Download or read book The Entirepreneur written by Bill Bolton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this groundbreaking book Bill Bolton and John Thompson present a completely new take on the conventional domains of entrepreneur, leader and manager. They argue that in today’s turbulent and uncertain world, businesses no longer have the time for a business cycle that begins with an entrepreneur, hands over to a manager and finally brings in a strategic leader when things are flagging. ‘The New Normal’ that now prevails requires that these things run together and calls for a new kind of all-rounder. Bolton and Thompson give us a new word to describe such a person: The ENTIREPRENEUR The entirely competent person, able to discern aright and make things happen. Drawing upon the successful person-centred approach of their books on entrepreneurs they first tell the stories of over 40 entirepreneurs, demonstrating clearly that such people do exist. After discussing the ‘New Normal’ context they present a fascinating analysis that goes below the surface to describe the key Talent, Temperament, Technique and Discernment attributes that explain the entirepreneur. Readers have the opportunity to make a self-evaluation of their own attribute strengths, concluding with a final ‘entirepreneur’ score. This fascinating and insightful look at the entirepreneur is a clear pointer to what will be demanded of those who wish to succeed amid the vicissitudes of the 'New Normal’.

Book Synopsis Transformation After Lausanne by : Al Tizon
Download or read book Transformation After Lausanne written by Al Tizon and published by OCMS. This book was released on 2008 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lausanne '74 inspired evangelicals around the world to take seriously the full implications of the Gospel for mission. This was especially true of a worldwide network of radical evangelical mission theologians and practitioners, whose post-Lausanne reflections found harbour in the notion of "Mission as Transformation". This missiology integrated evangelism and social concern like no other, and it lifted up theological voices coming from the Two Thirds World to places of prominence. This book documents the definitive gatherings, theological tensions, and social forces within and without evangelicalism that led up to Mission as Transformation. And it does so through a global-local grid that points the way toward greater holistic mission in the 21st century."--BOOK JACKET.

Download or read book Entrepreneurs written by John Thompson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-05-31 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it take to be – or to become – a successful entrepreneur? Are there specific personality types that are best suited to entrepreneurship? And can these types, or rather the attributes that combine to forge them, be learned or acquired? In this book, John Thompson answers these questions – and many more – to let the reader see through the eyes of the entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs: Talent, Temperament, Opportunity and Mindset introduces the world of entrepreneurship from a person-centred perspective. Part 1 builds an understanding of the entrepreneur as a person based on the key factors of talent and temperament – a unique framework for understanding and exploiting entrepreneurial opportunities. Part 1 also explores the entrepreneurial mindset and how it can be honed and strengthened. The process of starting and growing a business is then described in detail in Part 2, which also examines entrepreneurship in the context of opportunity and strategy. Part 3 introduces the infrastructure and environment in which the entrepreneur has to operate and tells the stories of famous entrepreneurs through dozens of case vignettes, including classic figures such as Henry Ford, through to social entrepreneurs and even anti-social entrepreneurs such as Al Capone! This insightful, empirically-based take on the entrepreneur provides students with an accessible and original way into entrepreneurship. Whatever their background, students at all levels will value the author’s accessible writing style and invaluable insights.

Book Synopsis When Helping Hurts by : Steve Corbett
Download or read book When Helping Hurts written by Steve Corbett and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2009-06-24 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Churches and individual Christians typically have faulty assumptions about the causes of poverty, resulting in the use of strategies that do considerable harm to poor people and themselves. When Helping Hurts provides foundational concepts, clearly articulated general principles and relevant applications. The result is an effective and holistic ministry to the poor, not a truncated gospel. A situation is assessed for whether relief, rehabilitation, or development is the best response to a situation. Efforts are characterized by an "asset based" approach rather than a "needs based" approach. Short term mission efforts are addressed and economic development strategies appropriate for North American and international contexts are presented, including microenterprise development.

Book Synopsis Leadership in a Slum by : Alan R. Johnson
Download or read book Leadership in a Slum written by Alan R. Johnson and published by OCMS. This book was released on 2009 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Leadership in a Slum Johnson looks at leadership in the Thai social context from a different angle than traditional studies which measure well educated Thais on leadership scales derived in the West. Seeking a cultural account of social influence processes he turns to those who have been left behind in the race to participate in a globalizing world, the urban poor. Using both systematic data collection and participant observation he develops a culturally preferred model as well as a set of models based in Thai concepts that reflect on-the-ground realities. Johnson also examines the community-state relationship and finds that in the face of state power that brings both development and the forces of eviction, the community and its leaders are not passive in this relationship but modify, reject, or resist state views in their various forms. He concludes by looking at the implications of his anthropological approach for those who are involved in leadership training in Thai settings and beyond. This work challenges the dominance of the patron-client rubric for understanding all forms of Thai leadership and offers an alternative view for understanding leadership rooted in local social systems to approaches that assume the universal applicability of leadership research findings across all cultural settings.
Book Synopsis Searching for Heaven in the Real World by : Kathryn Ann Kraft
Download or read book Searching for Heaven in the Real World written by Kathryn Ann Kraft and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-02-24 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searching for Heaven in the Real World A Sociological Discussion of Conversion in the Arab World While adjusting to a new identity is akin to adjusting to a new set of skin, even more difficult is realising that this new skin may not be as comfortable or as pleasant as the old one. In Searching for Heaven in the Real World, Kathryn Kraft explores the breadth of psychological and societal issues faced by Arab Muslims after making a decision to adopt a faith in Christ or Christianity, investigating some of the most surprising and significant challenges new believers face. Arab Muslims arrive at a point of new faith with great expectations. With such high hopes for what they will experience in their new identity, they are bound to encounter a reality that is different. They need to invest a great deal of emotional energy in addressing their expectations and what they actually encounter. Even so, those who stay the course of faith usually hold on to their dreams, believing that heaven is not only for the afterlife but it is for the real world as well.
