Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normally in the literary world, when you write and publish your original autobiography, “I Was Compost When Compost Wasn’t Cool,” now some ten years ago, you put a substantial period on what I and many readers thought was a very interesting and successful life. What else could there be, what else could transpire in just ten short years that would be worthy to share? Fortunately for my very valuable readers, my wife and I have gone through another life time of experiences packed into those very hectic ten years which I hope you will find interesting, but also emotional, irredeemable, despicable, and downright felonious in many aspects. It still involves my first loves of farming, composting, machinery and all the life-long learning connected to that. I mean for me, what else is there in life. It still reverts back to my parental upbringing and all of my previous mentioned mentors that was my privilege and pleasure to work with in my life up to this point. Many aspects and stories about those folks will be highlighted that were missed in my first book. It also has a lot to do with my wife Debbie and our life together. It’s absolutely amazing how much a person can endure and the pain and heartbreak both physically and mentally will be described the best I know how. This book will also describe again, to the best of my ability the unimaginable amount of greed, ruthlessness, trickery, conniving, fraud, extravagant spending and incredible amount of elder abuse on the part of certain family members on their own parents and siblings. It is just amazing what money, greed and power can do to a family and that will be detailed finally in this book. Yes, only ten years since the original auto-biography was written, but what a ride. Hard for me or anyone else to believe, but my wife and I lived through all of it for a very unexpected and tragic ending. I am the first one to realize that no one is guaranteed anything in life, regardless, it should have been a wonderful life, we tried to do everything I thought to make it so, but unfortunately it turned out to be anything but wonderful for us.

Book excerpt: After leaving her hometown and first true love, Libby Bennett returns to begin her life anew. Years of abuse and deceit at the hands of her now ex-husband, Stephen, a big city attorney, have caused her to long for the simple, peaceful life of Clifton and the sort of life she knew as a child and teenager. Little does she know, Stephen lurks in the shadows with evil in his twisted mind. With the help of her lifelong friend, Maggie, and her husband, Libby would forge a new life for herself, beginning with opening a business of her own. Handsome, strong, gentle, hardworking Ben Stewart, Libby’s first love, slowly reenters her life. Before long, the young couple have rekindled the love for each other they had never truly lost. All the while, Stephen is in the background—always dangerous, always a threat, always disrupting what should have been.

There is quite a bit of danger and violence in this book. I Should Have Been Dead and Gone is the true story of my life, beginning around four years old. Every incident is true, although names and cities have been changed for privacy reasons. I received a lot of healing as I wrote my life story. I wrote this book entirely as the Lord told me to. It was written to give someone hope and encouragement that you too will make it through dark times in your life. If just one person is helped in any way, then my prayer has been answered.

Book excerpt: The examination for Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) remains one of the most internationally recognised postgraduate examinations in the specialty. Over the years, the examination has evolved in keeping with changes in medical education; the Part 2 examination now consists of two papers made up of Single Best Answer (SBA) questions and Extended Matching Questions (EMQ). This invaluable resource consists of 400 SBA questions (200 in Obstetrics and 200 in Gynaecology), followed by 400 EMQs (200 in Obstetrics and 200 in Gynaecology), grouped into papers, to provide enough material to guide preparations and to give some practice experience of the examination formats. All the questions have answers with explanations and sources of evidence. In preparing for the examination, candidates should make repeated references to these sources of evidence. There is also general advice on how to prepare for the examination and discussion of the reasons why trainees fail the examination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So many people have told me I should write a book because I almost always could come up with a true story for most any situation happening. So I am succumbing to all the prompting and writing down the many stories I have stored in me. It's impossible to just sit down and write everything at once. I have to wait until an event happens that triggers my memory. For instance, when I was in the army, I recorded many of the happenings of army life that I thought funny or unusual. Stories I write will mostly be about other people that happened into my life and not necessarily about me, but I was there, an observer as much as a participant. I've relied on the opinions of generous friends who think my stories are worthwhile. I'm fortunate to have crossed paths with many luminaries and have been exposed to lots of humanity, both good and bad. I went from high school into army intelligence for three years during the Korean War. After being discharged, I attended Wayne State University for one year and sold cars for a short while. Then I went to the Chrysler Engineering Institute. I graduated from Chrysler and became a body design engineer. After a while, big layoffs got me looking for employment again, and I went to work as a mechanical engineer for several years at companies that were into the space programs. I drifted into acting and modeling and was one of the most working models around Detroit. I was in over one hundred movies and TV commercials in that career for nineteen years and worked all over the country. In 1980, I moved to the Palm Beach area in Florida and, after a short time engineering again, was hired as a salesman at one of the largest art galleries in the world. I spent sixteen years at the gallery and then retired as part owner. In retirement now, I occupy my time painting, golfing, and cruising around the waters in my boat. This book is about the unusual happenings in my varied life and of the many famous people I met and worked with. Every story is true and written as best I can recollect.

Book excerpt: In this comprehensive essay, I re-frame David Jones' modern First World War epic poem In Parenthesis while deploying theories of conceptual metaphor, mental spaces, and perception of time, much as Jones re-framed the War within his distinct style of form and narrative. Rich with illustrated figures, my argument is not only built from the careful consideration of ideas put forth by literary critics like T.S. Eliot, but it is also grounded with work by renowned cognitive scientists like George Lakoff and (monk riddle teller) Gilles Fauconnier. The ability to analyze literature systematically and in bio-psychological context is a true innovation, much like David Jones’ exquisite poem itself. The field of cognitive poetics encourages us to experiment in literary criticism. Psychology has unearthed so much about consciousness and unconsciousness in recent decades that we can effectively go backward in time to use that new knowledge as a lens to observe what unconscious and conscious motivations may lay within an author’s mind as he pens a work. Enjoy.

Thomas, his wife, and young son traveled to go Christmas shopping, their car rounded a curve in the road, revealing a horrific car accident. After Thomas stopped to assist in any way he could, he felt helpless as he watched a nurse expertly attend to the unconscious driver and other passengers. If only I could do something, he thought to himself. In a matter of minutes, the course of Thomass life had changed forever. After he witnessed the gruesome car crash, Thomas decided to train to become an EMT. While the work was rewarding, it was not long before Thomas craved something more and enrolled in school to become a flight nurse. He embarked on a journey that took him down a path of challenging tests, both academically and personally. In this memoir, Thomas reveals how he battled insecurities and fears, soon discovering the emotional roller coaster ride nurses must take while training and caring for a variety of patients. I Should Have Been a Teacher provides an eye-opening glimpse into the unpredictable life of a nurse, the emergency room, and all those who have a dream of making society better by making it their lifes mission to care for the injured, sick, and dying.
