Decision Power is the first guide to show you how to balance thought and feeling--the mind and the heart--to make sound decisions that also satisfy your most deep-seated desires. Its tested approaches and practical tools enable you to: evaluate every decision so that you clearly define the problem and address the real issues; develop feasible alternatives that all reflect your goals and values; make tradeoffs you can live with when you have to choose between two or more goals pulling you in different directions; overcome doubts, setbacks, or obstacles that at first appear overwhelming; trust yourself to make the right choice and gain support from family and friends for your decisions. You'll find 12 proven decision-making methods in all, that work in concert to help you access your feelings ... sharpen your problem-solving skills ... and increase your resourcefulness, inner strength, and confidence. Presented in the form of a checklist, this unique tool allows you to "test" a decision before it's implemented ... refine or revise it if you're not totally satisfied, or if new information or events change the picture. By following the step-by-step approach laid out in Decision Power, you'll never again follow a course of action that seems well-thought-out but fails to meet your underlying needs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introducing the first book in a powerful new series, The Tarcher Master Mind Editions: Essential Books of Inspiration, Instruction, and Motivation. What mind can conceive, man can achieve. Our decisions impact every area of our lives. Making better decisions means living a better life. But how can we develop the habit of making great decisions? Every noteworthy achievement the world has ever seen was born with a single thought; and every great man who ever lived has been a man of decision. Raymond Charles Barker's The Power of Decision reveals this principle of success and illustrates the process of choice that all of us must take-and that all of us are capable, this very second, of taking-to change our lives and make our dreams come true. Indecisive people are failure prone, and Dr. Barker examines this basic truth while exploring the decision-making process in the individual, and the role of the subconscious mind in either abetting or thwarting each of our conscious decisions. He provides specific steps to shift the balance of decision-making power in your favor, and he brings to light the constant, ever-present power of will to change a situation- and yourself-for the better. Picking up The Power of Decision is the moment; and reading it is the decision that will change your life forever.

Hawkins, author of When Pleasing Others Is Hurting You, shows how emotions can help readers discern what is most important, determine what is missing in their lives, and discover how God is leading them in new directions. The Power of Emotional Decision-Making reveals— Emotions are part of God's heart, as Jesus demonstrated in the temple with the moneychangers, at Lazarus' tomb, and in Gethsemane. God communicates not only through our mind and will but also through our emotions. Ignoring our emotions leads to the destructive influence of denial. Paying attention to our emotions helps us to deal more quickly and effectively with resentment and depression. Even anger, fear, and grief can lead us to make effective decisions. This unique guide will help readers discover what God is speaking to their hearts.

Book excerpt: The present study has attempted to apply the advantage of neuro-genetic algorithms for optimal decision making in maximum utilization of natural resources. Hydro-power is one of the inexpensive, but a reliable source of alternative energy which is foreseen as the possible answer to the present crisis in the energy sector. However, the major problem related to hydro-energy is its dependency on location. An ideal location can produce maximum energy with minimum loss. Besides, such power-plant also requires substantial amount of land which is a precious resource nowadays due to the rapid and uncontrolled urbanization observed in most of the urban centres in the World. The feasibility of such plants also depends on social acceptance as well as the level of environmental casualty and economic benefit, all of which is also spatially dependent. Decision making algorithms are applied to identify better solution if a problem has more than one alternative explication. Nature based algorithms are found to be efficient enough to catalyze such kind of decision making analysis. That is why the present study tries to utilize nature based algorithms to solve the problems of location selection for hydropower plants. The study employed six different types of nature based algorithms to select one of the locations among many available for installation of hydropower plant in the North Eastern part of the Indian subcontinent. The locations are selected based on their in stream resources and included in the decision making as alternatives. A methodology of criteria selection, determination of weightage and applications of bioinspired algorithms are adopted to produce utmost exertion of the available natural resources with minimum hostility and wastage of the same.

Book excerpt: This book explores the role and importance of interdisciplinary research in addressing key issues in climate and energy decision making. For over 30 years, an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students anchored at Carnegie Mellon University, joined by investigators and students from a number of other collaborating institutions across North America, Europe, and Australia, have worked together to better understand the global changes that are being caused by both human activities and natural causes. This book tells the story of their successful interdisciplinary work. With each chapter written in the first person, the authors have three key objectives: (1) to document and provide an accessible account of how they have framed and addressed a range of the key problems that are posed by the human dimensions of global change; (2) to illustrate how investigators and graduate students have worked together productively across different disciplines and locations on common problems; and (3) to encourage funders and scholars across the world to undertake similar large- scale interdisciplinary research activities to meet the world’s largest challenges. Exploring topics such as energy efficiency, public health, and climate adaptation, and with a final chapter dedicated to lessons learned, this innovative volume will be of great interest to students and scholars of climate change, energy transitions and environmental studies more broadly.
