is gaining more knowledge every day. He is an inspiration to all disabled people. He also is having an adventure. I love him to bits At the moment I am retired after spending a long time with the forces and security service, so have seen a little bit of action. Again enough qualifications to write my book. The forces even gave me a few medals, which are in a case on my wall. It is a shame they have to be taken down to be cleaned. The silver ones seem to tarnish the worse. I live with my wife Ann and we spend our time between the UK and Italy.
