Book excerpt: Debunking Secular Humanism: A Comprehensive Christian Critique Discover the compelling truths behind the limitations of secular humanism with "Debunking Secular Humanism: A Comprehensive Christian Critique." This profound work, authored by Dr. Samuel James, a seasoned Christian Apologist and medical doctor, delves into the philosophical, ethical, and existential shortcomings of secular humanism. Dr. James systematically dismantles its foundational beliefs, revealing the internal contradictions, lack of moral grounding, and failure to offer objective meaning that secular humanism presents. "In the 21st century, the rise of secular humanism presents one of the most significant challenges for Christians, as it seeks to redefine moral and existential truths through a lens that often excludes God and Christian values. Learning to dismantle secular humanism is crucial because it directly conflicts with the core tenets of Christianity, such as the belief in absolute truth, divine purpose, and moral accountability to a higher power. As secular humanism continues to influence global culture, politics, and education, it threatens to erode the spiritual foundations upon which Christian ethics and worldview are built. For Christians, equipping themselves with the knowledge and tools to critically engage and dismantle secular humanism is not just about defending their faith; it's about preserving the integrity of the Gospel message and ensuring that future generations can discern and embrace the truth of Christianity in a world increasingly dominated by secular ideologies." - Dr. Samuel James, Author. Who Should Read This Book? Christians and religious scholars seeking a deep understanding of Christian critiques of secular ideologies. Theologians and academics exploring the interplay between religion and philosophy. Individuals questioning secular humanism or interested in a thorough analysis of its principles. What Will You Gain? Readers will gain a well-researched, theologically sound critique of secular humanism, equipping them with the knowledge to understand and confront its beliefs. This book also serves as a guide to exploring further resources on Christian apologetics, with a call to action encouraging readers to engage more deeply with these critical issues.

This unfortunate reality is intrinsically linked to the popularity increase of New Age spirituality in the twenty-first century, and we've been so influenced by its integration into our society that we have become blind to recognizing, and preventing, the effects of this mainstream, pop-culture heresy, even within the walls of God's house. In this imperative and timely book, former New-Agers Josh Peck and Steven Bancarz reveal:· What perverse dealings the authors personally witnessed from their experiences deep within the New Age Movement· Which real and dangerous supernatural force lurks behind the New Age· Facts that reveal how the occult has worked its way into modern, evangelical churches· Connections between New Ageism, fallen angels, extraterrestrials, and the Nephilim· Solid, historical associations between the New Age Movement and Satanism· What false-Christ and false-gospel doctrines are being pushed by New Age teachers· How the central deity of the New Age is a thinly veiled version of Leviathan, the ancient personification of chaos· How quantum physics is being manipulated to promote the New Age agenda· How to reach friends and family lost in the New Age movement· Warning signs and influences of the occult in your life and home, and what to do if you are under spiritual attackOur lives, our relationships, our world, and our churches all depend on our willingness to take action against the deceit of New Age spirituality. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astrology, the age-old system of divination that seeks to establish a correlation between celestial phenomena and events on Earth, has managed to sustain its allure across millennia. Despite centuries of scientific advancements, the quest for guidance, for understanding our identities, and for peeking into the future through the alignment of stars and planets persists. As a Christian apologist, I have ventured to confront this deeply entrenched belief system that not only deviates from core Judeo-Christian teachings but also subverts scientific understanding. This book aims to undertake a comprehensive examination of astrology from a Christian apologetic point of view. I invite readers from all walks of life to journey with me through a critical exploration of astrology's foundations, its appeal, its inconsistencies, and its conflict with both scientific reason and Christian faith. The objective here is not merely to criticize but to provide a nuanced understanding of why astrology is incompatible with a worldview anchored in the teachings of the Bible and the advancements of modern science.

Book excerpt: An inspired gathering of religious writings that reveals the "divine reality" common to all faiths, collected by Aldous Huxley "The Perennial Philosophy," Aldous Huxley writes, "may be found among the traditional lore of peoples in every region of the world, and in its fully developed forms it has a place in every one of the higher religions." With great wit and stunning intellect—drawing on a diverse array of faiths, including Zen Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Christian mysticism, and Islam—Huxley examines the spiritual beliefs of various religious traditions and explains how they are united by a common human yearning to experience the divine. The Perennial Philosophy includes selections from Meister Eckhart, Rumi, and Lao Tzu, as well as the Bhagavad Gita, Tibetan Book of the Dead, Diamond Sutra, and Upanishads, among many others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemplative experience is central to Hindu yoga traditions, Buddhist meditation practices, and Catholic mystical theology, and, despite doctrinal differences, it expresses itself in suggestively similar meditative landmarks in each of these three meditative systems. In Yoga, Meditation and Mysticism, Kenneth Rose shifts the dominant focus of contemporary religious studies away from tradition-specific studies of individual religious traditions, communities, and practices to examine the 'contemplative universals' that arise globally in meditative experience. Through a comparative exploration of the itineraries detailed in the contemplative manuals of Theravada Buddhism, Patañjalian Yoga, and Catholic mystical theology, Rose identifies in each tradition a moment of sharply focused awareness that marks the threshold between immersion in mundane consciousness and contemplative insight. As concentration deepens, the meditator steps through this threshold onto a globally shared contemplative itinerary, which leads through a series of virtually identical stages to mental stillness and insight. Rose argues that these contemplative universals, familiar to experienced contemplatives in multiple traditions, point to a common spiritual, mental, and biological heritage. Pioneering the exploration of contemplative practice and experience with a comparative perspective that ranges over multiple religious traditions, religious studies, philosophy, neuroscience, and the cognitive science of religion, this book is a landmark contribution to the fields of contemplative practice and religious studies.

Book excerpt: his book combines the perspectives of a dedicated yogi with that of a former anatomy professor and research associate at two major American medicine schools. He has set himself the ambitious goal of combining the modern scientific under- standing of anatomy and physiology with the ancient practice of hatha yoga. The result of an obvious labour of love, the book explains hatha yoga in demystified, scientific terms while at the same time honouring its traditions. It should go a long way in helping yoga achieve the scientific recognition it deserves. Useful as both a textbook and a reference work, this is a book that all serious yoga teachers and practitioners will want on their shelves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is spirituality? For some, it means nothing more than vague self-improvement pulled from the latest best-selling self-help book. For others, it refers to some generic religious practice. Shedding life-giving light on what often remains ill-defined and unclear, this book sets forth a vision of biblical spirituality—“a renewed sense of the momentousness of being alive in God’s world as God’s people are led by God’s Spirit through God’s Word unto godly, Christlike character.” With careful exegetical work and theological reflection, the contributors—pastors and scholars such as Christopher W. Morgan, Paul R. House, Nathan A. Finn, and Gregg R. Allison—address spirituality from the perspective of the Bible, exploring topics such as the Trinity, divine sovereignty and human responsibility, the “already” and “not yet,” and the church. This book also addresses practical questions about spirituality related to the workplace, disciplines of the body, and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For about two decades John W. Loftus was a devout evangelical Christian, an ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and an ardent apologist for Christianity. With three degrees--in philosophy, theology, and philosophy of religion--he was adept at using rational argumentation to defend the faith. But over the years, doubts about the credibility of key Christian tenets began to creep into his thinking. By the late 1990s he experienced a full-blown crisis of faith. In this honest appraisal of his journey from believer to atheist, the author carefully explains the experiences and the reasoning process that led him to reject religious belief. The original edition of this book was published in 2006 and reissued in 2008. Since that time, Loftus has received a good deal of critical feedback from Christians and skeptics alike. In this revised and expanded edition, the author addresses criticisms of the original, adds new argumentation and references, and refines his presentation. For every issue he succinctly summarizes the various points of view and provides references for further reading. In conclusion, he describes the implications of life without belief in God, some liberating, some sobering. This frank critique of Christian belief from a former insider will interest freethinkers as well as anyone with doubts about the claims of religion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aristotle's cosmological argument is the foundation of Aquinas's doctrine of God. For Thomas, the cosmological argument not only speaks of God's existence but also of God's nature. By learning that the unmoved mover is behind all moving objects, we learn something true about the essence of God-principally, that God is immobile. But therein lies the problem for Thomas. The Catholic Church had already condemned Aristotle's unmoved mover because, according to Aristotle, the unmoved mover is unable to be the moving cause (i.e., Creator) and governor of the universe-or else he would cease to be immobile. By seeking to baptize Aristotle into the Catholic Church, however, Thomas gave his life to seeking to explain how God can be both immobile and the moving cause of the universe. Thomas even looked to the pantheistic philosophy of Pseudo-Dionysius for help. But even with Dionysius's aid, Thomas failed to reconcile the god of Aristotle with the Trinitarian God of the Bible. If Thomas would have rejected the natural theology of Aristotle by placing the doctrine of the Trinity, which is known only by divine revelation, at the foundation of his knowledge of God, he would have rid himself of the irresolvable tension that permeates his philosophical theology. Thomas could have realized that the Trinity alone allows for God to be the only self-moving being-because the Trinity is the only being not moved by anything outside himself but freely capable of creating and controlling contingent things in motion.
