It is a polemical work, designed to show among other things that the doctrine of universal redemption is unscriptural and destructive of the gospel. It was called forth by the progress in England of Arminianism and the half-way house of Amyraldianism adopted by Baxter, Davenant and Usher.

Sometimes as he sits vigil and holds the patient's hand . . . he can experience what they feel and see as they cross over. Because of these God-given glimpses of the afterlife--his "appointments with heaven"--Reggie knows beyond a doubt that we are closer to the next world than we think. Join him as he shares remarkable stories from his life and practice, including the tragedy that nearly drove him away from faith forever. He reveals how what he's seen, heard, and experienced has shaped what he believes about living and dying; how we can face the passing of our loved ones with the courage and confidence that we will see them again; and how we can each prepare for our own "appointment with heaven." Soul-stirring and hope-filled, Appointments with Heaven is a powerful journey into the questions at the very core of your being: Is there more to life than this? What is heaven like? And, most important: Do I believe it enough to let it change me?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While many books are written on Jesus’ death, a gap exists in writings about the theological significance of a believer’s death, particularly in imitation of Jesus’. Paul, as a first apostolic witness who talked frequently about his own death, serves as a foundational model for how believers perceive their own death. While many have commented about Paul’s stance on topics such as forensic righteousness and substitutionary atonement, less is written about Paul’s personal experience and anticipation of his own death and the merit he assigned to it. Paul and His Mortality: Imitating Christ in the Face of Death explores how Paul faced his death in light of a ministry philosophy of imitation: as he sought to imitate Christ in his life, so he would imitate Christ as he faced his death. In his writings, Paul acknowledged his vulnerability to passive death as a mortal, that at any moment he might die or come near death. He gave us some of the most mournful and vitriolic words about how death is God’s and our enemy. But he also spoke openly about choosing death: “My aim is to know him . . . to be like him in his death.” This study seeks to show that Paul embraced death as a follower and imitator of Christ because the benefits of a good death supersede attempts at self-preservation. For him, embracing death is gain because it is honorable, because it reflects ultimate obedience to God, and because it is the reasonable response for those who understand that only Jesus’ death provides atonement. Studying mortality is paradoxically a study of life. Peering at the prospect of life’s end energizes life in the present. This urgency focuses on living with mission in step with God, the Creator and Sustainer of life, who is rightly referred to as Life itself. By focusing on mortality, we focus on Paul’s theology of life in its practical aspects, in particular, living life qualitatively, aware of God’s kingdom and mission and our limited quantity of days.

Book excerpt: This book presents a significant repudiation of the traditional eschatological doctrines, both Catholic and Protestant, based on the key idea that human death, as a dying into the death of Christ, is to be construed positively as a salvific event that confers the plenitude of life to the human. Offering helpful critiques of selected contemporary theologians, Novello explores how the proposed theology of death has liturgical and pastoral implications for Christian faith and praxis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until Death Does Its Part is a term people equate to a ceremony or consider useful only in a matrimonial vow. However, it is pertinent in the lives of Christians every day. The Light affliction that God's chosen people suffer and die to are for a more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Death has to do its part in us, meaning the dying of one's self to the will of our creator God. When we choose to give God what he is longing for in our lives without compromise, we reap the benefits of a peaceable fruit. Death has a part in living the victorious abundant life. God's son died for us, and we must die to self without reservation. The fullness of time has come for the manifestation of the sons of God. Only those who have died to self will reap the harvest. John 3:3""7 lets us know that not only are Christians born again when we come to salvation, but we also continue dying to self as part of the sanctification process. But the dying to self is not easy and must be embraced daily with tenacity and confidence in knowing that he who brought us to this will also bring us through it. Every step on the ladder takes us up higher and the temptation, sometimes greater, but in the midst of it all, we remember the third day of being elevated. The seed that falls to the ground and die will indeed reproduce a ripe harvest and be raised as a testimony of his glory. Living out our destiny and purpose will promote us to dying a thousand deaths to this life. But we were made for this. We must accept what God is calling us to""Until Death Does Its Part!

Book excerpt: DEATH. It’s all around us and no one can escape it. Sometimes it doesn't seem fair that we have to live with the results of one man's choice long ago in the Garden of Eden. In this book you will explore why Adam ate from the forbidden tree and you will embark upon a journey to an amazing truth. We tend to blame Adam for our “appointment with death,” but we must remember that the choice is ultimately ours to make. In this world of pain, suffering, and death we must learn to look to God as our Sustainer and thus we can appreciate all the more the sacrifice of His Son to save us. In addition to humanity's appointment with death, this book also shares words of wisdom gained through many years of living and having faith in God through it all. Always remember to “take off fear and put on courage” and know that “your worth does not come from another person—it comes from your Creator.” He is there to lead you on this journey. Finally, this experience is not only about what God shares with us, but what we can give back to Him. Sometimes we give money, sometimes we give things, and sometimes we give ourselves. All are important to God.

Book excerpt: How can I overcome the fear of death? How can I stop being afraid of dying? What happens when I die? Where do I go when I die? Can we know what will happen to us when we die? In Why Fear Death?, author Curtis Coleman answers yes! Leveraging his college and seminary training in the original biblical languages and his experience building a successful international biotechnology company, Coleman masterfully weaves the Bible, modern science, and popular culture into a tour de force that demystifies death and argues that the fear of dying can be defeated by knowing what many have argued is unknowable. For most people, the thing they most treasure is staying alive on earth. As a result, they live their entire lives in bondage to fear of physical death. Coleman argues compellingly that we can confidently know what happens when we die, and we can know where we will go when we die. We can choose to have the information that can eliminate the fear of death.

The author, fueled by questions surrounding the death of his daughter in a car accident, insists our darkest questions about what God is up to, and where God is as we go through pain, are simply the trails we must take to get to joy. It is a deeply moving and theologically substantive work for anyonebut, in particular, anyone who has suffered the death of a loved one, the death of a marriage, the death of innocence, a relationship, or a dream. Ultimately, it winds up being a fresh and nuanced take on the oldest subject of all: suffering. Its a book entitled, DEATH, HOPE & THE LAUGHTER OF GOD. Yes, an unlikely title about the unlikely path where God finds us.
