Book excerpt: Though the prophet Samuel has placed a curse on the house of Saul, life continues quite normally. So normally that Prince Jonathans waning hope of living a long life with his beloved wife, Sarah, begins to revive. When Sauls Captain, Abner, hires a lad to play his harp, hoping only that the kids music might soothe the kings worsening temperament, hardly anyone pays any attention. The childs face is ruddy from too much sun and wind, his hands smooth. His hair may look like a torch in the sunlight, but he is definitely not a warrior. Only God, the prophet, and the kid himself know the truth until the battle in the valley of Elah.

Book excerpt: Gary Thomas, pastor and bestselling author of Sacred Marriage, believes that one simple word can bring hope, light, and life into any marriage: Cherish. Most marriages survive by gritting teeth and holding on. But what if surviving marriage wasn't the goal? What if we aimed to thrive instead? In Cherish, Thomas teaches us that although there are a countless number of marriages consisting of two people just going through the motions, there are real ways this pattern can be reversed: when husbands and wives learn to cherish one another in their everyday actions and words. The way we treat something acknowledges whether we cherish it or hold it with indifference or contempt. To truly cherish something is to go out of our way to show it off, protect it, and honor it. We want others to see and recognize and affirm the value that we see. Thomas reminds us that in a world desperate for marriage redemption, the act of cherishing is needed now more than ever. Cherishing your spouse will elevate your marriage relationally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. You will set different goals for your relationship, and you'll see your marriage with fresh eyes. Through personal stories, real-world examples, and timeless biblical truths, Thomas shares the tools you need to turn your marriage around, including: Using your mind to change your heart Sacrificing for your spouse Praying with intentionality Prioritizing your life partner Through the biblical act of cherishing, we can empower our spouses to become who they are called by God to be, and in the process to become more of who we are called to be, creating a marriage that feels more precious, more connected, and more satisfying. If you're ready to revolutionize your relationship, it's time to learn how to truly Cherish it.

Although he is handsome and protective and encourages me to paint, he is keeping secrets from me. Why is it rumored that he had other wives? Why do I grow so cold without his presence? Why can't I go into the east wing? And why are his eyes full of such pain? As I peek back my husband's secrets, the truth might kill me--or set us both free. This is a fairy tale retelling of Bluebeard for those who like an adorable happily ever after with a side of serious steaminess!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are the gentiles under the law in Paul? This question has three possible answers: (1) Paul understands that gentiles are not under the law because they do not have the law; (2) conversely, and although it appears to be ironic, Paul puts gentiles under the law even though he acknowledges that they do not have the law; or (3) he reveals his confusion concerning the relationship between the law and gentiles by saying gentiles are under the law in one place and then saying gentiles are without the law in another place. This book investigates the literature of Second Temple Judaism and the Greco-Roman world to uncover the possible background of Paul’s understanding of law and its relationship to the gentiles. This book then engages in exegetical studies on key texts of Paul relative to the law and gentiles by way of historical-grammatical research. The thesis of this book is that, although Paul acknowledges gentiles to be without the law (Rom 2:14) and Israel as having the law as her privilege (Rom 9:4), Paul paradoxically places gentiles along with Jews under the law which gentiles never possessed. For Paul, gentiles not having the law are under the law and its curse. Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross redeemed Jews and gentiles from the curse of law.
