Book Synopsis Inclusive Sustainability by : Ottavio Quirico
Download or read book Inclusive Sustainability written by Ottavio Quirico and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of the third-generation concept of ‘inclusive sustainability’, the volume explores the architecture of global disability governance and its degree of harmonisation. The book integrates socio-cultural, economic, political and legal analyses from an international and comparative perspective. The first part of the volume outlines a tripartite systematisation of disability rights for States and non-state persons. In light of essential economic considerations, the second part explores the relationship between disability and specific fundamental rights and regimes, particularly the rights to life, health, education, work and participation. The third part takes an institutional approach and focuses on the way in which the UN and regional organisations regulate disability (rectius, different ability).
Book Synopsis Implementing International Disability Law in the European Union by : Ottavio Quirico
Download or read book Implementing International Disability Law in the European Union written by Ottavio Quirico and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-28 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the implementation of disability rights and duties in the European Union, aiming to understand its functioning and explore ways forward through a critical analysis of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) within the context of international regulation. Along the lines of the integration of fundamental rights within the common market, the EU has indeed progressively adopted meaningful regulation to advance disability rights, which are now essentially shaped by the CRPD. The research considers the interaction between law and policy at the international, EU and Member States’ level, focusing on three essential elements, including the sources of disability law, institutional mechanisms and substantive regulation. Grounded in the distinction between primary rules on law-making and secondary norms on enforcement, the analysis unfolds against the background of the ‘twin’ transitions on sustainability and digitalisation and encompasses the Council of Europe system, particularly in the light of the foreseeable accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights. Arguably, following the progressive development it has facilitated in other regulatory areas, the Court of Justice of the European Union can provide a decisive contribution to advancing inclusiveness for people with disabilities in the Union. The book is a useful resource for practitioners, policymakers, academics, students, researchers and anyone interested in EU and international disability law and politics.

Book Synopsis Planning in the UK by : Andy Thornley
Download or read book Planning in the UK written by Andy Thornley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003:The advent of the Labour government in 1997 provoked major change in the political landscape of the UK. Priorities changed and different themes moved to the top of the agenda such as local democracy, community, transparency, sustainability and co-ordinated or 'joined-up' thinking. Many of the new priorities, such as community empowerment, involved a reappraisal of the purpose and procedures of planning, while others changed the legislative and institutional frame within which planning operated. This indispensable volume traces and analyzes the implications for planning created by this political shift. Presenting an overview of the general debates on contemporary UK planning, the book proceeds to identify four major areas as key themes for planning in the third millennium. These are: the new institutional context; ensuring social inclusion and participation; promoting sustainability; and the debate over building at higher densities on Brownfield sites. Illustrated with in-depth case studies, the book provides a timely and important examination of the current state of planning in the UK and suggests best-case scenarios for the future.

Book excerpt: Social work and social care continue to face an unprecedented period of challenge and uncertainty, requiring the development of leadership capabilities at every level of the workforce as well as in the community. This critical and reflexive book looks closely at the pivotal but demanding role that leadership and management play in promoting social work and social care. It focuses particularly on the value that is potentially created when the human relationships between people delivering and people using public services are effective, and the conditions are present to nourish confidence, inspire self-esteem, unlock potential and erode inequality. Aimed at new, aspiring and experienced managers, and senior practitioners, it draws on a range of disciplines not typically found in social work and social care and encourages readers to broaden their examination of leadership in areas such as the design of organisations, the role of service users in leadership practice and the phenomena of dignity within the context of organisational culture and dignity.

Book Synopsis INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE by : Dr. Manas Behera
Download or read book INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE written by Dr. Manas Behera and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-12-13 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive Development and Good governance have already occupied the centre-stage of Policy discourses today. The present book studies the functioning of the Panchayati Raj System in the context of good governance and inclusive development. The empirical research that the book undertakes neither romanticises nor rejects the PRIs. It analyses the power equations, struggles and various forms of marginalisation and deprivation in the rural areas . The economically exploited and the socially deprived have a stake in the democratic space created by the PRIs. The silent revolution brought about by the PRIs challenges the unequal power structure and relations in many ways. The project of Inclusive Development and of Good Governance is simply not possible without meaningful and effective participation of the marginalised in the democratic process through the PRIs. The Ruling class and their allies in rural areas are active in preventing the marginalised from occupying the democratic spaces in real terms. The study of this dynamics of rural areas is crucial to developing policies in favour of the marginalised. The Neo-liberal paradigm of development, with its centralising character, defeats inclusive development through democratic decentralisation. What this book sets out to advocate is deepening of democracy in rural areas.
