Book excerpt: These volumes contain the edited documents presented at the NATO-Sponsored Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Partial Pre8tre88ing, from Theory to Practice, held at the CEBTP Research Centre of Saint-Remy-Ies-Chevreuse, France, June 18-22, 1984. The workshop was a direct extension of the International Symposium on Nonlinearity and Continuity in Pre8tre88ed Concrete, organized by the editor at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, July 4-6, 1983. The organization of the NATO-ARW on Partial Prestressing was prompted by the need to explain and reduce the wide dirrerences of expert oph:iipnĀ· on the subject, which make more difficult the accep tance of partial prestressing by the profession at large. Specifically, the workshop attempted to: - produce a more unified picture of partial presetressing, by con fronting and, where possible, reconciling some conflicting American and European views on this subject; - bring theoretical advances on partial prestressing within the grasp of engineering practice; - provide the required background for developing some guidelines on the use of partial prestressing, in agreement with existing structural concrete standards. The five themes selected for the workshop agenda were: (1) Problems of Partially Prestressed Concrete (PPC). (2) Partially Prestressed Concrete Members: Static Loading. (3) PPC Members: Repeated and Dynamic Loadings. (4) Continuity in Partially Prestressed Concrete. (5) Practice of Partial Prestressing.
Book Synopsis Prestressed Concrete by : N. Rajagopalan
Download or read book Prestressed Concrete written by N. Rajagopalan and published by Alpha Science Int'l Ltd.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals fundamentally with the basic philosophy, principles and the application of prestressing in structural elements. It also covers the detailed engineering of the structural elements with prestressing forces in terms of analysis and design. Different systems of prestressing, losses in prestressing and evaluation of capacity of prestressed concrete sections in flexure, shear and torsion, the force flow due to prestressing at anchorage zones, the time dependent effects due to creep and shrinkage of materials are explained. The design of prestressed concrete elements is covered with a holistic concept. In case of indeterminate structures, the effect of prestressing while satisfying the compatibility conditions has been clearly explained. The necessary philosophy and the design procedures of partially prestressed elements have been specifically dealt with. Accepted National and International Code provisions for design of prestressed concrete elements under the effect of the various loads have been elaborately discussed with worked out examples.
Book Synopsis A New Model for Computing Deflection of Partially Prestressed Concrete Beams Under Static and Cyclic Fatigue Loading by : Ali Salah Alameh

This book was released on 1988 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to evaluate the deflection of partially prestressed concrete beams (PPC) under static and cyclic fatigue loading covering the boundaries of fully prestressed and fully reinforced. Two analytical models were developed, one model for predicting deflection under service monotonic loading and the other for predicting deflection under cyclic fatigue loading. Both models were derived based on interaction between the tensile steel and concrete through bond and slip of reinforcement between the cracked sections. The developed models were compared With extensive experimental results and showed to reproduce, within a good degree of accuracy, load-deflection response of PPC beams tested under both static and cyclic fatigue loading-Several conclusions were drawn on the basis of analytical results, verified by experimental evidence. In designing prestressed concrete beams for fatigue loading, careful consideration should be given to the increase in reinforcement stresses induced by cyclic creep of concrete. This phenomenon is particularly important in cracked fully prestressed beams where the stresses were observed to increase significantly with number of cycles. This phenomenon does not only reduce the fatigue life of the beams but also results in a significant increase in their deflections under cyclic loading. The reinforcing steel in the partially prestressed beams plays a major role in reducing the phenomenon of steel stress increase under cyclic loading which results in enhancing their fatigue life and deformation performance! cracking, deflection,). It was found also, that parameters, such as bond strength, crack spacings and bar diameters have little influence on the service load-deflection response post cracking indicating that the contribution of the uncracked regions of the concrete member to its overall flexural rigidity can be practically neglected.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Strength and Deformation for Bonded Prestressed Concrete Beams by : Leslie Bakar
Download or read book Analysis of Strength and Deformation for Bonded Prestressed Concrete Beams written by Leslie Bakar and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents an analytical study of the strength and deformation of bonded prestressed beams with rectangular cross-sections. The beams were analyzed for strength and deformation using each of six stress blocks. The results obtained using each stress block were compared with those obtained from tests and also those derived using the other stress blocks. For the two-point loaded beams, the correlation between the theoretical moment-curvature relationship and that derived from strain measurements in the tests was good, except at the stage of loading just beyond cracking. The moment-curvature relationship for the one-point loaded beams could not be predicted accurately. The ultimate moment could be predicted but there were large discrepancies between the predicted and measured ultimate curvatures mainly because of unbonding of the reinforcement. These discrepancies were even more pronounced on the shorter one-point loaded beams. In general, for the two-point loaded beams, there was better agreement between the theoretical and measured load-deflection curve because the beams had a substantial portion of their length subjected to a constant moment as compared to that for the one- point loaded beams. The closest approximations to the test curves were obtained using a Jensen type stress block. Using Hognestad's stress block, the derived curves were also close to the test curves but were slightly more conservative than those obtained using Jensen's stress block.
