Die Meinungen darüber gehen stark auseinander. Roland Merten hat dazu in seinem Buch "Hat die Soziale Arbeit ein politisches Mandat?" einige Positionen gesammelt veröffentlicht. Das erwähnte Buch legte den Grundstein für diese Arbeit, indem es mir die Frage nach dem politischen Mandat näherbrachte. Während meines Studiums habe ich ein Interesse für politische Belange der Sozialen Arbeit entwickelt. Die Soziale Arbeit ist in hohem Maße von der Politik abhängig und wird von dieser beeinflusst, hat jedoch auch den professionellen Auftrag seinen Klienten zu helfen, wo diese Hilfe benötigen. Demnach liegt es nahe, dass die Soziale Arbeit sich für die Interessen der Klienten einsetzt. Darüber hinaus hat die Soziale Arbeit auch berufsbedingte Interessen, die sie berücksichtigt sehen möchte. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, eine eigene Position zur Frage des politischen Mandats zu entwickeln und somit einen weiteren Beitrag zum Diskurs über das politische Mandat der Sozialen Arbeit zu leisten. In der vorliegenden Arbeit gehe ich der Frage nach, warum die Soziale Arbeit ein politisches Mandat braucht. Dazu beschäftige ich mich im ersten Kapitel zunächst mit dem Grundverständnis der Sozialen Arbeit. Dies beinhaltet einen historischen Abriss, die Funktions- und Gegenstandsbestimmung sowie die Definition der Sozialen Arbeit. Anschließend beschreibe ich im zweiten Kapitel die Mandate der Sozialen Arbeit. In Kapitel 3 "Politik und Soziale Arbeit" kläre ich zuerst das Politikverständnis, welches der vorliegenden Arbeit zugrunde liegt. Danach gehe ich auf das politische Umfeld der Sozialen Arbeit ein und beschreibe die Formen und Dimensionen von Politik in den Handlungsfeldern der Sozialen Arbeit, sowie
