Book excerpt: Las catástrofes ambientales registradas en el último siglo y los efectos nocivos que la actividad industrial y nuestra forma de vida tienen sobre el medio ambiente y, con él, sobre nuestra calidad de vida, han puesto de manifiesto la especial naturaleza de los daños ambientales, su magnitud y los retos jurídicos que su complejidad plantea. Estos están, sin duda, directamente relacionados con los que la globalización plantea al Derecho en general y al Derecho internacional privado en particular. Con el fin de plantear propuestas de mejora, se analizan en esta obra los principales obstáculos en el acceso a la justicia civil en el ámbito de la UE que encuentran los perjudicados por daños ambientales transnacionales, incluyendo también referencias a la regulación en terceros países. Así, se consideran las implicaciones que tiene para el proceso civil -de esencia y tradición individualista- la especial naturaleza de los daños ambientales, con una pluralidad de intereses afectados de distinta índole y, generalmente, con multitud de perjudicados. En concreto, este análisis se centra en el estudio de la legitimación y de las acciones colectivas cuya insuficiente regulación impide o dificulta el acceso a la justicia, con la consecuente falta de reparación de los daños -individuales y sociales-. En este respecto, la presente monografía pretende ser un instrumento útil en el camino a lograr soluciones jurídicas más justas y eficientes. Laura García Álvarez es Licenciada en Derecho (2011) y en Administración y Dirección de Empresas (2011) por la Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Sevilla). En el año 2012 finalizó el Máster Oficial de Cooperación Internacional al Desarrollo en la Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Madrid, y obtuvo una beca FPU del Ministerio de Educación para realizar el Doctorado. En 2015 defendió en la Universidad Pablo de Olavide su Tesis Doctoral sobre el acceso a la justicia en la UE en daños ambientales causados por grupos transnacionales de sociedades, recibiendo la calificación de Sobresaliente Cum Laude. Ha realizado estancias de investigación en el Institut Suisse de Droit Comparé (Lausana), en el Centro de Ética y Reflexión Social de la Universidad Alberto Hurtado (Santiago de Chile) y, en el presente año, en el centro de UNIDROIT (Roma). En la actualidad es becaria en la Universidad Pablo de Olavide, desarrollando tareas docentes y de investigación en el área de Derecho internacional privado.

Its demise is due to the «alchemical» destruction of the world's resources, thought of, theologically legitimized and fetishized as «creation». This violence is not recognized. Elites have, instead, begun with a new «military alchemy», treating the whole Planet as weapon of mass destruction. Hence, the «Planetary Movement for Mother Earth».
