To the women who live there, it’s a refuge. But a killer knows their secrets—and will make sure they never feel safe again . . . WICKED GAME Twenty years after Becca Hudson’s friend, Jessie, vanished from St. Elizabeth’s high school, a body is unearthed on school grounds. Far from solving the mystery, the discovery unleashes a string of new, horrible accidents. Is it coincidence—or has Jessie's murderer returned to finish what was started years ago? WICKED LIES Laura Adderley didn't plan to get pregnant, though she'll do anything to protect her baby. But now a reporter is asking questions about the lodge. And while he figures out Laura's connection to the story, Laura can sense a psychopath bent on her destruction . . . SOMETHING WICKED Detective Savannah Dunbar just wants to wrap up paperwork before taking medical leave. But her department's investigation into a double homicide has suddenly become personal. There are disturbing rumors about the Colony, its matriarch, and its history. Yet Savannah knows they’re no match for the wicked truth . . . WICKED WAYS Elizabeth Gaines Ellis wants to believe she’s just an ordinary suburban wife and mother. Yet for months, she’s worried that she's the cause of a series of brutal deaths. No one takes her seriously—except the private investigator prying into her past. But others have secrets too, and a relentless urge to kill without remorse . . .

Book excerpt: Collected throughout the last decade of the twentieth century, these reminiscences of ‘Moreton Bay People’ provide a unique insight into the lifestyle of the Moreton Bay area during a particular time frame of history – the twentieth century. Never again will we see a lazaret for lepers at Peel Island, a prison at St Helena, or a whaling station at Tangalooma. Hopefully, too, ‘The Bay’ will never experience another World War with its influx of foreign servicemen, or another Great Depression and its causalities seeking refuge in the bay’s islands. Between 1990 and 2000, author, Peter Ludlow, interviewed over eighty of the bay’s ‘personalities’ and then published their stories in a series of volumes entitled ‘Moreton Bay People’. Here, for the first time, they are all brought together in a single volume: “Moreton Bay People – The Complete Collection”. With its enhanced images, full indexation, and some more previously unpublished ‘gems’ this completely re-edited edition will prove essential reading to anyone – be they reference librarians of ‘boaties’ – with an interest in Moreton Bay and its people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The south-east Queensland region is currently experiencing the most rapid urbanisation in Australia. This growth in human population, industry and infrastructure puts pressure on the unique and diverse natural environment of Moreton Bay. Much loved by locals and holiday-goers, Moreton Bay is also an important biogeographic region because its coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and saltmarshes provide a supportive environment for both tropical and temperate species. The bay supports a large number of species of global conservation significance, including marine turtles, dugongs, dolphins, whales and migratory shorebirds, which use the area for feeding or breeding. Environmental History and Ecology of Moreton Bay provides an interdisciplinary examination of Moreton Bay, increasing understanding of existing and emerging pressures on the region and how these may be mitigated and managed. With chapters on the bay's human uses by Aboriginal peoples and later settlers, its geology, water quality, marine habitats and animal communities, and commercial and recreational fisheries, this book will be of value to students in the marine sciences, environmental consultants, policy-makers and recreational fishers.

Book excerpt: This book follows the journey of Donald Leslie Cameron, a Scotsman who left home at seventeen to work in the remote regions of Arctic Canada for the Hudson’s Bay Co. Skipping from island to island in the remotest outposts of the Canadian Arctic, Cameron’s career brings him into contact with the fur traders and fishermen of the Inuit First Nations, with the adventurous men and women who populate the northernmost towns, and eventually, with the love of his life. Along the way, Cameron learns the trade of retailing and fur-buying as a manager for the Hudson’s Bay Co, rising through the ranks of the corporation and traveling half of Canada’s northern expanse. The work was prompted by Cameron’s large family of six children, thirty-eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren to capture the sense of accomplishment, to tell the tale of his adventure, and to preserve his part of the history and geography of Northern Canada.

Book excerpt: This book contributes to the discussion of challenges faced in different areas of corpus linguistics, namely the compilation, annotation, and analysis of linguistic corpora. In a field of growing corpus sizes and expanding possibilities of gathering data, some old issues persist, while at the same time new problems have emerged. As the compilation and study of language corpora gets increasingly sophisticated and complex, continuous attention on ways of dealing with the data in question and challenges in text selection and interpretation is needed. The contributions to this volume address problems relating to a variety of areas in corpus linguistic study, including corpus annotation, data variability, learner language, social media texts, and database utilization. The authors provide critical overviews and research-based analyses, discuss the nature of some of the common pitfalls, and offer solutions to existing problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of practitioner and community stories that reveal how invasive species management is a community issue that can spark community formation and collective action. It combines the unique first-person narratives of practitioners on the frontline of invasive species management in Australia with three case studies of community action for wild dog management across a range of geographical landscapes. The book offers readers a new understanding of how communities are formed in the context of managing different species, and how fundamental social and political processes can make or break landholders’ ability to manage invasive species. Using narrative analysis of practitioner profiles and community groups, drawing lessons from real-world practices, and employing theories from community development, rural sociology and collective action, this book serves multiple functions: it offers a teaching tool, a valuable research contribution, and a practitioner’s field guide to pursuing effective community development work in connection with natural resource management, wildlife management and environmental governance.

This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1794, Charles Bishop sailed from Bristol as master of the Ruby, a trading ship bound for north-west America. He had instructions to procure otter furs from the Indians and then to proced to Canton via Japan and sell the cargo. During the years 1794-1802, he rounded South America to reach the Pacific coast, then visited the Pacific islands and the coasts of Asia and Australia. In the Moluccas, he sold the Ruby and purchased the Nautilus; correspondingly, the text is divided into two sections. This narrative is Bishop's journal of his voyages and relates a minor epic of adventure, courage and turbulent fortune. The records of his letters and financial accounts show something of the ships' general organization, and of the seamen who served such expeditions. Bishop also describes the various ports and peoples he encountered; his experiences typify European contacts in the Pacific, and the reaction between trader, missionary, administrator and local inhabitant. Dr Roe's introduction gives the background to the trading voyages of the 18th century and describes Bishop's pwn history. Records of his life continue until 1809, ending tragically in Sydney, where he passed some years in poverty and insanity, before being returned to England. . This is a new print-on-demand hardback edition of the volume first published in 1967.

The book also provides an extensive reference of useful information for the Queensland Coast such as skills and experience, recommended apps, charts and books, equipping the yacht for cruising, cruising logistics, climate and weather systems, marine hazards and the three major marine parks and their rules. This book will help get the first-time cruiser of the Queensland coast started. For those familiar with the coast, the wealth of information, data and links all pulled together into one place and organised in a systematic way will prove invaluable. For both, the more than one thousand external reference links make it easier to cruise the coast safely and simplify many of the everyday tasks of living on a cruising yacht such as finding and entering a marina and restocking once there.
