Download or read book Jóvenes. Entre el palimpsesto y el hipertexto written by Jesús Martín-Barbero and published by NED Ediciones. This book was released on 2017-10 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is our sixth Small Wars Journal—El Centro anthology, covering writings published between 2016 and 2017. The theme of this anthology pertains to the rise of the narcostate (mafia states) as a result of the collusion between criminal organizations and political elites—essentially authoritarian regime members, corrupted plutocrats, and other powerful societal elements. The cover image of the mass demonstration concerning the disappearance of the forty-three Ayotzinapa Teachers’ College students held at Mexico City’s Zócalo Plaza in November 2014 provides an archetype of this anthology’s theme. This anthology includes the following special essays—Preface: “New Wars” and State Transformation by Robert Muggah, Igarapé Institute; Foreword: Crime and State-Making by Vanda Felbab-Brown, The Brookings Institution; Postscript: Crime, Drugs, Terror, and Money: Time for Hybrids by Alain Bauer, CNAM Paris; and Afterword: The Rise of the Oligarchs by Col. Robert Killebrew, US Army (Ret.). Dave Dilegge (SWJ, Editor-in-Chief)

Book Synopsis Evidentiality and Epistemic Modality in Spanish (Semi-)Auxiliaries by : Bert Cornillie
Download or read book Evidentiality and Epistemic Modality in Spanish (Semi-)Auxiliaries written by Bert Cornillie and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-27 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the Spanish evidential semi-auxiliaries parecer and resultar, the modal constructions with amenazar and prometer, and the modal auxiliaries poder, deber and tener que. These verbs have never been considered together in a global approach that transcends the classical "verbal periphrases" model. The book proposes a cognitive-functional account of evidentiality and modality in Spanish with special attention to subjectivity and grounding. The theoretical reflection relies on empirical evidence of two sorts: synchronic and diachronic corpus-analyses alternate with tests that measure the semantic and pragmatic compatibility of the evidential and epistemic constructions with specific sentences. Following the assumption that linguistic forms are determined by their meaning, the array of constructions that characterizes the different verbs justifies their grouping in three pairs of (semi-)auxiliaries: parecer vs resultar, amenazar vs prometer and poder vs deber/tener que. The distributional differences observed in the corpus are further shown to correlate with different degrees of grammaticalization. Primarily intended for scholars working in the field of Spanish functional linguistics, the monograph is also relevant for grammaticalization studies and for cognitive-semantic research at large. Given its combined theoretical and applied character, the volume is also of interest to anyone concerned with syntactic processes, lexical semantics or the wider area of discourse analysis and pragmatics.

The launch of a number of national translation projects, policies and awards in a number of Arab countries, together with the increasing translation from Arabic in a wide range of subject areas outside the Arab World – especially in the aftermath of the Arab Spring – have complicated and diversified the dynamics of the translation industry involving Arabic. The Routledge Handbook of Arabic Translation seeks to explicate Arabic translation practice, pedagogy and scholarship, with the aim of producing a state-of-the-art reference book that maps out these areas and meets the pedagogical and research needs of advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as active researchers.

Book Synopsis Motley Mumbling by : Thomas J. Hally
Download or read book Motley Mumbling written by Thomas J. Hally and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-01-31 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both funny and serious in an ironically oxymoronic way, Motley Mumbling: Romance Poetry and Prose offers a diverse collection of poetry and prose from Thomas J. Hally that seeks to challenge you to look at the world in a new way. This compilation, intended for lovers, expresses itself in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Although its pages contain some erotic passion, it focuses primarily on the romance in the essence of the languages themselvesmost notably in the three Romance languages featured in the collection, which take their own center stage. Intelligently written with beautifully picturesque metaphors, surprisingly direct and exact analogies, and other twists of the pen, the poetry and short stories included here reveal author Thomas Hallys desire to share beauty, love, adventure, anger, justice, and a sense of universal belonging that flourishes in Motley Mumbling. The reader is in for a treat with this eclectic collection, for it contains something for everyone. The beauty of this book is in the various forms of literature covering various aspects of life, spoken in different voices, and presented in different languages. The challenge facing the reader is to reconcile Motleys various pieces to the same individual; this is not a simple task, and nor is Hally, and inherently nor are we, but we celebrate our shared humanity when such reconciliation occurs.
