Book Synopsis Solved and Unsolved Problems in Number Theory by : Daniel Shanks
Download or read book Solved and Unsolved Problems in Number Theory written by Daniel Shanks and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-01-24 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of three problems, perfect numbers, periodic decimals, and Pythagorean numbers, has given rise to much of elementary number theory. In this book, Daniel Shanks, past editor of Mathematics of Computation, shows how each result leads to further results and conjectures. The outcome is a most exciting and unusual treatment. This edition contains a new chapter presenting research done between 1962 and 1978, emphasizing results that were achieved with the help of computers.

Book Synopsis The Math Encyclopedia of Smarandache type Notions by : Marius Coman
Download or read book The Math Encyclopedia of Smarandache type Notions written by Marius Coman and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the works of Florentin Smarandache have been written a lot of books (he himself wrote dozens of books and articles regarding math, physics, literature, philosophy). Being a globally recognized personality in both mathematics (there are countless functions and concepts that bear his name) and literature, it is natural that the volume of writings about his research is huge. What we try to do with this encyclopedia is to gather together as much as we can both from Smarandache’s mathematical work and the works of many mathematicians around the world inspired by the Smarandache notions. We structured this book using numbered Definitions, Theorems, Conjectures, Notes and Comments, in order to facilitate an easier reading but also to facilitate references to a specific paragraph. We divided the Bibliography in two parts, Writings by Florentin Smarandache (indexed by the name of books and articles) and Writings on Smarandache notions (indexed by the name of authors). We treated, in this book, about 130 Smarandache type sequences, about 50 Smarandache type functions and many solved or open problems of number theory. We also have, at the end of this book, a proposal for a new Smarandache type notion, id est the concept of “a set of Smarandache-Coman divisors of order k of a composite positive integer n with m prime factors”, notion that seems to have promising applications, at a first glance at least in the study of absolute and relative Fermat pseudoprimes, Carmichael numbers and Poulet numbers. This encyclopedia is both for researchers that will have on hand a tool that will help them “navigate” in the universe of Smarandache type notions and for young math enthusiasts: many of them will be attached by this wonderful branch of mathematics, number theory, reading the works of Florentin Smarandache.

Download or read book Ramsey Theory written by Xiaodong Xu and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key problems and conjectures have played an important role in promoting the development of Ramsey theory, a field where great progress has been made during the past two decades, with some old problems solved and many new problems proposed. The present book will be helpful to readers who wish to learn about interesting problems in Ramsey theory, to see how they are interconnected, and then to study them in depth. This book is the first problem book of such scope in Ramsey theory. Many unsolved problems, conjectures and related partial results in Ramsey theory are presented, in areas such as extremal graph theory, additive number theory, discrete geometry, functional analysis, algorithm design, and in other areas. Most presented problems are easy to understand, but they may be difficult to solve. They can be appreciated on many levels and by a wide readership, ranging from undergraduate students majoring in mathematics to research mathematicians. This collection is an essential reference for mathematicians working in combinatorics and number theory, as well as for computer scientists studying algorithms. Contents Some definitions and notations Ramsey theory Bi-color diagonal classical Ramsey numbers Paley graphs and lower bounds for R(k, k) Bi-color off-diagonal classical Ramsey numbers Multicolor classical Ramsey numbers Generalized Ramsey numbers Folkman numbers The Erdős–Hajnal conjecture Other Ramsey-type problems in graph theory On van der Waerden numbers and Szemeredi’s theorem More problems of Ramsey type in additive number theory Sidon–Ramsey numbers Games in Ramsey theory Local Ramsey theory Set-coloring Ramsey theory Other problems and conjectures

This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout this book, we discuss some open problems in various branches of science, including mathematics, theoretical physics, astrophysics, geophysics etc. It is of our hope that some of the problems discussed in this book will find their place either in theoretical exploration or further experiments, while some parts of these problems may be found useful for scholarly stimulation. The present book is also intended for young physics and mathematics fellows who will perhaps find the unsolved problems described here are at least worth pondering. If this book provides only a few highlights of plausible solutions, it is merely to keep the fun of readers in discovering the answers by themselves. Bon voyage!
