Book Synopsis Damage Progression in Graphite-epoxy by a Deplying Technique by : S. M. Freeman
Download or read book Damage Progression in Graphite-epoxy by a Deplying Technique written by S. M. Freeman and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open hole and mechanically fastened joint specimens employing three different symmetric stacking sequences were used for this project. Replicates for each specimen type and stacking sequence were loaded to ultimate and four load levels below ultimate to produce specimens containing progressive amounts of damage. During loading of each specimen Acoustic Emissions (AE) were monitored as a function of load. Specimens from each of the four load levels were inspected for matrix cracking, delamination and fiber bundle fractures using penetrant enhanced X-ray radiography and the deply technique. The deply technique, a unique but destructive inspection method, was used to separate the graphite-epoxy composite into its individual laminae while maintaining the integrity of each lamina. With the application of a gold chloride penetrant before deplying, the internal matrix damage as well as fiber bundle fracture could be readily observed on the surface of the individual laminae. These damage observations were recorded on a Lamina Damage Characterization Chart for each specimen. These charts contain pictorial sketches, with fiber orientations shown, for each lamina of the specimen segment deplied. A summary of the inspection results including photomacrographs of typical observed damage along with examples of charted damage is presented in the main body of the report.

Download or read book Interlaminar Response of Composite Materials written by N.J. Pagano and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the topics of major importance toward understanding the most feared failure mode in composite laminates, namely delamination. There are few books at present that describe the phenomenon of composite laminate failure by delamination in such detail.Written by pioneers and principal researchers in various aspects of composite delamination, starting from basic principles to the most current research findings, the work provides a complete study of the theoretical and experimental aspects of composite delamination in one volume.

Book Synopsis Mechanics of Composite Materials by : Zvi Hashin
Download or read book Mechanics of Composite Materials written by Zvi Hashin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics of Composite Materials: Recent Advances covers the proceedings of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) Symposium on Mechanics of Composite Materials. The book reviews papers that emphasize fundamental mechanics, developments, and unresolved problems of the field. The text covers topics such as mechanical properties of composite materials; influence of microstructure on the thermoplastics and transport properties of particulate and short-fiber composites; and further applications of the systematic theory of materials with disordered constitution. The selection also explains the curved thermal crack growth in the interface of a unidirectional carbon-aluminum composite and energy release rates of various microcracks in short-fiber composites. The book will be of great interest to researchers and professionals whose line of work requires the understanding of the mechanics of composite materials.
Book Synopsis Optimisation of Composite Structures Design by : A Miravete
Download or read book Optimisation of Composite Structures Design written by A Miravete and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite materials have been used more and more during the last decade to lighten structures. But until now, there has been no clear way of establishing how to design properly optimised laminated composite plates with no reduction in strength. Most modern references lack adequate information for the designer wanting to tailor or synthesise a design. This exciting package offers a solution. It relates the theory of composite materials to real life and provides 'rules' for designing composites structures properly and in an optimum way.In the book, Professor Miravete demonstrates the optimisation of beams, plates and sandwich constructions in the designs of advanced composite materials. He also illustrates optimal material systems, fibre orientations and lay-up through functions of geometry, load type and boundary conditions. The associates software, on two disks, will enableusers to adapt the information to their own requirements and is very user-friendly with helpful manuals. This will be an essential package for designers and engineers in a wide range of areas, from aeronautics to automotive andmarine as well as general industry.Chapter 1 provides a general background on composite materials.Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5 are concerned with constant thickness composite structures, and provide a survey of various design methodologies of shells, plates and sandwich constructions.Chapters 6, 7, 8 and 9 examine variable thickness composite structures, and consider beams, plates and sandwiches. - A completemanual for anyone concerned with designing composite structures - Includes book and used-friendly software - Can be easily applied to any area - aeronautics, automotive, marine or general industry
Book Synopsis Special Fastener Development for Composite Structure by : V. Cole
Download or read book Special Fastener Development for Composite Structure written by V. Cole and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four basic problems with fasteners for composites are identified: galvanic corrosion, galling, installation damage, and low pull-through strength. Several other problems with joint design are also identified. Eleven special fastener systems for use in composites are described: bigfoot, semi-tubular rivet, cherry-buck rivet, stress wave rivet, Eddie bolt, K-lobe, sleeve, bolt, composite, self-tapping screw, and hollow. Industry fastener usage survey results are shown indicating that flush, low-load transfer, composite-to-composite joints are prevalent in current composite structure. The rationale for selecting the flush head configuration as the modification considered is presented. Test results indicate that 100 degree tension countersink is the best for sheet thicknesses in excess of the head height.
