The relationship and the increasing difference between Jews and Christians are determined by the way Jews and Christians have defined themselves against one another. Christians saw Jews as those who rejected Jesus, and therefore identified themselves in opposition to the Jews. The one and only Church, in origin Jewish and gentile became - by definition - anti-Jewish. One of the consequences was Auschwitz, for Jews a never-ending experience. The distinction between Jews and Christians is still present in modern definitions of Church. The problem remains: how can Jews and Christians be defined differently, and both be successors to the same tradition? Erst als römische Kaiser sich dem Christentum zuwandten, änderte sich dies. Nicht ohne Konflikt war auch die Begegnung zwischen Juden und Christen, da die Juden die Christen als Abtrünnige betrachteten und die Christen ihnen die Kreuzigung Jesu vorwarfen. Hass auf die Juden, der im "Dritten Reich" zur Katastrophe führte, lässt sich also bereits in der Antike finden.

The reconstruction of the historical emergence of early Christianity, Bradley H. McLean argues, has been constrained by traditional assumptions about its historical and transcendental origins. These assumptions are ill-suited to theorizing the genesis, change and transformation of early Christianity in the first three centuries of the Common Era. To capture the dynamism of early Christianity, McLean applies Guattari's concept of the 'machine', to the analysis of early Christianity. Arguing that machines are both an unnoticed dimension of early Christianity, and a major analytical tool for the discipline, McLean highlights the potential of the philosophy of Deleuze and Guattari to challenge and reconfigure not just our knowledge of early Christianity, but all aspects of Hellenistic Judaism, and the Greco-Roman world, as well as our understanding of Jesus of Nazareth and the Jesus movement.
