Book Synopsis The Grumbler's Guide to Giving Thanks by : Dustin Crowe
Download or read book The Grumbler's Guide to Giving Thanks written by Dustin Crowe and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trade Grumbling for Gratitude—Experience God like Never Before The apostle Paul instructed the Philippians to be anxious in nothing and thankful in everything. And when he said everything—he meant everything. We can all agree that this is easier said than done. Disappointments and discontent may cause you to slip into dissatisfaction, and grumbling becomes a state of mind—gratitude seems impossible to find. However, what if this is the precise reason you lack the joy of a God-filled life? Instead of a reaction to when things are going well, what if gratitude is actually necessary to knowing the hope of our gracious God? This is exactly what Pastor Dustin Crowe identifies in The Grumbler’s Guide to Giving Thanks. Dustin examines the biblical foundations of thankfulness and traces how it can reshape every-day Christian living. When we express gratitude in all things, we not only praise our Creator, we also get to know Him better. With The Grumbler’s Guide, you’ll learn how to practice thanksgiving in both simple and extraordinary ways, even when you’re tempted to dwell on the negative. You’ll find your outlook on life realigned to see the hand of God in everything, strengthening your trust in Him. And in doing so, you’ll find greater, more joy-filled reasons to continue expressing thanks to our good and generous God.

Book Synopsis The Lord’s battle by : William White
Download or read book The Lord’s battle written by William White and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the preaching and printing of sermons by royalists during the English Revolution. While scholars have long recognised the central role played by preachers in driving forward the parliamentarian war-effort, the use of the pulpit by the king’s supporters has rarely been considered. The Lord’s battle, however, argues that the pulpit offered an especially vital platform for clergymen who opposed the dramatic changes in Church and state that England experienced in the mid-seventeenth century. It shows that royalists after 1640 were moved to rethink earlier attitudes to preaching and print, as the unique potential for sermons to influence both popular and elite audiences became clear. As well as contributing to our understanding of preaching during the Civil Wars therefore, this book engages with recent debates about the nature of royalism in seventeenth-century England.
Book Synopsis To Meddle with Matters of State by : Christoph Ketterer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In this volume Christoph Ketterer analyses political preaching during the reigns of Charles II (1660–1685) and James II (1685–1688/89). He argues that the political importance of sermons preached at court, before Parliament and in the churches of London, is based on the unsolved political, and confessional tensions of the era. Preachers relatively freely discussed questions of religious tolerance, models of political power, and could offer counsel and criticism to those in power. They were in a position to influence the political and religious discourse of Restoration England. In addition, a refined culture of reception existed, and listeners, readers as well as preachers were acutely aware of the sermon genre's performative dimension. Sermons therefore continued to be of central importance for the political and religious discourse of the Restoration.

Book Synopsis The Treasure Principle, Revised and Updated by : Randy Alcorn
Download or read book The Treasure Principle, Revised and Updated written by Randy Alcorn and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-04-11 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how the joy of giving can make your life richer, starting today. Bestselling author Randy Alcorn introduced readers to a revolution in material freedom and radical generosity with the release of the original The Treasure Principle in 2001. Now the revision to the compact, perennial bestseller includes a provocative new concluding chapter depicting God asking a believer questions about his stewardship over material resources. Jesus spent more time talking about money and possessions than about heaven and hell combined. But too often we’ve overlooked or misunderstood his most profound teaching on this topic, from his words in Matthew 6. Jesus offers us life-changing investment advice. He actually wants us to store up treasures for ourselves—just not here on earth. Instead, he urges us to store our treasure in heaven, where they will await us, and last forever. We can’t take it with us—but we can send it on ahead! Readers are moved from the realms of thoughtful Bible exposition into the highly personal arena of everyday life. Because when Jesus told His followers to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,” He intended that they discover an astounding secret: how joyful giving brings God maximum glory and His children maximum pleasure. In The Treasure Principle, you’ll unearth a radical teaching of Jesus—a secret wrapped up in giving. Once you discover this secret, life will never look the same. And you won’t want it to be. “Supercharged with stunning, divine truth! Lightning struck over and over as I read it.” - John Piper, Senior Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis

Book Synopsis An Intertextual Commentary to the Psalter by : David Emanuel
Download or read book An Intertextual Commentary to the Psalter written by David Emanuel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When reading the Psalter, the sequencing of individual psalms is often overlooked or taken for granted, and it is easy to assume that the psalms’ placement results purely from happenstance. The present volume, however, assumes that strategic approaches to juxtaposition, which editors and arrangers apply elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible, were similarly adopted in the arrangement of the Psalter. Furthermore, the Intertextual Commentary illuminates the vast array of biblical texts employed by the psalmists. In addition to the commonly recognized literary tool kit available to biblical poets (parallelism, metaphor, anthropomorphism, chiasmus, etc.), the poets relied heavily on inner-biblical allusion and exegesis to construct their compositions. Primarily adopting a diachronic approach, Emanuel isolates literary sources employed by the psalmists, and further postulates how the psalmists wove specific words and phrases into the fabric of their compositions.
