A “touching father-daughter story” (Kirkus Reviews) from the author of Bittersweet and Twenty Boy Summer. Jude has learned a lot from her older sisters, but the most important thing is this: The Vargas brothers are notorious heartbreakers. She’s seen the tears and disasters that dating a Vargas boy can cause, and she swore an oath—with candles and a contract and everything—to never have anything to do with one. Now Jude is the only sister still living at home, and she’s spending the summer helping her ailing father restore his vintage motorcycle—which means hiring a mechanic to help out. Is it Jude’s fault he happens to be cute? And surprisingly sweet? And a Vargas? Jude tells herself it’s strictly bike business with Emilio. Her sisters will never find out, and Jude can spot those flirty little Vargas tricks a mile away—no way would she fall for them. But Jude’s defenses are crumbling, and if history is destined to repeat itself, she’s speeding toward some serious heartbreak…unless her sisters were wrong? Jude may have taken an oath, but she’s beginning to think that when it comes to love, some promises might be worth breaking.

Book excerpt: Says former desperate housewife Darla Shine to stay-at-home moms everywhere: What have you got to complain about? A modern-day guide to keeping house, raising kids, and loving life. Darla Shine was once a desperate housewife. Being at home with two small children and a husband who was rarely home was enough to drive her crazy. She left her high-profile job as a television producer after her son was born, while her husband continued to move up the corporate ladder. Like many of her stay-at-home-mom friends, Shine employed a housekeeper and baby-sitters so she could spend her time running to the salon, the club, and out to lunch. Then one day she was whining to her mother about how terrible her life was, and her mother yelled at her to wake up and stop being so selfish. It was just the wakeup call she needed! The desperate housewife craze of today is sending the wrong message to women and their children everywhere, says Shine. When did being a good mom and being proud to stay home with the kids go out of style? When did it become acceptable to cheat on your husband? When did mothers start dressing like their teenage daughters? Shine finds the standards of today's desperate housewives astonishingly low, and she has set out to teach women how they can be good mothers, look good, and feel good about the choices they make. Being a housewife does not mean you are on house arrest or can't be satisfied in your marriage. So step up, realize that you want to be home with your children, and embrace your life.

Book excerpt: The reason for publishing my book is to reach victims all over the world in hope of inspiring them to come forward and bring to justice more sex offenders as I did. That first step is the most crucial in any kind of recovery and is extremely difficult. We all know that any kind of abuse is very traumatic for every victim, and what I have found, is that every victims reaction is completely different yet not all accepted by society as they claim.Victims are not always women as most people think. Violators, rapists and sexual offenders are given many chances to re-do their lives and pick up where they left off when they get out of jail if they ever spend a day in jail. But us victims, forever live in a dark gloomy world, full of suspicious people and find it very hard to continue with our normal lives ever again. We live a life sentence of depression, guilt, shame and fear because of our attackers, and that is not the way it should be. Our system should be able to understand, guild and help us to a life time of therapy paid for by our government and/or the offender for changing our entire life as well as our loved once. We are left with distorted minds for the way they treated us. Our system should realize that just as every case is different, so is our response to our traumatic experience and to the therapy received, if any.Unfortunately, some victims turn to drugs, alcohol, lose or gain weight, depression or even suicide, leaving children, families and friends behind. Others turn to prostitution or just having multiple sexual partners.Others turn to same sex partners for fear of the opposite sexual partner hurting them too. And others give up having a social, sexual, or spiritual life all together. Some victims live hating men for the rest of their lives, blaming the rest of the world for their anger and when they totally loose control and snap, they forget why they had so much anger built up inside. Victims have hurt, tortured and killed men in acts of passion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summer theme: Justice in the New Testament Matthew | Luke | 2 Corinthians | Colossians This summer, our lessons focus on justice as presented in the New Testament. Justice is portrayed as a primary characteristic of God's nature. Human beings are called to emulate God's justice toward one another. The writer for the student book is Randy Cross; the writer for the teacher book is David Mosser. God Is Just and Merciful The four lessons in this unit remind us that human interpretations of the Law must not conflict with mercy and justice as acted out in our daily lives. The lessons from Matthew look at conflicts between Jesus and the Pharisees on questions of mercy and justice. The lesson from Luke looks at how God dispenses justice and mercy. Jesus Calls for Justice and Mercy The five lessons in this unit explore Jesus' teachings on God's justice in Matthew and Luke. Included is Jesus'; demand for leaders to practice justice as well as to understand the universality of God's justice and mercy. Paul Teaches About New Life in Christ Paul's teachings about just and merciful behaviors from 2 Corinthians and Colossians are the focus of the four lessons in this unit. Those who live the new life in Christ are called to imitate God's just and merciful nature through their actions toward others, including their enemies. In a path breaking twist from other well-written memoirs of former foster youth, his story reflects on the acting out that ensued as a result of a constant sense of instability in the world around him. Amid his internal struggles, Adam properly attributes his ability to remain steadfast toward achieving his successful breakaway from the cycle to his education and the ones who gathered around him during his times of need. His story provides inspiration for anyone searching for a sign of strength to relate to their own struggle. Broken Child Mended Man is a testimony for anyone who wants to overcome trials in their life and realize their ultimate worth.
