Book excerpt: Dancing Through the Storm is a true story of two children who grew up sharing their darkest secrets and hardest moments with one another. They both experienced similar experiences, which caused them to be inseparable. Full of defiance, Elnora and Frank began to attend the same high school, giving them a platform to feel confident, important and valued. With neither having a good reputation, they grew apart and journeyed down two different paths. Being a troubled teen was Frank's last worry. Being a boisterous young lady became Elnora's escape. After being apart after 31 years, they decided to rekindle the spark they once shared. However, things didn't turn out the way they anticipated. Drugs, abuse, and deception became their new relationship concerns. Three years of trying to reconcile coupled with three years of on-again, off-again situations didn't turn out to be the best thing for a queen like Elnora. As you read Dancing Through the Storm, you'll understand how being true to yourself is better than being true to someone else. Having a history with someone doesn't mean you'll have a beautiful future. Deception comes in all forms, so always trust God's Word and His promise. Even when you're heartbroken and hurt, continue to dance because God will deliver.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the bestselling social commentator and cultural historian comes Barbara Ehrenreich's fascinating exploration of one of humanity's oldest traditions: the celebration of communal joy In the acclaimed Blood Rites, Barbara Ehrenreich delved into the origins of our species' attraction to war. Here, she explores the opposite impulse, one that has been so effectively suppressed that we lack even a term for it: the desire for collective joy, historically expressed in ecstatic revels of feasting, costuming, and dancing. Ehrenreich uncovers the origins of communal celebration in human biology and culture. Although sixteenth-century Europeans viewed mass festivities as foreign and "savage," Ehrenreich shows that they were indigenous to the West, from the ancient Greeks' worship of Dionysus to the medieval practice of Christianity as a "danced religion." Ultimately, church officials drove the festivities into the streets, the prelude to widespread reformation: Protestants criminalized carnival, Wahhabist Muslims battled ecstatic Sufism, European colonizers wiped out native dance rites. The elites' fear that such gatherings would undermine social hierarchies was justified: the festive tradition inspired French revolutionary crowds and uprisings from the Caribbean to the American plains. Yet outbreaks of group revelry persist, as Ehrenreich shows, pointing to the 1960s rock-and-roll rebellion and the more recent "carnivalization" of sports. Original, exhilarating, and deeply optimistic, Dancing in the Streets concludes that we are innately social beings, impelled to share our joy and therefore able to envision, even create, a more peaceable future. "Fascinating . . . An admirably lucid, level-headed history of outbreaks of joy from Dionysus to the Grateful Dead."—Terry Eagleton, The Nation

Book excerpt: Book Description Praise Dancing In The Rain In The Midst Of My Lifes Storm, (Little Things Makes A Big Difference) is intended to be an easy and gentle read, yet strongly effective. To you that read my book, I resign my liberty and I tell you my secrets. I will share with you the little things in my life that made a big difference. I am sharing my secrets with you and it is my sincere hope that you will tell someone. There have always been a certain feeling of power attached to the keeping of my secrets along with reciprocal bonds between my secrecy and emotions. Keeping my secrets made me an individual and now telling my secrets voluntarily forges a link with others and helps me become a better person. What you are about to read are secrets that I have jotted down in a journal, on sticky note or just carried around in my heart and head. My secret speaks of my hopes, dreams, love, gratitude and great passion for life. I share the stories of my lifes storms, my abilities over my disabilities, victory over defeat, advantages over disadvantages, and my desire to live a well live life over an unlived death. I am truly grateful and blessed from all the small things that made the big difference in my life. It is the experiences and learned lessons from the small things that I have learned how to praise dance in the rain until I can soar above my lifes storms. The little things are enormously significant. Each time I experience something I write it down in my journal and I ask myself two questions; What have I learned from it, and how can I use what I have learned to immediately improve my life? The content of this book is also the result of a quickening, energy and desire that translated from my heart through my head and now into this book. It offers inspiration, as well as spiritual, emotional and personal empowerment. It speaks of daily occurrences in my life, real life situations with others, humor and scriptures. This book imparts a message that Life is full of ups and downs, trail and tribulations, and challenges and struggles, which are called the storms of life. These storms presents opportunities, new levels of growth, new possibilities, wisdom, inner strength as well as an invitation for lips and heart to sing, arms to be spread as wings for soaring and feet to dance a graceful dance throughout the storm with the part of life that is stronger than the problem being faced. Every storm has a season and can be a result of Gods divine will as well as his permissive will. The storms in our lives provides the environment in which God reveals himself and where He wants us to learn to trust Him by taking Him at His Word. God does not always send the storm; however he will allows us to go through them for growth. He wants us to dance in the rain and soar above our storms as eagles. The Bible declares in Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.(KJV). The eagle has long been a symbol of strength, power and majesty, they face storms fearlessly. They are of the few birds that do not fear or attempt to escape the storm. They simply use the storm to lift them higher, they adjust their wings feathers for maximum altitude and they are able to fly high above the storm. The eagles eyes are protected by a clear membrane that protects their vision, which allows them to see clearly as they fly at high speed and when they are in a storm. That is exactly what God wants our experiences in the storm to be. God wants us to learn to face storms with vision instead of emotion. He wants us to keep a clear vision and maintain the right perspective in our storms by letting our problems and challenges cause us to rise higher and higher. God wants us to envision victory over our storms. Eagles are constantly cleaning their feathers, pulling out any that are ruffled or damage

Book excerpt: There are times in all of our lives when we look to the sky and wonder if the dark clouds shadowing our lives will ever partwhen we wonder if well ever be warmed by the sunshine again. We may be challenged to overcome a single tribulation or a series of trials, but we all find ourselves facing and enduring heartache. Tracy Brooks has perhaps experienced more than her fair share of heartache, most notably experiencing the ultimate betrayal and abandonment of the dearest person in her life. Getting back on your feet can seem like an insurmountable task after being wounded so deeply, but Tracy realized there was nothing else she could do but move on and wait for the clouds to part. In this memoir, she seeks to reaffirm that storms of life really do pass and that the sun can shine again. She shares what encouragement can do for someone going through difficult times in their life and how those encouraging others through their journeys are blessed. She hopes to restore faith and reminds readers to pray through hard times. Brookss memoir shows that regardless of the adversity youre facing, faith can get you through. Hers is a story of finding peace among all the pieces.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The calamitous impacts of climate change that are beginning to be felt around the world today expose the inextricability of human and natural histories. Arguing for a more complex account of such calamities, Kate Rigby examines a variety of past disasters, from the Black Death of the Middle Ages to the mega-hurricanes of the twenty-first century, revealing the dynamic interaction of diverse human and nonhuman factors in their causation, unfolding, and aftermath. Focusing on the link between the ways disasters are framed by the stories told about them and how people tend to respond to them in practice, Rigby also shows how works of narrative fiction invite ethical reflection on human relations with one another, with our often unruly earthly environs, and with other species in the face of eco-catastrophe. In its investigation of an array of authors from the Romantic period to the present—including Heinrich von Kleist, Mary Shelley, Theodor Storm, Colin Thiele, and Alexis Wright— Dancing with Disaster demonstrates the importance of the environmental humanities in the development of more creative, compassionate, ecologically oriented, and socially just responses to the perils and possibilities of the Anthropocene. God gives us opportunities in the most unusual circumstances. We must follow in the dark, we must follow not knowing why, we must follow with absolute faith. We must be aware, mindful, steady, like a pack mule. We all are battling adversity. Her encouraging approach to honoring herself, her God, and others can also help you.
