Book excerpt: Since his late teens, Louis Proud has suffered from chronic sleep paralysis and has undergone hundreds of such episodes, many of them terrifying but ultimately transformational and eye-opening. These experiences, he believes, allow access to the "spirit realm" and could well hold the key to a whole host of paranormal phenomena, including poltergeist disturbances, out-of-body-experiences, mediumship, spirit possession, and succubi and incubi encounters. Drawing on the work of Colin Wilson, Joe Fisher, Stan Gooch, Whitley Strieber, Robert Monroe, Dion Fortune, and a number of other paranormal experts, Proud lucidly demonstrates that many sleep paralysis experiences involve genuine contact and communication with incorporeal entities, some of them parasitic and potentially dangerous. In this comprehensive, open-minded exploration of the sleep paralysis phenomenon, filled with fascinating descriptions of his own experiences, as well as those of others, no stone is left unturned as Proud attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Book excerpt: From the three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the New York Times bestseller Angler, who unearthed the deepest secrets of Edward Snowden's NSA archive, the first master narrative of the surveillance state that emerged after 9/11 and why it matters, based on scores of hours of conversation with Snowden and groundbreaking reportage in Washington, London, Moscow and Silicon Valley Edward Snowden chose three journalists to tell the stories in his Top Secret trove of NSA documents: Barton Gellman of The Washington Post, Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian and filmmaker Laura Poitras, all of whom would share the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Poitras went on to direct the Oscar-winning Citizen Four. Greenwald wrote an instant memoir and cast himself as a pugilist on Snowden's behalf. Barton Gellman took his own path. Snowden and his documents were the beginning, not the end, of a story he had prepared his whole life to tell. More than 20 years as a top investigative journalist armed him with deep sources in national security and high technology. New sources reached out from government and industry, making contact on the same kinds of secret, anonymous channels that Snowden used. Gellman's old reporting notes unlocked new puzzles in the NSA archive. Long days and evenings with Snowden in Moscow revealed a complex character who fit none of the stock images imposed on him by others. Gellman now brings his unique access and storytelling gifts to a true-life spy tale that touches us all. Snowden captured the public imagination but left millions of people unsure what to think. Who is the man, really? How did he beat the world's most advanced surveillance agency at its own game? Is government and corporate spying as bad as he says? Dark Mirror is the master narrative we have waited for, told with authority and an inside view of extraordinary events. Within it is a personal account of the obstacles facing the author, beginning with Gellman's discovery of his own name in the NSA document trove. Google notifies him that a foreign government is trying to compromise his account. A trusted technical adviser finds anomalies on his laptop. Sophisticated impostors approach Gellman with counterfeit documents, attempting to divert or discredit his work. Throughout Dark Mirror, the author describes an escalating battle against unknown digital adversaries, forcing him to mimic their tradecraft in self-defense. Written in the vivid scenes and insights that marked Gellman's bestselling Angler, Dark Mirror is an inside account of the surveillance-industrial revolution and its discontents, fighting back against state and corporate intrusions into our most private spheres. Along the way it tells the story of a government leak unrivaled in drama since All the President's Men.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is being released after being hindered for a little over 3 years. However, due to the importance, continued promptings, encouragement, consistent help and steadfastness of the Holy Spirit, we are finally able to release it to the body of Christ as led and directed by the Lord. Seeing that none of us are perfect, we have done our best to help you understand how the Lord is desiring us to gain the ability to resist dark spirit infiltrations, development and infestations against our body, soul, spirit life and relationships, which could lead to spiritual captivity, spiritual spoil, spirit domination and can even cause or produce servants of corruption without, consistent releases from dark spirit activity and intrusions of dark spirit life. Although, it may not be a perfect work (it is the Lord that perfects His work in our lives), it is a complete assignment within itself. None of us will ever be perfect outside of Christ. We have stood in the gap to complete this work for the body of Christ and those desiring to be in the Lord's camp, by the will of the Lord and by His grace we humbly release this writing, to help you stand in these last days, in obedience to the Lord and we pray to do a Volume Two to continue working towards perfecting anything we could have missed while continuing to stand, during try times and hindrances, to complete this work. It continues to be a good fight of faith all the way for the honor and glory of His name! Eze 22.30. Sam 15.22. Eph 6.13. Please remember that our independent flow charts are now available (to help preserve the body, soul and/or spirit life and situations in Christ) and can be used as a supplement to this writing to help you stand in battle in these areas and/or withstand whatever and however the enemy is trying to affect and/or operate in your life. Be encouraged, there is hope in Christ Jesus because of His complete work at Calvary. HE IS RISEN! He is Lord, in the spirit realm. He is Lord of all! Mt. 28.6. We bless you in the name of the Lord! Book excerpt: Two London detectives track a faceless, elusive threat in “a Silence of the Lambs for the Internet age” (Ian Rankin, New York Times–bestselling author of A Song for the Dark Times). Winner, Theakston’s Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year Award A distressed young woman arrives at the police station claiming her friend has been abducted, and that the man threatened to return and “claim her next.” Detectives Carrigan and Miller of London’s Metropolitan Police are soon drawn into a terrifying new world of cyberstalking—where the threat of online intimidation, hacking, and control is ever-present. Under scrutiny themselves, and with old foes resurfacing, the pressure is on Carrigan and Miller to find the truth behind what these two women have been subjected to, in this “deeply unsettling page-turner” (Kirkus Reviews) by the Dagger Award finalist and author of A Dark Redemption and Eleven Days. “[A] convincingly flawed hero.” —Publishers Weekly “Sherez isn’t your standard police procedural series author. He writes literary crime thrillers with a joyfully dark heart, which just happen to involve police investigators . . . The Intrusions hurtles along on a twisting journey, but it’s a richly layered story that has plenty to say too.” —Mystery Scene Magazine “Sherez brings a trenchant, galvanic force to the crime novel.” —Financial Times “Carrigan is a complex character, someone well worth meeting again.” —The New York Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light and darkness shape our perception of the world. This is true in a literal sense, but also metaphorically: in theology, philosophy, literature and the arts the light of day signifies life, safety, knowledge and all that is good, while the darkness of the night suggests death, danger, ignorance and evil. A closer inspection, however, reveals that things are not quite so clear cut and that light and darkness cannot be understood as simple binary opposites. On a biological level, for example, daylight and darkness are inseparable factors in the calibration of our circadian rhythms, and a lack of periodical darkness appears to be as contrary to health as a lack of exposure to sunlight. On a cultural level, too, night and darkness are far from being universally condemnable: in fiction, drama and poetry the darkness of the night allows not only nightmares but also dreams, it allows criminals to ply their trade and allows lovers to meet, it allows the pursuit of pleasure as well as deep thought, it allows metamorphoses, transformations and transgressions unthinkable in the light of day. But night is not merely darkness. The night gains significance as an alternative space, as an ‘other of the day’, only when it is at least partially illuminated. The volume examines the interconnection of night, darkness and nocturnal illumination across a broad range of literary texts. The individual essays examine historically specific light conditions in literature, tracing the symbolic and metaphoric content of darkness and illumination and the attitudes towards them.
