Book Synopsis Computational Aeroacoustics by : Christopher K. W. Tam
Download or read book Computational Aeroacoustics written by Christopher K. W. Tam and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-28 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational aeroacoustics (CAA) is a relatively new research area. CAA algorithms have developed rapidly and the methods have been applied in many areas of aeroacoustics. The objective of CAA is not simply to develop computational methods but also to use these methods to solve practical aeroacoustics problems and to perform numerical simulation of aeroacoustic phenomena. By analysing the simulation data, an investigator can determine noise generation mechanisms and sound propagation processes. This is both a textbook for graduate students and a reference for researchers in CAA and as such is self-contained. No prior knowledge of numerical methods for solving partial differential equations (PDEs) is needed, however, a general understanding of partial differential equations and basic numerical analysis is assumed. Exercises are included and are designed to be an integral part of the chapter content. In addition, sample computer programs are included to illustrate the implementation of the numerical algorithms.

Book Synopsis Direct and Large Eddy Simulation XIII by : Cristian Marchioli
Download or read book Direct and Large Eddy Simulation XIII written by Cristian Marchioli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-15 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the diverse and cutting-edge research presented at the 13th ERCOFTAC Workshop on Direct and Large Eddy Simulation. The first section of the book focuses on Aerodynamics/Aeroacoustics, comprising eight papers that delve into the intricate relationship between fluid flow and aerodynamic performance. The second section explores the dynamics of Bluff/Moving Bodies through four insightful papers. Bubbly Flows, the subject of the third section, is examined through four papers. Moving on, the fourth section is dedicated to Combustion and Reactive Flows, presenting two papers that focus on the complex dynamics of combustion processes and the interactions between fluids and reactive species. Convection and Heat/Mass Transfer are the central themes of the fifth section, which includes three papers. These contributions explore the fundamental aspects of heat and mass transfer in fluid flows, addressing topics such as convective heat transfer, natural convection, and mass transport phenomena. The sixth section covers Data Assimilation and Uncertainty Quantification, featuring two papers that highlight the importance of incorporating data into fluid dynamic models and quantifying uncertainties associated with these models. The subsequent sections encompass a wide range of topics, including Environmental and Industrial Applications, Flow Separation, LES Fundamentals and Modelling, Multiphase Flows, and Numerics and Methodology. These sections collectively present a total of 23 papers that explore different facets of fluid dynamics, contributing to the advancement of the field and its practical applications.
Book Synopsis Airfoil Aeroacoustics, LES and Acoustic Analogy Predictions by : William Roberto Wolf
Download or read book Airfoil Aeroacoustics, LES and Acoustic Analogy Predictions written by William Roberto Wolf and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of physics-based noise prediction tools for analysis of aerodynamic noise sources is of paramount importance since noise regulations have become more stringent. Direct simulation of aerodynamic noise remains prohibitively expensive for engineering problems because of the resolution requirements. Therefore, hybrid approaches that consist of predicting nearfield flow quantities by a suitable CFD simulation and farfield sound radiation by aeroacoustic integral methods are more attractive. In this work, we apply the fast multipole method (FMM) to accelerate the solution of boundary integral equation methods such as the boundary element method (BEM) and the Ffowcs Williams & Hawkings (FWH) acoustic analogy formulation. The FMM-BEM is implemented for the solution of acoustic scattering problems and the effects of non-uniform potential flows on acoustic scattering are investigated. The FMM-FWH is implemented for the solution of two and three-dimensional problems of sound propagation. The effects of flow convection and non-linear quadrupole sources are assessed through the study of sound generated by unsteady laminar flows. Finally, a hybrid methodology is applied for the investigation of airfoil noise. This study is important for the design of aerodynamic shapes such as wings and high-lift devices, as well as wind turbine blades, fans and propellers. The present investigation of airfoil self-noise generation and propagation concerns the broadband noise that arises from the interaction of turbulent boundary layers with the airfoil trailing edge and tonal noise that arises from vortex shedding generated by laminar boundary layers. Nearfield acoustic sources are computed using compressible large eddy simulation (LES) and acoustic predictions are performed by the FMM-FWH. Numerical simulations are conducted for a NACA0012 airfoil with tripped boundary layers and blunt rounded trailing edge at different Mach numbers and angles of incidence. The effects of non-linear quadrupole sources and convection are assessed. In order to validate the numerical solutions, flow simulation and acoustic prediction results are compared to experimental data available in the literature and excellent agreement is observed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of the Seventh Symposium on Hybrid RANS-LES Methods, which was held on September 17-19 in Berlin, Germany. The different chapters, written by leading experts, reports on the most recent developments in flow physics modelling, and gives a special emphasis to industrially relevant applications of hybrid RANS-LES methods and other turbulence-resolving modelling approaches. The book addresses academic researchers, graduate students, industrial engineers, as well as industrial R&D managers and consultants dealing with turbulence modelling, simulation and measurement, and with multidisciplinary applications of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), such as flow control, aero-acoustics, aero-elasticity and CFD-based multidisciplinary optimization. It discusses in particular advanced hybrid RANS-LES methods. Further topics include wall-modelled Large Eddy Simulation (WMLES) methods, embedded LES, Lattice-Bolzman methods and turbulence-resolving applications and a comparison of the LES methods with both hybrid RANS-LES and URANS methods. Overall, the book provides readers with a snapshot on the state-of-the-art in CFD and turbulence modelling, with a special focus to hybrid RANS-LES methods and their industrial applications.
