This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popular author James W. Moore recalls how several years ago, while delivering the sermon at his church one Sunday morning, he had told a moving story about a boy and his dog. The author’s then-five-year-old son, Jeff, was fascinated by the story, but feeling a bit uncertain about some of the details of it, during the family’s car ride home from church, Jeff asked his father, “Daddy, is that story true, or were you just preaching?” Highly amused by Jeff’s question, Jim Moore went on to explain to his young son that there are two kinds of stories: TRUE stories, stories that happened factually in history; and TRUTH stories, stories like Jesus’ parables, which are shared to underscore a dramatic truth in life. The several short chapters and stories in this book are designed to highlight such life-truths, with chapter titles such as “Go out Singing,” “Roadblocks,” “Should I Forgive?” “One Step at a Time,” “Who’s in Control Here?” “What Can One Person Do?” “Tell Me, Please, How to Be Happy,” “Why not You?” “Keep on Keeping On,” “Jesus: The Message and the Messenger,” “The Importance of Uniqueness,” and others. This book contains a discussion guide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Acts chapter 22 the Apostle Paul uses his political status as a Roman citizen to avoid being flogged. Today, pastors all across America will admit that we are now a Post Christian nation and even that the “soft” persecution becoming increasingly rampant every day bodes physical and violent persecution on the horizon, but they fail to do anything about it because all the cultural ills have been tossed into the political arena and everyone knows churches can’t talk about it if it’s political. This book dispels that lie and encourages Christians to overwhelm the gates of hell by using the political process to our advantage.

Book excerpt: No one is able to keep all of the laws of the Old Testament - all of the time, not even the holy men of the Old Testament - Moses, King David and others. Jesus himself said that even if you only look at a woman lustfully you have already committed adultery in your heart. Priests and those in leadership within the Church have often been guilty of misusing the laws of Moses by teaching and demanding strict, literal or even excessive conformity to the Old Testament Law. Such practice puts one under the law, and even places the law above the gospel. In his letter to the Galatians Paul teaches that to be a Christian you do not need to be circumcised and that an over emphasis on keeping the laws, including keeping the Sabbath results in legalism and ultimately brings God's Wrath. The opposite of legalism is license - doing whatever you want whenever you want and that you are only responsible to yourself rather than a higher authority. This also brings God's wrath. In this book David Pawson explains how through Christ's death and resurrection, we have been released from the legalism of the Old Testament Laws (which no one is able to keep all of the time), not to do the opposite which will result in sin by doing whatever we please, whenever we want, but through Christ we have been given true liberty ...the liberty to choose not to sin, by walking in the Spirit.

Book excerpt: Drawing on Scripture and his own stories, Moore explores how to embrace the New Testament theme that happiness is the by-product of being in "right" relationships, of being "at home" with God and with others. More than once, Jesus reminds us that the Great Commandment is to love God and to love other people. And that is what Matthew 6:33 is all about: "But seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness and everything else will fall into place for you." This book contains a discussion guide.

But, that’s what this book is about--how Christ breaks into our chaos and confusion and brings Christmas--how Bethlehem always happens in the midst of bedlam. This thematic Advent study for 2013 has five sessions--one for each Sunday of Advent and one for Christmas. Each session is related to the overall theme of the book and offers an alternative to the lectionary-based Scriptures for the Church seasons. This year's theme is Bethlehem or Bedlam? A reflection is also available at the end of each session.

Why does God allow suffering? And why does God seem to go silent when we're in pain? In Hope When Life Unravels, Dr. Adam Dooley, pastor and host of the daily radio broadcast A Better Way, searches for answers to our biggest questions about suffering as he shares his son Carson's story of battling leukemia. Adam speaks openly about the gut-wrenching struggle his family endured for three years of life-threatening illness and how God met them in their hours of need--even when it wasn't in the ways they wanted. And, along with his own story, Adam takes readers through the story of Job, unpacking insights about God's character, his love, and how we can stay connected to him even during seasons of pain. Both inspiring and comforting, Hope When Life Unravels invites us to draw closer to a God who is often active in our lives in times when we have trouble seeing him the most.

Thirty-five years ago his own church, the Brooklyn Tabernacle, was a struggling congregation of twenty. Then they began to pray ... God began to move ... street-hardened lives by the hundreds were changed by the love of Christ ... and today they are more than ten thousand strong. The story of what happened to this broken-down church in one of America's toughest neighborhoods points the way to new spiritual vitality in the church and in your own life. Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire shows what the Holy Spirit can do when believers get serious about prayer and the gospel. As this compelling book reveals, God moves in life-changing ways when we set aside our own agendas, take him at his word, and listen for his voice.

But still, an ordinary pastor-except that he ministered during the decades that brought French Canada from the brutal challenges of persecution and imprisonment for Baptist ministers to spectacular growth and revival in the 1970s. It is a story, and an era, that few in the English-speaking world know anything about. But through Tom Carson's journals and written prayers, and the narrative and historical background supplied by his son, readers will be given a firsthand account of not only this trying time in North American church history, but of one pastor's life and times, dreams and disappointments. With words that will ring true for every person who has devoted themselves to the Lord's work, this unique book serves to remind readers that though the sacrifices of serving God are great, the sweetness of living a faithful, obedient life is greater still.

Book excerpt: "An unforgettable journey through racism and faith across the generations. January 15, 1959-a day that changed one family forever. White supremacists kidnapped and severely beat rural Alabama preacher Israel Page, nearly killing him because he had sued a White townsman for injuries suffered in a car crash. After "they" "got Daddy," Israel Page's children began leaving the Jim Crow South, the event leaving an indelible mark on the family and its future. Decades later, the events of that day fueled journalist Sharon Tubbs's epic quest to learn who had "gotten" her mother's daddy and why. They Got Daddy follows Tubbs on her moving journey from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the back roads and rural churches of Alabama. A powerful revelation of the sustaining and redemptive power of faith and unflinching testimony to the deeply embedded effects of racism across the generations, it demonstrates how the search for the truth can offer a chance at true healing"--

Book excerpt: It’s a story you shouldn’t be reading, it’s a personal journey that was originally written by a father for only his daughter’s eyes. It’s an emotional story that shows how a father was brought to his lowest point in his life where he could see no return. But the father held on; his daughter was his vision, his daughter was what kept him going, and kept them both from harm’s way. It’s all about a fathers love and devotion to his daughter, in a world where he struggles to grasp how parents can play games in aid to gain for themselves, in a world where fathers at times are pushed aside and their voices ignored and unheard, just like a child’s, just like the life he lived. A father leaves his story for his daughter so she can understand in years to come, how he fought for her, how he gave up his life just so his daughter could be brought up in a normal way. It’s now a fathers turn to speak up, to show his daughter and maybe the world how and why they have an unbreakable bond, to show how this bond has been tested and pushed to its limits. This story is for every person, for every mum for every dad who has a child they love, it’s for every person who has a parent they love and cherish because this story will make you fall in love with how a father loves his daughter and how far he will go to make sure she is fine. It’s a story to show the world, nothing can beat the love of your child and nothing should, it’s a story he hopes will change the thinking of many people one day.
