Written for those who have experienced any kind of loss — death, divorce, or disappointment — this book offers reasonable, reassuring thinking on dealing with the death of loved ones and ourselves, finding the inner gifts that promote healing, and much more. Awakening from Grief takes a rare and compelling positive look at a subject needlessly viewed as one of the most negative in life. This is a persuasive primer on drawing the joy out of grief.

Am I really an American girl, cast back to the time of Jesus? Or a delusional Jewish teen, plagued with visions of a place called America, thousands of years in the future? I don’t know anymore. But I do know that something awful is about to happen to my Jesus: they’re going to arrest him tonight, and kill him. No one believes me; they think I’m crazy. So it’s up to me to save him, hurrying down this dark path toward Gethsemane, toward the turning point of all history, the attempt to kill Jesus . . . toward the uncertainty of whether I can actually manage to change the future. The self is a relation which relates itself to its own self, or it is that in the relation [which accounts for it] that the relation relates itself to its own self; the self is not the relation but [consists in the fact] that the relation relates itself to its own self. Man is a synthesis of the infinite and the finite, of the temporal and the eternal, of freedom and necessity; in short, it is a synthesis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tibetan Book of the Dead: Awakening Upon Dying, with introductory commentary by Dzogchen Buddhist master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, is a new translation of the ancient text also known as The Great Liberation through Hearing in the Intermediate State. Both a practical guide and intriguing historical, cultural, and spiritual document, this new version incorporates recent discoveries that have allowed for a better translation of previously ambiguous passages. Revealing a set of instructions designed to facilitate the inner liberation of the dead or dying person, the book provides a guide to navigating the bardo--the interval between death and rebirth. Originally composed by Padmasambhava, an important Indian master of the eighth century, the Tibetan Book of the Dead was concealed in Tibet until it was discovered in the fourteenth century by Karma Lingpa, a famous Tibetan tertön (discoverer of ancient texts). Describing in detail the characteristics and fantastic visions of each stage beyond death, the book includes invocations to be read aloud to the dying person, to help his or her successful journey toward the stage of liberation. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu's introduction clarifies the texts from the Dzogchen point of view and provides a scholarly summary of the ancient material based on his oral teachings and written works. In addition, material from several of Namkhai Norbu's more recent written works and oral teachers have been added, including an essay on the four intermediate states after death entitled Birth, Life, and Death. A full-color 16-page insert of traditional Tibetan art highlights Tibet's unique aesthetic wisdom.

Book excerpt: Fear of death is nearly as inevitable as death itself, so we have used modern medicine and the funeral industry to create an ever-increasing distance between us and our mortality. But these interventions have stripped death of its mystery and mysticism. Taking readers on a journey through history, guided by the mystics, Awakened by Death shows us how our psychological and spiritual relationship to death has changed over time, and helps us to reclaim a healthy engagement with our own mortality. Ultimately, readers will gain a deeper understanding of how facing the fear of death, and embracing rather than eschewing its mysteries, can help us live richer, fuller lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the mirror to my soul. It tells about how I felt when certain things came into my life. It also explains how I saw the things that God the Father created. It is a depiction of my feelings when I received the Spirit of the Lord and let Him lead me down the path of righteousness. I have been writing this book for over twenty years. It did not start out as a book, I first was just writing down my spiritual thoughts that the spirit told me to write in journals that I kept. The Spirit of the Lord would wake me from a sound sleep and through thoughts put these words into my head. My children are the ones who encouraged me to turn these writings into a book. I thought that was flattering and I considered doing so, but the spirit did not give me the go head until now. I guess He was not through telling me what to write. I kept reading my bible and going to church and getting closer and closer to my savior Jesus Christ. I literal fell in love with God the father and Jesus Christ the son. When I received the Holy Spirit I didnt know what was happening to me. I felt a burning sensation, as if I was on fire and I saw red when I closed my eyes. I went into a deep sleep and when I awaken in the morning I felt brand new. I wanted to pick up the bible and start reading what thus sayeth the Lord. That was the best feeling I have ever had, not even when I gave birth to my two children, did I feel that sensation. Getting to know God and feeling His spirit within you is the greatest feeling in the world. I was taught who God the father is and why Jesus was sent to die for us. I learned how to live a peaceful and joyous life and to keep them both in my sight, so that when I came to the light I could follow them. I was taught that I could receive eternal life, if I keep the faith, believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Confess that He died for my sins and turn from my wicked ways; be water baptized and spirit filled, than I would be saved. This is a wonderful feeling to have. I hope I give whoever reads this word inspiration to get to know the Father God and the son Jesus Christ the anointed one and let the spirit come in and have His will so that you too can experience the same feeling that I have.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awakening to Spirit explores the nature of spirituality in the postmodern age as a personal journey within a living, responsive cosmos. In a world of multiple religious traditions, spiritual ambiguity, and widespread secular atheism, Lee Irwin offers a non-traditional view of spirituality that's intrinsic to personal growth and development. He presents Ten Principles that reflect stages of spiritual growth and culminate in a mystical encounter inherent to an experiential view of contemporary spirituality. Various physical, emotional, imaginative, intellectual, and psychic aspects of spiritual development are considered, leading to a discussion of spiritual maturity, old age, and self-renewal. Social relations, compassionate love, and responsible, mature human relationships are emphasized. Altered states of consciousness (dreams, visions, mystical experiences) are presented as a valid, necessary means for an understanding of Spirit, and many ideas from contemporary cosmology, process theology, parapsychology, and western esotericism are integrated into the book.

You probably know koans as paradoxes, and you may believe that they are therefore illogical or intellectually inscrutable—and therefore not useful to the average person. Zen Koans: Paradoxical Awakenings is the tool you need to correct your perceptions of koans and become aware of the benefits of koan practice. Embracing the paradox of the koan can give deeper meaning to life, as well as leading to the Buddhist awakening to your real, non-dual nature. With an experienced Zen teacher as your guide, you can enter more deeply into the three essentials of Zen: great faith, great doubt, and great determination.
