Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cytodifferentiation and Macromolecular Synthesis focuses on research on biosynthesis, structure, and morphology of cells. The book first discusses cytodifferentiation and macromolecular synthesis and genetic control of protein structure. The relationship of amino acid substitutions to the genetic code; comparison of gene and protein alterations; and suppressor mutations are described. The text also looks at genetic repression, allosteric inhibition, and cellular differentiation; epigenetic control of protein synthesis in cells; quantitative studies of protein synthesis in embryonic tissues; and chromosomes and cytodifferentiation. The book also discusses the morphological and chemical differentiation of plastids. The effect of light on plastid development; structure of mature chloroplast; morphological changes in the development of proplastid to the chloroplast; and inheritable factors that control plastids are described. The text also focuses on the collagen system, mechanisms of elongation, and tissue interaction and metabolic responses. The book is a valuable reference for readers wanting to conduct research on the complex nature of cells.

Download or read book Principles and Practice of Fertility Preservation written by Jacques Donnez and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-02-03 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The specialty of fertility preservation offers patients with cancer, who are rendered infertile by chemo- and radiotherapy, the opportunity to realize their reproductive potential. This gold-standard publication defines the specialty. The full range of techniques and scientific concepts is covered in detail, and the author team includes many of the world's leading experts in the field. The book opens with introductions to fertility preservation in both cancer and non-cancer patients, followed by cancer biology, epidemiology and treatment, and reproductive biology and cryobiology. Subsequent sections cover fertility preservation strategies in males and females, including medical/surgical procedures, ART, cryopreservation and transplantation of both ovarian tissue and the whole ovary, and in-vitro follicle growth and maturation. Concluding chapters address future technologies, as well as ethical, legal and religious issues. Richly illustrated throughout, this is a key resource for all clinicians specializing in reproductive medicine, gynecology, oncology, hematology, endocrinology and infertility.

Book Synopsis Biological and Medical Research in Space by : David Moore
Download or read book Biological and Medical Research in Space written by David Moore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life Science studies in space were initially driven by the need to explore how man could survive spaceflight conditions; the effects of being launched un der high accelerations, exposed to weightlessness and radiation for different periods of time, and returned to Earth in safety. In order to substantiate the detailed knowledge of potentially adverse effects, many model experiments were launched using organisms which ranged from bacteria, plants, inverte brates, rodents and primates through to man. Although no immediate life threatening effects were found, these experiments can be considered today as the precursors to life science research in space. Many unexplained effects on these life forms were attributed to the condition of weightlessness. Most of them were poorly recorded, poorly published, or left simply with anecdotal information. Only with the advent of Skylab, and later Spacelab, did the idea emerge, and indeed the infrastructure permit, weightlessness to be considered as an ex tended tool for research into some fundamental mechanisms or processes as sociated with the effect of gravity on organisms at all levels. The initial hy pothesis to extrapolate from hypergravity through 1 x g to near 0 x g effects could no longer be retained, since many of the experiment results were seen to contradict the models or theories in the current textbooks of biology and physiology. The past decade has been dedicated primarily to exploratory research.
Download or read book Dental Caries written by Zhou Xuedong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a well-illustrated and comprehensive guide to the etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, clinical management and prevention of dental caries. Current challenging problems in the field are analyzed and the latest research findings, presented. After an introductory chapter on tooth development, the relationships of biofilm and saliva to dental caries and the significance of the balance between demineralization and remineralization for the development of carious lesions are discussed. Subsequent chapters address the state of the art in diagnosis and treatment, the implications of disease burden for prevention and the association between systemic diseases and dental caries. Dental Caries: Principles and Management is intended for dental school students, practicing dentists and researchers in dentistry.
