Book excerpt: How to spice up your leadership? That is what this book is all about. In 2021, Nienke decided to spice up her life and found the magical connection between Customer Experience, pilgrimage, and leadership. She walked 1,000 kilometers on the Via Francigena, a pilgrim's path in Italy. Her backpack was her only company, and she had good and bad days. Conquered rain, sun, hail and wild boar. No mountain was too high, no valley too low. She just kept walking with a smile on her face and often in her blue dress. Nienke walked from the Swiss border all the way down to Rome and finished on Saint Peter's Square on her 50th birthday, May 17th, 2022. Just as she had planned. She walked the path in 6 stages, as she had to run her CX business that year as well. She knows how to get things done, how to o from plan to delivery, and in this book she shares her stories. Sometimes funny, but always on point. She shares 50 insights in this book in a snackable way. Of course, you can read them all at once, or just a few at the time. Whichever way you like it! Enjoy reading this book, as it may help and inspire you to spice up your journey as a business leader, a CX leader, or maybe even as a leader in your personal life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in four parts, a lengthy poem which fits the usual style of many of the romantic poets, widely appriciated British poet Baron George Gordon Byron's 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage' was first published in 1810s. As the following lines in the poem are "To those who gaze on thee, what language could they speak?", it is an expression of the melancholy and disillusionment felt by a generation weary of the wars of the post-Revolutionary and Napoleonic eras.

Book excerpt: We are apt to forget how much people traveled in the Middle Ages. Not only merchants, friars, soldiers and official messengers, but crowds of pilgrims were a familiar sight on the roads of Western Europe. In this engaging work of history, Jonathan Sumption brings alive the traditions of pilgrimage prevalent in Europe from the beginning of Christianity to the end of the fifteenth century. Vividly describing such major destinations as Jerusalem, Rome, Santiago de Compostela and Canterbury, he examines both major figures -- popes, kings, queens, scholars, villains -- and the common people of their day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many in the Middle Ages, pilgrimages were seen to represent a clear risk of moral and religious perdition for women, and they were strongly discouraged from making them; this exhortation would have been universally disseminated and generally followed, except, of course, in the case of the virtuous ’extraordinary women’, such as saints and queens. Women and Pilgrimage in Medieval Galicia represents an analysis of the social history of women based on documentary sources and physical evidence, breaking away from literary and historiographical stereotypes, while at the same time contributing to a critical assessment of the myth that medieval women were kept hidden away from the world. As the chapters here show, women - and not only those ’extraordinary women’, but also women from other social strata - became pilgrims and travelled the paths that led from their homes to the most important Christian shrines, especially - although not exclusively - Jerusalem, Rome and Santiago de Compostela. It can be seen that medieval women were actively involved in this ritualistic expression of devotion, piety, sacrifice or penitence. This situation is thoroughly documented in this multidisciplinary book, with emphasis both on the pilgrimages abroad from Galicia and on the pilgrimages to the shrine of St James at Compostela.
